yo gabba gabba
A few weeks ago i came across a link that no longer works for a painting of Jesus in a space suit. I sent it to Charlotte and Levi b/c the link was associated with a kids show i vaguely remember hearing one of them talking about. Yo Gabba Gabba. It turns out that i was right and its a kick ass show their kids watch.
I wikipediaed it and its a kids show done by the aquabats with awesome guests like the shins and elija wood. it rocks.
Still never having seen an actual show I was watching the soup and they had a clip of little kids dancing on this show and it looks awesome! I might try and tivo an episode.

Nougat
You know what the worst candy ever is?
Nougat.
Its terrible.
So yesterday I was at the vending machine at work caving into a week of looking at the new reeses product "whipps". Reese's is pretty much one of the tastiest treats ever so i try every variation they come out with. well this one was a swing and a miss.
Its a frickin nougat core, with a layer of peanut butter and a layer of chocolate. It was almost as if Someone had said "hey, our product is too tastey how can we make it worse? i know, we'll add nougat! lots of nougat!".
I hate you nougat

The Lemonheads....or Evan Dando et al
Clearly I went to another lemonheads show. This was maybe my millionth show of thiers (including dando solo shows. I was kinda suprised bill stevenson was actually touring with them which was better than the usual bring along whoever they can get.
Anyway The show wasnt the best I've ever seen them....or even close. The sound was TERRIBLE, it wasnt thier fault, I blame the Black Cat. Something was screwy, it started of semi ok, but by the end you could barely make out what he was singing....good thing i know every song :) Finally they ended the show and the encore was Evan by himself with just one simple guitar, so whatever was screwy before was now gone and he did a very crisp great version of outdoor type, a couple others including the crowd request of Frank Mills.
Evan then begins to play another song...stops...and says "go home people" and the show is over in true Dando style.

Dead Poets Society
If you know me you probably know that I am not what you might call "up on the movies"....sure I've seen most of the movies between 2000 to now, but any summer movies between 1991-2000 I'm missing, and any movie at all before then there is a good chance I havent seen.
I have begun trying to get caught up on them.
For starters I have been promised a list of movies I "have to see" and I guess i'll go through that and maybe watch some.
I also want to get better at actually watching the netflix movies I rent since my queue is 126 movies long, so last night I watched Dead Poets Society. It was really good. who knew? I was especially surprised at how young ethan hawke started acting, and he was really good. I think i would have liked the movie a lot more if i had seen it in 1989 when it came out since there have been a lot of movies that copied it since then so it wasnt as original for my viewing pleasure. oh well, still great.

Monday morning
This weekend was pretty action packed with holiday parites, dancing, and more...but the part I'll blog about is a movie I saw on friday night.
We went to see Juno. I was initially drawn in by the trailors since it seemed kinda funny plus the cast seemed awesome. I have a little crush on Michael Cera, plus Jason Bateman is quite the hottie. Plus I'm currently making my way through the second season of arrested development which is awesome.
The rest of the cast was pretty good too with Allison Janey and Jennifer Garner and whoever that little girl that played Juno was.
The movie itself was hillarious yet serious at the same time. I dont want to ruin anything since i'm sure none of you have seen it yet, but it was awesome and you should definately go see it. like tonight. right now. go!

strikes
Yesterday I was playing hookey from work and walking around the foggy bottom area when I came across a strike. It was weird because it didnt appear to be placed infront of anything it related to. It was some sort of carpenters union I think...at least thats what the signs implied. They were chanting something but I have no idea what they were saying because it was so muffled.
If i were to strike against anything I think i'd do a better job. I'd have clearer signs, better chants, and i'd pick a less random location. so if anyone needs help striking i'm your girl....unless you are part of the writers union, then I say get back to work, i need my TV.

weird and pointless buisneses
I was in chesapeak bagel for lunch yesterday when I saw an ad for something totally pointless.
Its a service that takes your ipod that you already own, and takes your cds that you already own, and uploads the cds to the ipod for you and gives it back to you within 4 days. This seems dumb b/c then you wont have your itunes library on your computer. Someone at lunch pointed out that its a pain in the neck to upload 200 cds so maybe it would be a good use, but the company also charges 1.40 per cd so that would cost 280 dollars. what a waste.
i looked up the website when I got back and they havent built it yet (www.hodgepoddc.com) and then i looked up who owns the site and its some dude in virginia....so not only is he runing this company but he's trying to reach out as far as he can get. weird. I wonder if he has any customers

broken bed
I broke my bed.
oops.
Its kinda weird though b/c on all 4 corners there is a metal support with another metal dowel (4inches long) in it attached to a wheel. well somehow one of the dowels and wheel fell off without bending any metal on anything. I think its time for a bed frame, maybe that will add the support my bed needs

Lots of Latkes
So Last night I made my annual batch of latkes, however i made one giant mistake. I overestimated how many I had to make.
The recipe you see is very vague it calls for 20 potatoes and 10 eggs "some" flour etc. It doesn't say how many people this will feed or any details like that...so forgetting what a batch looked like i decided to make 1.5 batches.
thats 30 potatoes.
We started shredding them and before i knew it i had potato shreds in like every bowl i own all over my kitchen waiting to be fried. This was RIDICULOUS.
I ended up making less than half of what I prepared and still had plenty of leftovers.
Now I remember...last year I made half a recipe....ooops

Fun Weekend
This weekend I spent a lot of time celebrating Criss family events and it was Awesome. Thier new house is beautiful, but pretty far away. The family church was way closer so that was a bit easier the next day. As always I had a great time.
I may have permanently f'ed my work computer. I dis enabled cookies to be set b/c i realized what extent people could track what I did when i wasnt doing what I am supposed to (like right now with this blog)...but so many pages wont open in firefox with the cookies disabled (like this one which i am using ie right now).
I know what you think...just turn them back on right? well for some reason that doesnt fix it and its permanantly f'ed. guess i'll be using IE more.
Also on this, the second to last night of Hannukah I am leaving work early today and making Latkes! so if you want some feel free to give me a call and swing by tonight :)

The Source of Sickness
None of my friends or anyone i know are sick, so how did i get sick you might wonder? good question!
Well I went to subway in greenway shopping center like a week before I got sick...Every single person working behind the counter was sick that day.
They are literally the only sick people I have come into direct contact with in the past couple weeks.
stupid subway.

GW!
Last night we went to a GW basketball game. My first one of the season...and a lot of things seemed different.
First off the place was so empty...now granted we were playing university of maryland Eastern Shore, but still...back when i went there (i just wanted to say that) we use to come in mass to any game! And line up hours before the game just to get in.
Second The jumbotron, while it has good pictures, no longer pumps up a crowd...things I noticed missing were that they no longer put the lyrics to the fight song up, they dont hype three point shots or "and 1's" etc
Third, the band barely played any of their songs. I kept waiting for "Hey Baby" but it didnt happen.
Fourth, The cheerleaders/dance team barely peps up the crowd anymore.
Ok thats all I can think to complain about right now. But dont get me wrong, I had a ton of fun anyway :)

kashmir
My old Ring tone use to be Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. Great song. Great Ringtone. I recently tried to get that ring tone back, but att no longer offers it, and I think I just found out why.
Verizon now offers this whole led zeppelin package complete with Kashmir ringtone. Infact thats how they advertise it. Sounds like someone heard my phone ring and decided I was on to something.
I guess I'll just stay ahead of the curve with the next awesome ring tone...the office theme song :)

the accordian is the single most awesome instrument ever
1. It ALWAYS looks awesome
2. Its always fun to rock out while playing an accordian
3. It works with almost any type of music
Mewithoutyou had an accordian player of course. The same guy that played the accordian was totally hyper and crazy and awesome.
Thrice was a lot better than I thought they'd be. I liked them early on but they kinda lost me at vissaru or however you spell that. But they played a lot of thier more mellow stuff and of course my favorite stare at the sun.
Brand new was last and they were awesome, one of the best times i've seen them (and i've seen them a lot). The funniest part is that I enjoy looking around the crowd to see who the craziest fan is, and The one I happened to pick was none other than Evan Gwinn. Bleach blond hair, bandana, and hanging out with someone of the same style both moshing hard in the pit. It was awesome.
And now I have no voice

Bandana search
This week we took a lunch break to walk around the greenway shopping area to find my officemate some bandanas to roll up and wear beacuse "its time to look awesome".
We started by going to modells. They had none.
We continued on and my officemate began to clarify what type of bandana he wanted: One with a harley, or guitars on fire, or something manly like that.
So what was our next stop??? The pet store. To no surprise they did have bandanna's but they were a weird fabric, and wouldnt fit....but they did have harley bandanas.
We continued around to some girly store that sells like wigs and weaves and all that fun stuff. They had tons of bandana's in the window. in every color. Eric bought a few, and then I bought him the best one of all. An american Flag one with an eagle soaring over it. its awesome. he better wear it.
So yes, its easier for a dog to get a harley bandana than a person. go figure

Video Games
I think i need to upgrade my super nintendo system soon and i'm deciding between an xbox360 and a wii.
I think i'm leaning towards the Wii because I need Tony Hawk, and Guitar Hero, plus the sports package looks like fun.
On the other hand the xbox 360 lets you play fun group games like scene-it
The only thing is its like 250 to get a machine, but i really want to save up and get a giant flat screen tv :(
let me know if you have any input here that might help me decide

"We need more facial hair around here", or why work never gets boring
We all know my feeling on beards...bad news all around.
Anyway my officemate is constantly changing his, he came in today beard shaved with just a moustache and now he's trying to get our other co workers to follow his lead and just grow anything because as he says "we need more facial hair around here"...and so i dont feel left out they said i can wear dresses since thats what girls do----thanks.
Eric proclaimed that all great men in history wore moustaches and challenged us to think of a few....Jim and I pretty much only came up with terrible people in history...hitler, stalin, etc and in turn challenged him to come up with a positive great man in history with a moustache.
his answer?
The Village People.

The Wedding
So as I mentioned Puja and "the jeev" got married this weekend. From what I could tell they mixed some hindu and seik traditions since puja is one and the jeev is the other.
Anyway the whole weekend was a big party starting from when I landed on friday. We got bindis and henna friday night and watched a lot of beautiful dances and singing the families all did.
Sat was the big day, us bridesmaids and puja all got ready in her hotel room which was fun, the aunties were all so helpful when it came to pinning us into the saris since obviously i've never worn one before.
Then the jeev arrived on a horse...a white mare as his father corrected me. There was also a fire pit on the alter so that was cool.
The party was fun too b/c Puja's step mom is a star indian dance teacher in maryland so she attempted to teach us some stuff...we ended up looking ridiculous but it was a lot of fun.
I'll post pictures to flickr if you want to see any. Puja looked Gorgeous so I recomend checking out my pictures.

Go Navy!
This weekend a bunch of us went to Annapolis to see the NAVY northern Illinois game. Navy won, so that was awesome. It was my first college football game so it was quite the experience. I cant wait to go to more :)
Today I'm leaving work early to volunteer at food and friends' Slice of life and hand out holiday pies :) Should be fun, plus I bought an apple pie for myself :) so if anyone wants some apple pie tonight give me a call.
Oh and the patriots kicked the bill's ass' last night, and normally I try not to be an obnoxious boston fan, but its kinda funny b/c my boss is a bill's fan and he was pretty sure that when they lost to the pats it would be less of a difference than when the redskins lost....didnt happen.

strike?
I'm sure most of you are ready for this writter strike to be over right? I'm totally afraid that pretty soon they will stop airing new office or 30rock. now THAT would be a disaster.
Well today on the radio I heard another thing...now in solidarity to the TV writters bloggers are going on strike. This is terrible for 2 reasons
1. What am I going to do when i'm bored at work?
2. Does this mean that I should strike too? I mean this is a pretty legit blog ;) I think I'll hold off for now on striking in solidarity...lets just hope this doesnt make me a scab :(
I think I'll watch Newsies again tonight and brush up on what to do in a strike just in case.

World Series Trophy
Now that the season has come and gone and just about everyone hates Boston its time for the world series trophy to tour the country.
Well last night my cousin alerted me to the fact that it was going to be making a stop in the rayburn building. So after work last night we made a pit stop.
Someone else took a picture that i wanted to post, but of course at work I cant upload pictures, so just ask me if you want to see it. (maybe i'll post it from home tonight)
The trophy was AWESOME. its just as great as you'd imagine it to be. I just wish that it toured with some of the redsox players. now that would be something.

Entourage is full of LIES
Lies i tell ya!
So remember when turtle threw vince's party on the boat an paid for it by having it sponsored? including skyy vodka?
WELL for NYE laura and i were trying to figure out how to get the costs down (since its going to cost maybe 15,000 bucks). We looked up skyy vodka and they had 2 requirements. 1. they sponsor parties whose proceeds go to hiv/aids stuff, and also 2. we found out that they only donate to 501c3 (non profit organizations)...so yeah, back to the drawing board.

The Quartermaster and the Jewler's Daughter
This weekend we went to Gettysburg, and it was awesome! Basically everyone that i told thought it was totally weird to go there...except levi, he thought it was pretty cool. (At least thats how i'm gonna read that expression) Anyway, we stayed in this super cute bed and breakfast called the dobbins inn. They had a authentic type dinner in the dining area, and each room was named after a war general. We stayed in the "reynolds room" which I picked over the phone based on the descriptions the lady gave me of each room over the phone. Totally office beat farm style ;)
We saw all three days worth of battle (July 1,2,3) as well as the cemetery and Abe's address's location. I"m pretty much a Gettysburg expert now.
If you were wondering who my favorite war general was its gouverner k.warren. He was the Army Engineer so I feel like we have a lot in common.
We took something like 250 pictures, so i'll post those on my flickr site eventually :)

I Confess...
I watch Gossip Girl. I realize that the show is terrible, and highly trashy, but I started watching at the first episode, and cant seem to stop .
This week I was watching real time (not tivo) so I was forced to watch the credits at the beginning and realized that the show is produced by "joshua safran". Well I think thats cool. I have no idea who it is though.
Too bad The show probably wont make it past this season.

Interesting
What does my bat mitzvah, Leonardo Dicaprio's Birthday, and the End of World War I all have in common?
Answer: they all happened on November 11th (1995, 1974, and 1918).
Clearly I like to observe one of the first two...but this year a certain history major is being a stickler for world history and insists that only one important thing happened on that day. hmph. we are going to have to work on this ;)

voting
So I voted last night.
I left work early and used my vacation time. I feel like there should be a charge number for voting. anyway, it couldnt have been more difficult.
First my little voting card had two addresses on it, one major one with a phone number and everything, then one little one hidden in the corner under the bar code. I went to the big address first. Wrong place. Luckily they are only a block from each other.
So I walked to the right place, and I was all frustrated, and there is one lady standing out front and says "would you like a sample democrat's ballot"...Whatever. i'm so frusterated that i half heartedly take it and shove it in my pocket. I felt bad cuse she was standing in the cold and the only one there.
So I find my way to the voting room (which by signs looks like handicapped voting, but i guess it was voting for everyone) and I am THE ONLY one there besides people working. Two of them take my name, and a third shows me to the voting machine.
ok...GO!
I look down at the machine not knowing who was running for what or what anything meant, but fully prepared to vote for anyone that had a D next to their name. Well out of every category that I had to vote for guess how many people had a D next to thier names??? TWO.
But I have a sample democrat's ballot!!!
I pull it out of my pocket, and just copy exactly what they have highlighted.
DONE!
I'm never voting for a non presidential election again.

New Orleans: Weddings, Strip Clubs, and Casinos oh my
Went to New Orleans for Laurie and Will's Wedding. It was beautiful and super fancy, I was impressed just how many wine glasses were at my seat when I sat down :) Lots of dancing, and great food.
The night before the wedding we hit up bourbon street which was awesome. You might recall from my blogs in June that bourbon street has nothing but strong drinks and giant beers. Its awesome, we eventually found out way to a strip club that advertises "wash your own girl", and since our group was 3 girls and 4 boys we got out voted and had to go in. Everything was going fine till right before we were about to leave the oldest stripper i have ever seen in my entire life comes out. Swear she was like 40 or something. gross. The boys couldn't even look at the stage, it was hilarious.
After the wedding we hit up the casino (which was only across the street). By the end I was up six bucks. Awesome.
Anyway the wedding was great, the celebrations in New Orleans were awesome, and I'm sad to be back at work :(

Halloween
Happy Halloween!
I forgot to post the picture of my beautiful pumpkin thats already rotted and totally melted and been thrown out...but at one point it looked beautiful.
Last night I went to the 17th street high heel race. It was awesome as always. From years of experience I have the perfect place to stand and watch...but if you think i'm gonna blog about that you are crazy.
The outfits were awesome though. My friend justin was supposed to go dress up, but bailed last minute :( its ok its not like i havent seen him in drag before. My favorite set of costumes were the elaborate board game group :)
Also jim just sent me this link and i'm tempted to buy this shirt...most of the points on the back are true http://www.drunkenbleachers.com/wicked_insoxicated.html

Californication Season 1
Last night was the season finale for californication. I'm still hooked. I know a bunch of guys out there are disappointed that there isnt nearly as much nudity in the season as the pilot implied, but the rest of the show is pretty good. Plus David Duchovny is awesome. (a little flash back for the winsor girls huh?) Also whoever plays his love interest is gorgeous.
Season two is "coming soon" so I guess shotime defines its own seasons. whatever. i just hope its soon.
Anyway its probably not too hard to catch up so whenever it starts again i recomend jumping in.

Awesome weekend!
Hey, remember that time the red sox won the world series??? yeah, I do too. and it was AWESOME. Yesterday I spent 10 hours in union pub watching the pats kick ass 52-7 and then in a tight game the red sox pulled through and held onto their lead. I admit, i got nervous. I made myself feel sick, but I guess that just made it extra exciting when they won and the entire bar was filled with sox fans. I cannot put into words how excited I am.
Sat night We got all dressed up, I was wonder woman. Eventually I'll post pictures, but pretty much I looked exactly like Wonder Woman.
Friday night was an awesome. I havent written up a "bad attempt" in a while, but thats because we havent gotten any awesome ones in a while since its been a while since we had girls night. Anyway, we were at madhatter and Tristan and I went to the ladies room, and we come back and Laura and Kaite are sitting on the bench and this old man (like 80) is standing hunched over them with his arms around both of them telling them how they shouldnt be a wallflower and pretty girls like our group should be getting the guys. He leaves and we all chat for a while. Then he walks over to the group of coeds next to us and tells them all about us...then comes back to us and tells us that he's been talking about us. awesome. Then he sits back down at the bar and I get a text about going to another bar and i flash it around my group, he sees this and practically runs over. "Is that the guy? are you going to meet up with the boys now?" Yeah i say. "oh, I guess you arent going to be wallflowers like me"...goes back to the bar, pays his tab, and leaves.

Impulse Buy
I am a sucker for register candy. So yesterday I bought The new Ice Breakers "Pacs", its like the listerine strips that desolve in your mouth, but inside the desolvable thing is a packet of sugar, like pixi stixs.
Well I tried one , didnt think it was too bad, and then politely offered my officemate one. As I'm reading him the directions "place on tounge and let desolve. its really cool!" he starts screaming that its stuck on the roof of his mouth and this was the most terrible thing i've ever done to him.
He then asked for more.
We decided to call the hotline on the packaging for nutritional information and questions to ask what the thing that melts in your mouth is made out of...make sure its not carcinogenic or anything.
1-800-468-1714
When we pressed the button to get nutritional information a recorded lady who sounds like she had been a smoker for 40 years says "for nutritional information please visit our website www.hersheys.com"....SERIOUSLY? why couldnt they just print that on the candy instead of sending us on a wild goose chase!
My officemate still has a layer of orange goo stuck to the roof of his mouth.

World Series
Did anyone else watch the game last night?
John Williams arranged and conducted the National Anthem. That was super cool, and I was beyond jealous that my dad got to see him live!
Then I got giddy. My boys that I've watched all season, my team that i've watched all my life, is in the world series. THE WORLD SERIES. I'm just excited they are there.
I realize we were there three years ago. And that was AMAZING, but this time is almost as exciting.
I heart Josh, Manny, Eric, Jon, Javier, Hideki, Daisuke, Johnathan, Curt, Kyle, Mike, Doug, Tek, Alex, Eric, Mike, Julio (sometimes), Dustin, Yooouk, Coco, J.D., Jacoby, Bobby, Manny, and Big Papi
13 to 1...Nice start boys, keep it up.

Sleepy Wednesday
I think I wake up entirely too early. My new rule is that if I wake up and the sun isnt up I'm gonna go back to bed. I dont care if that gets me to work late, i'll just stay late. Its un natural to wake up so early! the sun is here for a reason! That means I'm setting my alarm clock for no earlier than 7:28am.
According to the navy website here is the sunrise information for arlington va tomorrow morning:
Begin civil twilight 7:00 a.m.
Sunrise 7:28 a.m.
Sun transit 12:52 p.m.
Sunset 6:17 p.m.
End civil twilight 6:44 p.m.
Also tonight is Game 1 of the WORLD SERIES...If you know me at all you know i'm beyond excited. So if you need me tonight you can be sure to find me infront of a TV.

Lyrics
I wrote this a long time ago and never posted it, so here it is.
The other day my officemate came in all excited that he's discovered the best rock song ever lyric wise. You see he was at the black crows show in bmore the night before since his uncle is in the band (he says he'll take me next time if i bring lots of friends to his next show--which i didnt do) and they did a cover of the fleetwood mac song "oh well". This song makes me laugh b/c it definately sums up in two versus the essence of guys. so here it is:
I cant help about the shape Im in
I cant sing, I aint pretty and my legs are thin
But dont ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
Oh well
Now, when I talked to God I knew hed understand
He said, stick by my side and Ill be your guiding hand
But dont ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
Oh well

baseball
I fell asleep last night to the red sox beating the Indians. Unfortunately I fell asleep before the end, and when I woke up my internet was down...so i had to drive in suspense to work to find out. that was a stressful drive. Looks like I have another stressfull night on sat and sunday. I really just want beckett to pitch in any remaining game...do you think he'd be up for that? I think a stud like him would totally do it.

Parking ticket
This morning I was walking to my car and found a four leaf clover, i was thinking this is going to be a good day.
I got to my car and found a parking ticket on the windshield.
Expired meter, 8:26AM
Well thats all true...but the thing is that the meter says 2 hour parking 9:30 am to 6pm so to the best of my knowledge I wasnt required to have any coins in my meter for an hour after I got the ticket.
You can bet i'm contesting that one.

dangerous dogs?
So you know how they have a sex offenders registry where you can find a list of all the sex offenders in your neighborhood? well it turns out there is also a dangerous dog registry.
I'm wondering what qualifies as a dangerous dog. Is it a dog that has killed someone before? Maybe just wounded or disfigured someone? Dont they put those dogs to sleep?
Does any state besides Virginia have this?
The good news is that there doesn't appear to be any dangerous dogs in my neighborhood.
Update: After writting this blog I watched the sarah silverman show and she had a skit where she licked a dog's butt to see what the big deal was and why they are always doing that, and someone saw her and turned her in. So she had to go door to door in her neighborhood declaring that sexually she was a threat to thier dogs. If only they had a sex predator for dogs registry....

Weekendness
This weekend was a lot of fun.
Starting with a great redsox game/ viewing party friday night (lets not talk about the sat night game).
Sat night was Paul and Amy's housewarming party. They have an awesome apt like a block from nolans area so we walked down to adams morgan after.
The most fun part of the weekend however was sunday we went apple picking. There were a surprising amount of apples left on the trees. I then made a very yummy apple pie with the pickings :)
And as far as fantasy football games go, i'm down 4 points in my game, but I still have Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer tonight, so hopefully I"ll be ok...If i win today I become first place in my league...my league that previously made fun of the girl playing with them and tried to get me to make lame trades with them.

In Rainbows
So I "bought" the new Radiohead CD "in rainbows". As many of you know Radiohead tried something new with this one...they released it themselves with no label simply through thier website...but here is the weird part---they let you pick your price, and anything goes.
Well I decided about 2 weeks before it came out that I was going to pay 5 bucks. Thats reasonable right? I mean i was mainly just supporting the method of distribution so that in the future more bands can do that too.
So I logged onto thier site and added it to my cart. How much do you want to pay? IN EUROS. so i googled conversion and figured if i paid 4 euros that was about what I wanted to pay, updated my order, and added it to the cart. Then i go to check out and it takes forever. finally i get to the checkout screen to enter my information and they have decided for me that I'm paying NOTHING. fine, i'm not complaining. I tried to be good and pay, but they just wont let me. oh well.
The CD is pretty good though. really interesting as usual, and very good for certain moods.

Airlines suck
So I finally booked all my upcoming flights around the country...boston, LA, and New Orleans and I've come to the conclusion that airlines enjoy screwing you in any way possible.
I waited an extra day to book my LA flight and the price went up 100 dollars, also the days i need to fly are of course the most expensive days possible.
To new orleans i had options, fly direct and pay a little too much, or pay still too much but transfer a million and two times. I chose to fly direct.
I just got my usair esaver email and checked out the rates and they have a "special" from Boston to Rhode Island for $89? Did they mean "special" as in the way you describe the kid who eats glue? I can get from DC to Boston for less! I actually didnt even know they had flights from boston to rhode island...why wouldnt you just drive? its an hour drive max between the airports.

Across the Universe
Last night we went to see Across the universe since the commercials and trailers had looked promising, plus anyone knows how much i love the Beatles, so how could this movie be bad? Answer: It cant. Its awesome. Go see it.
The actors and actresses all have amazing voices especially the main characters Jude and Lucy. Also all the scenes were beautifully shot and it was just fun to watch this whole thing. The one thing I should warn you is that it is actually a musical, like should be on Broadway musical. Some people evidently weren't prepared for this.
There were also great cameos which surprised me, including Bono! he was great.
So basically I cant wait till it comes out on dvd so I can buy it :)

Monday thats really a tuesday
Well there sure was a lot of sports this weekend. Redsox won all three of thier games and the yankees lost 3 of the 4 games they played. I couldnt be happier. Infact As of sunday night all FOUR boston teams had won thier games this weekend. Sometimes its great to be from boston :)
Also for my fourth time this season I won my game of fantasy football...four out of 5 games isnt too bad. I still have to find a way to beat my co worker who has won 5 for 5....I'm playing him this week so that should be interesting. Wish me luck.
Anyway I think i need a break from sports because I seriously cant sit through another game of anything for a little while.

Finally Friday
The date auction last night was pretty amusing. Jen and skins tickets went for 250 to some random dude, Katie and a private taping of Pardon the Interuption went for 250 to her boyfriend, and Laura and hoyas tickets went for 110 to Paul.
Mcfaddens wasnt exactly the best setting though and they were less than accommodating. But i think overall they raised something like 2000 dollars for So Others May Eat. so thats good.
Tonight its all about nolans 15 bucks all you can drink.
Thats really all i can process on this tired friday morning. wish me luck making it through the day.

Ringtones and Date auctions
Tonight I am going to the dc kickball date auction at mcfaddens. I'm not looking, but I figured i'd go support Jen and Laura who are both up for auction. Plus if someone nasty is bidding on them I guess I should counter bid.
Also, because I can I have been messing around with my ring tones. I use to have Led's Kashmire as my ringtone, but thats not an option anymore. SO for now I have Pink Floyd's wish you were here for the people i wish were here...so only a few people get that ring, and everyone else gets hanson's mmmbop b/c it made me laugh. I think i'll probably be forced to change that soon.

Tom Brady is a stud and my new goal is to be giselle
Tom Brady is a stud. Seriously...could you imagine being him right now? At age 30 3 superbowl rings decorating his hand, a star quarterback, dating giselle, has bridget moynahan as his baby's mama. Unfortunately he's a yankees fan though, lets just ignore that fact. Basically Every girl in this country wants to be with him and every guy wants to be him. Tell me thats not true. Basically I think they should make a commercial with him and some cute cuddly teddy bears promoting world peace and probably all the wars in the world will end instantaneously. he has THAT kind of power.
I think if i could be anyone right now I'd want to be Gisselle. Besides being a hot victoria's secret super model she is the ex girlfriend of leonardo dicaprio and curent girlfriend of tom brady. Life probably doesnt get any better than that.
Anyone else excited for the sox game tonight!

Might be a late night tonight...might not...your input please
Ok so I'm at work today...in a suit. I am working at the UMD job fair today which I love doing so thats cool. Its kinda fun to be the intimidating one behind the table. Dont worry, I fully realize that i'm not intimidating AT ALL and thats probably why they keep having me work at the job fair.
Its funny because right out of college i turned down a job to be a "booth babe" and just travel to things like this all the time. Looking back that might have been a lot of fun. Oh well, I've made it known that I like working at these so I think they will continue to ask me to come to them hopefully. So if you are at UMD today and want a job come find me :)
Tonight I'm trying to decide if i'm gonna make it a late night at santa fe. Eric is playing there tonight and I kinda said i'd go...then i found out they dont go on till 11 at night...its a tuesday and i'm old. we'll see. gotta go to the dr and get a shot first...so any of my old gw friends i'll be around campus later today if you want to get dinner or something--not that i dont drive through every day...so never mind, i guess today isnt special.

Pam Beesley and Me...why we are alike #532
In honor of the new season of the office.
As most of you have found out the office pretty much is true to life in most offices. My officemate jim and I decided a while back that we were like Pam and Jim (minus the sexual tension).
While watching season 3 on dvd the other night I found out yet another reason I'm like pam. We both dislike sports that have to do with a disc. We find this out when Jim is giving bad advice to andy about trying to hit on pam. Its pretty fun to watch, but i was forced to have a catch the other weekend and i was so incredibly bad.
First i wouldnt let us play anywhere people would watch me so after driving around we found a sketchy empty park except for a little kid flying a kite. Then we started tossing the frisbee back and forth...although it would be more like the frisbee would be tossed directly to me, i'd catch it, then while trying to throw it directly back i'd inadvertantly throw it to the farthest corner of the park. No matter how hard i tried the stupid disc always went a minimum of 50degrees to the right of where i was aiming.
Second, it hurts. I walked away with two broken nails, a bruised palm, a bruised arm, and probably a few other bruises on my body.
thats probably it for me playing frisbee in 2007....or ever ;)

Go away James Blunt
While we were in hawaii leslie and i would be driving around trying our hardest to find a radio station with partially decent music. We found one mostly listenable station at 99.5 where every half hour they'd give the news update entitled "Maui Nowi". It made us chuckle every time.
This was the only station it seemed on the entire island that didnt play local music or JC music...or even local JC music.
What this station did play between decent songs was endless amounts of Daughtry and lincoln park.
This is what i picture every time i hear that f'ing daughtry song:

No joke. Those guys did karaoke to it EVERY night in new orleans.
Anyway at one point leslie pointed out that these guys play lincoln park "like its thier job" to which i responded....um, they are dj's it IS thier job.
Early on in the trip we thought we were safe when this "retro" song came on the radio. It was terrible but we made it through. honestly we were happy to hear a change of pace, plus we figured we'd never hear it again. Well the next time we got in the car we heard it again. Thats weird. So i pulled out my trusty cell phone and ran the music ID program which is when we found out the terrible news...this was James Blunt singing 1973. TERRIBLE SONG. It seems that every time we got in the car they played it. It is played in Maui nearly as much as hey delilah is played in DC (which i've heard a record 4 times in one hour)
Anyway, i hope to never hear another james blunt song again.

The NBA is STALKING me
The other day Eric and I were planning our upcoming trip to New Orleans. He briefly considered trying to go to a hornets game while we were down there and noticed something creepy.
http://www.nba.com/hornets/schedule/
go to that page. does any team name show up yellow? Eric lives in philly and all the sixers games showed up yellow.
I clicked on the link and noticed that all the washington games show up yellow. Ok maybe it gets our location from our IP address and makes our area yellow...right?...WRONG.
I continued scrolling down and BOSTON was also yellow. the NBA not only knows where I live, but also what team I root for. CREEPY!
let me know if that page does anything for you.
P.S. THE OFFICE STARTS TONIGHT

Wickedly Delicious
So I am a sucker for branding, packaging, marketing...whatever. Every time m&m's re packages their stuff i have to buy it (and yes, i still have my un opened star wars m&m's)
Anyway I was at whole foods this week and found yogurt I had to have. The company is "Rachel's" and the slogan is "Wickedly Delicious"....yeah, that just about sums it up.
The flavors of this yogurt are weird though. Most were too weird to even buy, but I got the two most normal ones. Vanilla-Chai and Peach-Green Tea with Ginseng. I am about to try the peach this morning. I tried Vanilla earlier in the week and boy did it make me wired. talk about a way to start off the day. This one is supposed to be calming so we'll see!

Beltway Plaza
One of the worst "malls" i've ever been to has to be the Beltway Plaza. I almost wouldnt even consider it a mall, but I guess it is.
With the exception of Luvin' Time all the stores are pretty trashy.
(ok so there are one or two normal stores there like fye and radioshack). Overall The only reason I ever go there is to go to the target that is attached, or to go to 3 brothers. Today I was driving past to get to Chipolte (even though its not thursday) and I noticed the sign that i've passed a million times bragging about the stores inside. They call out 4 or 5 stores by name then add "over 100 other shops".....REALLY? is there space for 100 shops in there? No chance there are that many. Maybe i'll pick up a directory some times

Foo-esday
Its almost quitting time on monday and all I can think about is how when I wake up tomorrow morning there will be a new Foo Fighters CD waiting for me on itunes. I pre ordered it already too.
way excited.
I already have already downloaded the pretender like over a month ago and have been patiently awaiting the rest of the cd.
Seriously though, how can you not love them?
Monday morning randomness
Family guy season premier this week was awesome, total knock off of star wars, scene for scene. I suggest you try and download it and watch it. I think my favorite was when Chris (luke) is looking at the two suns and the music is playing in the background and all of a sudden he goes "ladies and gentlemen, John Williams and the london symphony orchestra" and the screen pans left to show the orchestra. Then when the home gets attacked and the aunt and uncle are no more, he is more concerned about john williams b/c that meant we'd have to continue the episode with only danny elfman doing the music.
Also I pretty much rock at fantasy football. I'm 2-1 (the one was a tough loss, which involved me flying before the games so i couldnt change something that should have been changed). Anyway the first week i was the best in the league, and for this week i'm the second best. My co workers were saying i'd suck cuse i'm the girl in the league, but i'm showing them!
also my parents left, but not without taking me to citronelle first. thats prob the best dinner i've had in dc. mmmmm.

call me a safe bet, i'm betting i'm not
sometimes there are weird coincidences in my life. like this week i've mainly been listening to Brand New. A band that i like but hadnt listened to in a couple months, then yesterday I met mike at potbelly's in college park for lunch and there is a dude there playing guitar---only brand new songs...so then i get back in my car and want to hear more and i'm listening to the line "is this how a toy feels when its batteries run dry"...and just as it plays that line my ipod runs out of batteries. FREAKY.
Also last night was fun, my parents and sister are in town so they took me, peter, julie, and jordan to the melting pot! thats seriously one of the best restaurants ever. how can you go wrong with melted cheese and chocolate. seriously.
Today while i'm at work my family is on a segway tour, so if you are in dc and see some people on a segway that look like me feel free to say hi :)

Tommy
Ok so i've spent a good part of my life listening to and enjoying the rock opera that is The Who's Tommy, but i've never seen it. That is untill this week.
You see a couple months back I impulse bought it on ebay--you know how it is, you see something you like, make a bid for it not thinking you'll win, and end up winning and are forced to buy it. (Its ok because I now know I can just get super ebayer Levi to re sell it for me).
Anyway, i was pretty mocked for buying it and was even told it was terrible and i'd hate it. This didnt stop me, i was still determined to watch.
To my surprise it was AWESOME. i mean its a little corny and ridiculous, but really thats what makes it so great.
I've got one question though...how does playing pinball make him a millionaire? If so maybe i should start working on my pinball skills.
also i could do without the sally simpson chapter. that part was totally random and really went no where with the storyline.

so thats what they meant when they told me they had a penthouse suite....
So I took the super shuttle from Dulles to my apt since i got in at 6am which is way too early to make anyone come pick me up. I got to my place and the driver goes
"hey, I know this place! Penthouse has a unit in there. They send the centerfolds there for a little recuperation"
(pause)
"ummmm....are you a playmate?"

signage
At most beach access points there were all sorts of "you're gonna die" warnings....All of which we promptly ignored--well except these two:

Man of war huh??? well I think we all know what that really looks like...if they want to call it man of war fine by me...I guess it works

Sharp Oral? ok ok, i realize this sign was modified by some hawaiian punk who thought it was funny to scratch off the "c"...but at the same time its also a good warning.

Second star to the right and straight on till morning
Well I'm back from Beautiful Maui! It was amazing. I'll post more including photos etc later in the week. usually i dont have a problem with jet lag, but i'm having quite the time adjusting back this time :(
Jessica and Robbie's wedding was incredible. They couldnt have had a more beautiful setting, and the circle of love made for some great pictures.
Surfing was so much fun. I'm thinking about quitting my job and becoming a pro surfer. I think my next stop is the tow in competition this winter at Jaws.
Snorkling I can do without, but it was still cool to see the fish up close (but far enough away so they dont bite me! (i just like swimming in the waves really)
hiking was fun especially since there was a (very cold) fresh water pond at the top to jump in and then hike back in our swim suits.
Sunset atop a dormant volcano was pretty darn cool. Litterally. it was like 40 degrees! the ladies and children sat in the semi heated convertible while watching the stars but poor robbie and levi had to sit outside.
ummmm I'm sure there is a lot more so I'll blog more later :) keep checking back!

Hawaii Bound
After a lovely long weekend I am at work for one day, then ready to head out again for another extended vacation. Ten days in hawaii! Jessica, Robbie, Lindsay, and Ross are already there and me, Leslie, Charlotte, Levi, and family (and extended family) leave tomorrow!
I might be blogging from hawaii if anything awesome happens blog worthy since Leslie will have her laptop and I might start to miss blogging.
I am going to go check into my flight now. If you want to reach me you can still email or call while I'm away, just remember there is a 6 hour time difference :)
Also dont lose faith in my blog, I'll be back on the mainland by sept 17th so come back to my blog then :)

some day i get to smoke Leslie....litterally
Last night I was lured out to Buffalo Billiards for Leslie's last night in DC as a resident(I get an extra 2 weeks of her in Hawaii...are you all jealous?)
This one guy came over to talk to me Jen and Leslie, and boy did he have all the lines.
First, he clearly had an accent so Leslie asked him where he was from. His answer? Heaven.
Once he finally admitted to being from Germany he told us we had to visit Munich...for the beer...wait, no....for the Champagne and Strawberries out in the fields late at night under the stars with that special guy.
It became clear to him that his best chance at getting some was to focus his attention on Jen so they flirted a while, then he turned to me and said "where are you from?" Boston, I answered. "I knew it, I could tell by your accent" really? "yeah, its cute, just like your eyebrows".....so um evidently I have cute eyebrows.
Then Leslie Tilley and I got to talking about dying because Katie's littlest friend is doing the tough guy challenge which is 8 miles of manure and electricity (no joke) so she needs to find him a jewish cemetary. Leslie said she wanted to be cremated. This gave me some ideas. I asked her if I could smoke her. She didnt quite like the idea, but as the night progressed I think she came around to it...so now we gotta keep our fingers crossed that she dies first. wow thats morbid.
I think there were probably a couple other highlights from the night.

drink and dance and screw because there is nothing else to do
wow. thats all i have to say. wow.
Usually I make my office mate listen to his own music on his ipod and I listen to my own, but today we could both agree on the same thing. He brought in the best CD ever.
William Shatner and Ben Folds....together. And its awesome.

Supergood and random musings
I saw superbad last night. I had mixed feelings about this, it looked awesome from commercials, but i didnt want to get my hopes up. Doesnt matter anyway cuse it was hillarious! I highly recomend seeing this.
Also as you know I just had my alternator replaced on my car....well yesterday the check engine light went on and it violently shakes when i turn it on...so now i need to go back to have it fix---then buy a new car. I'm fed up with mine.
Also (i was slow on posting this) I finally finished reading harry potter. so anyone that wants to discuss can contact me :)
Also I got a new phone since my old phone proved to be less than waterproof. This is the first time i got a new phone and the store succesfully moved all my numbers for me so I didnt have to do anything! so none of you need to give me your number since I have it all! yay! I got the samsung sync and i'm on the fence about it.
I think thats all i've got.

my waterproof phone
Friday night for will's birthday, as i mentioned, there was a wedding crashers themed birthday party. It was a lot of fun...a little too fun. At one point i decided that one of the beds in that apt didnt get enough use and i should help out, but as I lay down I realized it was going to be a long night since the room started spinning immediately. In the morning I woke up and somehow was still drunk. I dont know how. Anyway there is a great bagel place near my apt and since i had a big sleepover party that night with chris and peter we all decided to walk to the bagel place...the heat hit me pretty hard...still drunk rachel got sick again...not good.
Anyway over the course of the morning I somehow got my phone dirty so smartly I decided to just stick it under the faucet and turn the water on. I washed the whole thing! I was totally amazed that I had a "waterproof phone" I called the guys in to see. They quickly confiscated the phone and turned it off and dried it off for me and threw me in the shower.
My phone pretty much still works amazingly, but every now and then (well actually frequently) my phone just turns off on its own :( oh well

Weeds
As you all know Weeds is one of the best shows ever. We are two episodes into the new season and it ends with The Thermal's song "so here's your future". Great song, Great band, Great show.
(dont worry leslie I'll watch it again with you later this weekend so you can see it too)

Happy Birthday Will, and Why I hate Pigeons
Happy Birthday Will.
Leslie and I thought about buying these tickets for him
(marc cohn nov 16th at ramshead tavern) ....Then we pictured it in our heads and decided against it.
We realized pretty fast that when walking in memphis came on will would probably sing louder than marc did and he'd eventually stop to see what was going on.
Instead we think we will get him tickets to this:
Thunder from Down Under!
Looking forward to tonight's Wedding Crasher theme'd birthday party!
Also My pigeons have grown up, wilmer and sheldon have flown away....at last! they were fucking slow learners. I thought they'd never leave. last week when I watched them jump off patio furniture and nose dive into the floor i was sure they'd never learn. One thing i'm angry at them for while learning was breaking my ash tray. So i'm gonna need a new one. This weekend will be the big clean off and re claim my balcony weekend! F'ing pigeons.

I'm back and back in action
First off Happy Birthday Jessica! only two weeks till we are all in hawaii for your wedding! cant wait.
I just returned from cape cod. It was pretty nice, but the coldest I remember the cape ever being. Dont worry that didnt stop us from going to the beach :)
Sat was Ashley and Tim's wedding which was BEAUTIFUL. it was outside infront of ocean edge and the reception was in the pavillion at ocean edge. For those of you that dont know what ocean edge is its a beautiful resort/golf club about a block from the summer camp I use to go to. I've probably spent 20 summers at ocean edge.
One day we went to nantucket. Really its just a beautiful place to shop. If you take the ferry over without a car (like we did) you really cant leave the main street, but thats ok!
We also visited the cape cod potato chip factory!!! Awesome, I know. Anyway if any of you have any questions about how chips are made feel free to ask me. I'm an expert.
So I guess I'm back in dc now. Its already much warmer, but I cant wait to leave again for Hawaii!

Friday at last!
For a short week this week sure has gone on a while. At noon today I get on a plane for boston with my brave travelers and then we will drive to Cape Cod for 5 days. So if you are missing my blog dont worry, it will return maybe next thursday or so.
Last night I watched the season premier of Weeds for the third time. What a great show! The season finale sure left a lot of things hanging so i've been waiting a long time for the premier and i wasnt disapointed. I cant wait till next monday!
I also watched (again) the series premier of Californication. Its pretty much a soft core porn. but with better plot. It looks like it might be promising so I'll give it another chance. the one weird thing is that one of the ladies david duchovny sleeps with is the littlest girl from the show The Nanny. So thats really weird and disconcerting. She also plays a 16 year old, but in real life she's 21. weird all around. oh well.

Cassablanca and Midgets
First off: Happy Birthday T-bone!
On monday I went to screen on the green again and saw cassablanca for the first time!
I was a little nervous to watch it and be the only person to hate it, but lucky for me it was really good. I think i'm gonna rent it and watch it on a tv so i dont get distracted (there was a meteor shower that distracted me outside).
IMDB told me this which i think is pretty funny: Because the film was made during WWII they were not allowed to film at an airport after dark for security reasons. Instead they used a sound stage with a small cardboard cutout airplane and forced perspective. To give the illusion that the plane was full-sized, they used little people to portray the crew preparing the plane for take-off.
Also I'm now obsessed with the song "as time goes by".
Lindsay had a great suggestion to go home and act out the movie ;) she certainly is one with creative ideas...anyway I guess it would have to be a threesome b/c you'd need someone to play lazlo too. just an idea.

D.P. Dough
So yesterday for lunch we went to DP Dough. My officemate eric I guess lives within walking distance from there and has been talking about this favorite since he started working here. so basically we had to give it a try.
at first i thought he was saying "deepy" dough. but he wasnt.
Then that led us to wonder what D.P. Stood for. here are some thoughts
*Double Penetration (that was ryan's idea...noone was surprised)
*Dirty (soaked in meat sauce) Please....this was eric's idea just b/c he likes to mess with me not eating meat
*Dog Parts (same reason as above)
Bottom line is its GREAT. One little trick i've learned is that a side of blue cheese sauce makes anything taste amazing! so if you are in the area and looking for food go there, get anything, and get a side of blue cheese. you wont be sorry.
PS...Happy VJ day...and to all of you in Rhode Island Enjoy your day off!

***** beads and a biblical connection
Sat night was girls night...for the most part...well sortof. Anyway I was chatting with Lindsay and her friend chris and I told Lindsay that I like her necklace to which she responds that her sister thinks they look like anal beads. I agreed and the three of us broke into a discussion about that.
Seconds later this guy leans over to lindsay and says he likes her necklace (clearly having heard our conversation). Chris asked him if he'd heard the convo and he said no. Then somehow he went on to tell us he was born in israel and a direct decendant of moses to which i responded that I am a direct decendent of rachel.
Chris and i break away leaving lindsay stranded. i told chris to go put his arm around her or something and rescue her but a few seconds later i hear lindsay say "hey i think there is some dancing going on inside that i need to be a part of" and she runs off. Slick lindsay :)

disaster strikes
Fun weekend, sucky monday. my car is dead, my phone is dead. I'll leave the bad attempt story for tomorrow.
Friday we went to the redsox orioles game. that was so much fun! even though we lost. it was leslie's first venture into redsox nation, and i think its fair to say she had a good time. we saw diasuke, gagne, and okijima pitch...but i am done with gange. we got back to my car and one head light was out. awesome.
Sat was fun b/c i watched a frisbee tournament all day, i got a little burnt but thats ok it was really fun to watch. one game was kinda close but the others they won by a lot and they got 1st place for the tournament. I took pictures on my manual camera so if they came out well maybe i'll post those.
after the game my car wouldnt turn back on. we tried to jump it. that didnt help. Turns out the water pump was stuck on so someone figured out how to disconnect it while charging up the battery and an hour later and bigger jumpers later the car finally turned on. I drove to vw to drop it off and turned off the car...unfortunately i forgot to roll up the windows...that sucked. luckily we finally got the windows to go up.
This mornign i went to call them and my phone was dead. not battery dead, but no network service.
Today sucks. I guess the one bright side is that i cant go to work today.

FRIDAY
So last night we went to see Labyrinth...and all I can say is WTF. I had never seen it before and was afraid it was going to be scary, but leslie saw it earlier in the week and everyone else was talking about it so i finally agreed to go.
I bet it wasnt quite as comedic when it first came out in 1986 though. People couldnt stop giggling any time david bowie came on with his fantastic cod piece.
The muppets were awesome. My favorite was the real dog and muppet dog they kept changing out. I forget its name but it was super cute.
Tonight is the red sox game so i'm pretty excited!

7 grains on a mission...
to my belly.
I have a new favorite cereal, the Kashi mountain mix. try it
I actually wish i had some this morning b/c i'm starving :( Is it lunch break yet? I have this problem where I get to work and am already ready for lunch. I spend my entire morning planning lunch, then once i've had lunch and gotten back to my desk I begin planning dinner. Do you think its a problem that my entire life revolves around food?

spice it up a bit
I wish I were friends with Ghostface Killah. That way it can be "Rachel's life Feat. Ghostface Killah"
Whoever is in charge of writing my obituary I'd like that added after cause of death: assassination (not murder). Leslie thinks she's all cool with the volcano death...but this obit totally trumps that!

Screen on the Green
Last night a bunch of us went to screen on the green to see "all the kings men" (the 1949 version). First off I went into it thinking we were going to see "all the presidents men"...we weren't. Second, I guess i haven't seen that many movies from the 40's, but the acting was TERRIBLE. I guess thats normal for movies in the 40's.
The story itself was pretty good just about a politician becoming corrupt. I guess I'll go watch the remake of this movie some time, but I'm not looking forward to it.
Next week we are watching Casablanca at screen on the green so I'm kinda looking forward to it, but at the same time nervous that I'll dislike "the greatest movie ever made".
Ryan (intern here for the summer, but student at university of the arts and theater major) informs me that casablanca was the first movie to transition from the bad acting melodrama to realistic acting that we are use to today. So i'll Let you know what I think next week.

"Bill is ok with Internet Sex"
Quite a busy weekend as usual. I'll just go through the highlights
1. Famous last words always kick you on your ass. Friday night pretty much ended with me, Leslie, and Jen going to the bar to order shots. They ask for Goldschlauger, which the bar was out of so Leslie goes "just give me something that will kick me on my ass"...well within 30 minutes all three of us were on our asses...in our own apartments...them praying to the porcelain gods and me taking a little nap in front of it.
2. Guitar Hero is the best game ever. And I am awesome at it. Paul, Nate, and Greg who live down the street peer pressured me into playing friday night and I'm sure glad they did. So now that paul is moving into his new love den and bringing guitar hero with him I'm gonna have to find new friends with the game...so speak up if you have it.
3. Andreea and her boyfriend scott came to visit! I havent seen them in like two years, but now that they've both graduated from law school and taken the bar they are both free! so that was fun, and we met up with Bill one of the nights for dinner which was cool, havent seen him in a while.

Friday at Last
I think i have middle finger arthritis. The middle finger on my right hand has been hurting at the joints lately so today I decided its gotta be middle finger arthritis. Its probably from a combination of flicking people off and scrolling the middle mouse button. Infact it would appear that i scroll the middle mouse button so much that there is no longer any traction on the wheel!!
At first i thought that maybe my finger kept slipping b/c my hands were clammy or something but then i realized that the wheel is totally shinny. i've created a frictionless environment! This sucks.
Workwise this has been a pretty sucky week...I'm actually supposed to be at the lab now but i'm still in my apt...opps...here's to not having an 11 hour day in the lab today! I'm gonna need some drinks after work today

weirdness at work
you know whats awkwardfest Two thousand and always? Romance at work. NEVER a good idea. I hate getting asked out by co workers because at first its all like ok well maybe they are just being friendly so i cant tell them i'm not interested then you realize they are asking you out more of a date setting and you have to nicely let them down since you will have to see them almost every day. AWKWARD.
As promised I posted pictures from brittany's wedding and bachelorette party! www.angelfire.com/theforce/res

Nobody puts Rachel in the corner: Brittany and Chris' wedding!!!

This weekend I went to phonicia (next to woodstock) NY for Brittany and Chris' wedding at last! It was so beautiful and lots of fun!
The wedding was at chris' weekend/summer home which was probably almost identical to the community they go to in dirty dancing. We stayed in some cabins down the street at a bhuddist retreat...although we clearly did not obey thier "quiet hours" rule when we yoinked the keg after the wedding ended and continued it at the cabin. A bus took us between the cabins and the reception, but i dont remember much about that...

Brittany and Chris have been together since they were like 15 or something and we always looked forward to when Chris visited us (well really brittany) at GW, noone was surprised when they decided to get married but we were all beyond excited.
It was fun seeing old gw friends and also finally meeting chris' frat brothers that we had all heard so much about! Also i met a porn star...i'm not sure yet which movies she was in, but you can be sure i'm gonna find out.
Sunday we stopped in woodstock for lunch and shopping, and it was everything I had imagined. The stores were all hippy tie dye-inscense shops, and there was even a peace protest going on! I kinda felt like that town had gotten left behind a couple decades, but that was pretty cool for an afternoon.

ooops
Soooo today just isnt gonna be one of those days I spend a lot of time at work. I just got here, and i'm leaving at 2:30
The reason I just got here is kinda weird. Now granted I didnt get a good head start and I knew i'd be here a little later than usual....but while I was driving to work (something i do 5 days a week) I spaced out...and missed like every turn possible. I ended up by "big D" liquor store, and "miss charlote's crab house" and "restaurant restaurant".....yeah, it was a good neighborhood. I quickly plugged in my gps and re directed my route to work (which basically meant turning around). SO i'm here now. and its gonna be an awesome day. I can tell.

Awesomeness
I got some pretty awesome presents and funny cards for my birthday! I have the most awesome friends, so thanks to everyone!
One thing that I got that I'd like to share with everyone is this totally not doctored picture that katie sweeney sent me.

on a side note i finally got leslie to agree with me that harry potter--at times--is hot!
its ok, he's 18 now so its legal.

poor Jasmine...I hate that bird and even I feel bad
so last week at work my dad sends me the following photo with the subject title "Jasmine is almost lunch"

Nice touch with the faded soft edges dad. Anyway I email my dad back to find out the story behind the photo and this is what I get:
Mom put Jasmines cage on the table in the back yard and she left for swimming. I had some phone calls. I hear this racket on the patio and see this big red tailed hawk trying to get into the cage. Jasmine is freaked. I drop the phone and grab run outside, shoo the bird away (maybe I should have just pretended I didn’t see the bird until ...) Any way I take Jasmine inside and go back on the phone. The hawk comes back looking for lunch, and I grab my Nikon and start shooting.

Weekend Festivities
I have the most awesome friends ever. Thanks to everyone that came out Friday night! I think the final count was somewhere in the 30's which makes me feel loved.
As Julie puts it drinks just kept appearing in my hand all night, it was great! Even the bartender and one of the managers bought me drinks!
I'll post pictures soon, and if you took any please send them to me :)
Sat was Jessica's Bridal shower out in Bowie at Charlotte's house. This was a lot of fun! We played some games led by Charlotte which turned out to be lots of fun!
afterwards leslie and I stayed at the house and levi and robbie returned with the kids and we all hung out for dinner and randomness. Turns out the craziest people go to rita's in bowie. We saw this one dude with a yellow car, license plate "bird8U" and a sticker of the road runner on his car. he gets out and we can see his shirt (tucked into his jean shorts as levi was amazed by) and the shirt is a spray paint picture of the road runner and the back reads "beep beep"...did i mention he was at least 40...i cant make this stuff up. we were laughing so hard that we had to walk away from the store.
my baby pigeons hatched. Basically the mom just sits on them all day, and when she flies away and you can see the babies they are pretty ugly and look dead, except i've noticed a change in size so they must be alive. These babies are the stuff horror movies are made of, so frickin ugly. So i guess I have 4 more weeks of them before they fly away.
Also I bought harry potter and am 100 pages in...i dont want to talk about it till i'm done reading it though.

mmmmm
So I was at burger king in cipriano square the other day and i noticed a sign for slush puppy brand in a local convenient store. I dont know if you've tried the slush puppy brand slush drink, but its basically amazing. Its consistency is very different from slushies or icees, and blue raspberry is the best flavor ever. I use to get them all the time on the cape when I was younger, but I havent seen any for sale in years.
well wed I had another miserable day in the lab, so I told myself if we finished in one day I'd treat myself to a slush puppy, and lucky for me the test went without any problems.
So after testing a co worker and I went to "Kwik food mart" in cippriano square. I found what they claim was the slush puppy area and was suprised to find that slush puppy has changed their product just slightly. The ratio of ice to sugar water now leans towards ice :(
One thing that I thought was funny (especially after my trip to the 7-11 kwik-e-mart) this store was probably the closest I've ever seen to what the real cartoon kwik-e-mart would be like. It was amazing, plus they have any frozen treat you could imagine ranging from birthday cake flavored ice cream to two foot long flavor ice. I am not kidding. this place is amazing and I'll definately go back.
Also tonight is the big party :) make sure you are there or you'll regret it. its gonna be fun :)

three things that dont relate to eachother
1. Last night I went out with some people for Joe's Birthday. I thought it was going to be awkward, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Turns out all his friends live in my neighborhood now! not that i'm gonna go hang out with them or anything, but still its cool.
2. I'm getting pretty excited about my upcoming birthday. I think i'm one of those people that at any age will just always love thier birthday. My birthday isnt till next week, but Anyway this friday we are having a bday party for me at Rocketbar in chinatown so feel free to stop by. If you read this blog chances are you are welcome to come :) I just got birthday presents in the mail from my parents too, a beautiful necklace and two new lenses for my camera! definately going on a photo safari this weekend.
3. One last thing from yesterday's blog. Outside dc9 was this homeless guy named Raymond. He was kinda harassing people a bit, asking for money. the usual. Although he was def on something. Anyway before the show started the police came to arrest him. It was kinda sad b/c he was trying to figure out how to fit his shopping cart into the police car :( poor guy. The bands dedicated some songs to him...thye are from out of town and not use to homeless people i guess. Also while My So Called Friend was playing someone tried to break into September twilight's van...I guess it was a converted police van or something and the people wanted to steal the siren.
DC9, Camp Friends, not enough sleep
Last night I went out to DC9 to see two of Matt's bands that are on tour together on the Vodka Mystery Tour. September Twillight, and My So Called Friends.
Matt lives a town over from me back home, plus we use to go to summer camp together. This show was a solo mission for me, but i knew matt so it was ok, plus I made friends when I got there.
September twillight were really good musicians. I havent decided how I feel about them as a whole band though. But the talent is there for sure. Matt was telling me that the bassist won the title of best bassist in Boston so I was looking around for a Bass guitar...I had a pretty hard time finding it till I realized that it was a six string bass guitar--pretty nifty.
My so called friends had some spunk to them, lots of chemistry and sounded really good. excpet thier first song which I thought was lame.
Matt is super good at picking bands that will make it years before they make it (finger 11 being a good example) In this case I say there is a pretty good chance you'll hear about my so called friends again.
As a result I am very tired today.

There is no I in threesome
How random is it that Bladensburg got a Kwik-e-mart? Clearly I went though. It was pretty good. Got some Krusty O's, Some buzz cola, some pink frosted donuts. The Krusty O's turned out to be fruit loops, the buzz cola was pepsi, but the pink frosted donuts were AWESOME. they smelled good, they tasted good, they dyed my mouth pink. yep i'd get them again. I'll probably go back to that Kwik-e-mart before they turn it back to a lame 7-11.
Sat I went with peter, mike, mike's roommate and his girlfriend to the Whitesox Orioles game. It was a sad loss on the sox's part. orioles just snuck up on them in the end.
Sunday we went to an awesome pool party at some guy from Jen's softball team's apt. For starters this kid seems to have everything in common with me based on the decoration in his apt. It was funny b/c we sat down and saw a fenway poster, a pink floyd poster, an entourage poster, and the office was playing on tv. then leslie goes to the bathroom and comes back saying "he even has a steve nash poster in the bathroom--man you two really do like the same stuff". Everywhere I turned there was yet another thing that i liked, like various star wars stuff or led zeppelin posters.
I'm kinda regretting my decision to take two weeks of meds instead of one day with an IV. if I had to make that decision again I'd choose the IV b/c the meds keep making me naseaous :( Only a few more days to go! cant wait!

I bought a new car...it turned out to be an alien robot...who knew
Last night I went and saw Transformers with a bunch of the guys from work. We went to duclaw first which was kinda funny, I guess people were a little pessimistic about the movie ;) shots of tequila help all movies right? but it turned out to be AWESOME. as Yaz said, it was toy porn. I thought the action was good, the story was good, and the script was funny. wins all around. I'll see it again :)
From the bad reviews i've heard I think they just took the movie too seriously, you have to just sorta laugh with it and not over think anything. some parts are kinda corny but its alright, its funny :)
Guys you'll like the movie b/c there are two really hot girls, and girls you'll like it cuse there is one really hot guy and one guy with a great personality.
For the first time in a million years I remembered to bring my GW id which never expires, and dispite it having a picture of me when i was 17, people still let me use it which is pretty cool.
Oh and we saw it at Muvico which I had heard about, but never been to. Its awesome. I'm totally going back there.

The Order of the Pheonix
Last night a bunch of us went to see the new Harry Potter movie. (me, tristan, kati, peter, and joe). I really enjoyed the movie. Unfortunately As I continued to think about the movie later in the night I started thinking about all the good scenes they had cut. mainly the scene in the hospital. If any of you see it without reading the book let me know if you were able to follow it at all, because I doubt you'll be able to.
Although I'm being a little negative the movie overall was really good. The special effects were good, and all the scenes were really beautiful. I wish I were at hogwarts instead of work today. The book comes out in a little over a week so I'll be there in no time :)
Day 4 of the meds....maybe today is the day I can stay through a full day of work. we'll see.

sickyl part II: the great Dre
Happy 7-11
I went to another dr last night, he kept me on the antibiotics but upped my pain killers....he said not to drive after taking these so that should be interesting getting to work....
Also Tim was in town last night so we stayed up watching the allstar game before going to bed. lately i love sleep. Anyway it was GREAT to see tim! next time I see him will be at his wedding! so exciting :) i've already booked that one :)
since i'm too sick to blog (lol yeah right) i'll just post some ims Dre sent me about my blog that made me laugh.
deckledgd: Ahem
deckledgd : I have been reading up on your blog
deckledgd : (1) i think couple's clubs are usually frequented by men and prostitutes
deckledgd : despite the fact there are signs that say "seriously, no prosititutes. seriously"
deckledgd : (2) the bird babies will start incessantly chirping soon...so have fun with that
deckledgd : (3) but maybe, if you're lucky something from nature will eat them.
deckledgd : (4) you must clear off the nest when the birds are hatched. birds are very lazy and will lay eggs with minimal rebuilding in old nests. you could have many, many tenants in that nest over the course of the summer if you dont watch out
deckledgd : (5) you totally posted Jem's guitar on your website
deckledgd : which is obviously truly truly truly outrageous
deckledgd : also, i also have a bunch of ridiculous things i really would like to get
deckledgd : like a moped!
deckledgd : sneakers with rollerskates in them!
deckledgd : leather pants so shiny my ass is a mirror!
deckledgd : um, i should get back to studying for the bar

sickly
Yesterday I left work around noon and spent the remainder of the day in an urgent care center for some urgent care :( The good news is I dont have mono or strep! yay! I'm getting really good at having blood drawn. Before last month i'd never had it taken from my arm, now i'm a pro.
Anyway I'm now on antibiotics and pain killers. Lets hope this makes me better :(
After getting some urgent care I slept a bunch then we went out to try and find the newest harry potter dvd to prepare for the new movie. Neither blockbuster nor hollywood video had it to rent or buy! crazy. sucks
Well i'm gonna attempt to make it through the day today...but chances are i'll leave early again :(

A blog inspired by Puja
Happy Birthday Puja!
Friday Puja emailed me to ask for my dimensions for the bridesmaids dress for her wedding. I guess her Aunt or someone is traveling to india to get the outfits made. I couldnt be more excited.
This is what puja tells me is the general idea of it (different colors):

In my excitement I showed Leslie and Tristan the outfit and we headed out to the pool on sat. We then embarked on one of our infamous missions to target and saw one or two people wearing similar outfits. Each time someone would remark something along the lines of "oooh maybe yours will look like that". We thought it was kinda strange that we saw so many, but didnt think much of it. What i found particularly weird after browsing the website puja sent me was that most of the outfits we saw looked more like "festival" outfits than every day stuff. Oh well maybe I missed the memo and that was now the cool thing to do.
Well sat night on my way back from capitol hill Leslie and I found ourselves infront of the convention center, face to face with maybe 50 people in the same type of clothing!
dont you think its A little coincidental that within a day of seeing what mine is going to look like there is an entire CONVENTION in town for that? Its too bad mine hasnt been made yet, otherwise I would have fit right in.
Side note: once mine is made and the wedding is over I fully intend to casually throw it into my wardrobe at least once a week.

sucky friday
I couldnt be happier that its almost the weekend. I know we got the 4th off but today and yesterday are sucky lab days. I've never wanted a test to end more.
on the bright side we are kicking off the weekend with a nats brewers baseball game. Will organized it, and its mostly his office plus me leslie and tristan...so it should be fun with a few awkward instances. yeah....that should be weird.
anyway i'm off to the lab.

weird
I hope you all had a good 4th. I'm not ready to be back at work...but here I am.
This is a follow up blog...remember that herb garden I planted months back? Well something is finally growing....no, its not herbs. its two baby pigeons. Yeah, thats right, a mom pigeon made a nest and laid 2 eggs in my herb garden. its on that part of my balcony that you cant really see b/c it hides behind the wall. So tuesday I go out to my balcony before heading out to Rocketbar so I know what the temperature is like and this piegon nearly attacks me before flying away. I turn to where it flew at me from and there is the nest and eggs. As of today the mom is back sitting on the eggs. I dont think i'll be going out on that balcony for a bit.
UPDATE:
I've named the mom pigeon "pidgie"...Suggestions for the two baby pigeons are welcome. Dad pigeon seems to be mia...typical
Update 2:
I looked up pigeon life cycle and it looks like these little suckers hatch within 17 days...then they will be here like 4 weeks...i dont know what I'm gonna do if they are noisy! also I have this fear that they will never go away. I WANT MY BALCONY BACK

Happy 4th
Happy Birthday America.
Also Happy Birthday John Waite. If I said "I aint missin you at all" I'd be lying. Every day I wake up and wish that you'd put out another cd. As a lot of you know my morning alarm clock is a CD player, I think I'm probably going to go out and buy the 1992 classic "The Essential John Waite" so you can gently wake me up each and every morning...honestly I dont know why I dont have it already.

More Atlantic City Thoughts
Things i forgot to post yesterday about atlantic city.
1. I wish instead of rickshaws up and down the boardwalk i wish they had giant motorized monopoly pieces. I definately would have blown my entire winnins to ride in a hat car or iron car. Other than that it was a little cool feeling like you are walking around the monopoly board.
2. We found an ad for Calligula's couples club. That amused me more than it should, but noone would go with me. They had "semi private rooms" and Mirrored dance floors.
3. It turns out i like/am amused by trump a whole lot more than I thought I was
4. Jordan got a royal flush which resulted in him getting comp cards at the trump bengal club...I wonder what it takes to get comped a room there.
Thats all I've got for now

Atlantic City
This weekend six of us went to Atlantic City, me, Tristan, Leslie, Mike, Ted, and Jordan. It was an awesome weekend.
Friday night we got there and immediately hit the tables and began drinking. Thats the nice thing about casinos...free drinks. So by 2am we were ready for a little dinner. The night ended with me hitting 41 bucks on penny slots. that was pretty sweet.
The next day was alternated by shopping beach and more casinos before dinner and the rest of the night in casinos. At one point tristan turned on Star Wars because she said she was trying to get in my pants and clearly that was the fastest route. its true.
My favorite moment was when leslie passed out before midnight and I did what any good friend would do...place things on her and take pictures (look for those soon) but she rallied and made it out to more casinos.
I'd say its fair to say fun was had by all. I probably missed some awesome story which i guess i'll post later. but i'm so tired right now that I just dont care.

do you want to sponsor me?
Leslie and I were discussing various ways we could make money, and the best plan is to figure out a way to get sponsored for this blog. I mean check it out, I blog every week day, thats not bad right? and if you sponsor me i'll find a way to throw your product into my daily blogs.
We discussed, and Leslie thinks that she should be sponsored by Dove or Ben's Chili bowl, and she suggested that I get sponsored by Trojan.
Those are good suggestions leslie, although I'd be ok with anyone sponsoring me as long as I could get some money and maybe some free stuff here and there. So if you are reading my blog and want to sponsor me that would be awesome. thanks.
