My internet is faster too, and the video conferencing works better. but the best part about fios? its NOT with comcast! goodbye jerks! Verizon people are so much nicer! Oh and they actually show up.

I was holding on to the new tv's box untill i saw my tv with hd tv and was sure i wanted to keep it, good news, this sucker is staying!

Flags of Our Fathers

Last night we watched flags of our fathers. A while ago i had seen letters from iwo jima and I had wanted to see the other half.

It was pretty good. The war scenes were hard to watch, and it was really depressing because you didnt have any strong war hero glorifying war. Instead you have these likeable men who dont want to be there, and dont want to be heros and are just forced to see the atrocity that is war. And the ones that die are the lucky ones because they dont have to live thier whole lives with this memory, and guilt.

I got really emotional watching this movie because i felt terrible for past and present soldiers having these horrible experiences. War sucks :(

The Wrong Night For The Red Sox

Peter and I went to Last night's redsox game at camden yards. Coincidentally chris sat a few sections away so that was cool. Other than that the game blew.

When I walked in orioles fans started yelling at me to go home. I ignored them. When we got to our seats there were more of the same. They were loud and obnoxious. Worse than that, the worst and stupidist redsox fans were sitting directly behind us. The old lady had never seen sunblock in her life, and the man wished he were a sports commentator so he tried to report the entire game, but didnt know what he was talking about. THEN two innings into the game they decided that although they were redsox fans they wanted the sox to either loose or the game to get rained out so they could go home. They sucked.

We lost, but coco made a nice over the wall play (didnt catch it though)

Oh well. Guess i'll have to wait for the sox to come back again

Wordle

So i'm obsessed with this new website. www.wordle.net You can input any text and modify it and make it kinda a cool picture. on my tumblr i posted ones i did with mr. roboto lyrics and one with the feed of this blog (http://rsoxrach.tumblr.com/) Ones I didnt post were the entire script of romeo and juliet, my resume, and Jessica's evite.

The way this works is it gets rid of common words like "the", then it counts how many times each word is used. The more frequently it is used the bigger it gets. I wasn't too surprised to see that my blog uses the word "like" very frequently. Oh well. Some habits you just cant kick. At least i'm not as bad as I was in middle school.

NYC Weekend Part 2

Saturday We woke up around noon and headed straight to brooklyn brewery. Some friends from home met us there (jlau and geller). They actually had skateboarded 12 miles that day, from 72nd street to the brooklyn bridge TWICE. Anyway, we took the brewery tour and then sat down in thier bar ordered pizza, and participated in the 6 beers for 20 dollars program. We tried almost all of thier varieties. My favorite was Pennant Ale (for the mets not the yankees).

After a brief nap and dinner we again met up with Jlau and Shields and Won at the bleeker street bar. it was ridiculously hot in there, so after michael phelps won his 8th gold medal i encouraged everyone to finnish thier last beer, close thier tabs, and move on to another bar.

We moved on to The Arrow where we met up with a displaced DCer (Ted and friends). What the hell is the deal with big buck hunter in every bar these days? We then moved on to some other bar whose name i didnt catch down by avenue A (clearly i sang the rent song in my head and also quietly to leslie).

At this point we decided it was time for mario kart so we stopped to pick up some beer and head to Won's apt. Did you know nyc sells beer at any hour? it was like 2am or something and we were able to purchase beer and gummy bears. awesome. Anyway we headed to Won's apt which was the most amazing apt i've seen. seriously. Full view of the NYC waterfront. beautiful at night.

After both leslie and i got our asses kicked at mario kart we decided it was time to call it a night.

I think i missed a lot of details from the night in this blog, but trust me, it was a fun night.

NYC Weekend part 1

So this weekend peter and I went different ways, he played a tournament in Siberia (wisconsin) and I headed to the Big Apple.

I'll split the post into 2 posts way too much happened over the weekend to write about everything.

First off I'd like to say that I am the greatest wing girl in the history of wing girls. I successfully helped TWO of my friends simultaneously on two separate floors of the bar!

Friday night we went to chelsea to meet up with some of my highschool friends. (emily, melissa, andreea and andreea's bf scott) Jlau and Geller came out too. It amused me greatly that we were in the meat packing district. Anyway at 1 am Leslie and I went to the rooftop to call tristan to wish her a happy birthday (since she was currently in central time so midnight to her). I dialed and it began ringing....before her voicemail came on two charming australian guys swooped in. I think my voicemail to tristan went something like "happy birthday, this is rachel, leslie would have said happy birthday too, but she's busy talking to a hot guy". Since they sounded like new zelanders I dubbed them Brett and Jermaine.

Anyway while i was wing girling and giving leslie space I pretended to text someone on my iphone when this guy came up to me with the bad attempt of the week

Guy: can I ask you a favor? can you show me your iphone artists a thru c?
Me: sure, but i havent fully uploaded all my songs yet since the phone is new
Guy: ok well A-C is lame what else do you have (scrolls through) Oooh Frank Sinatra?
Me: oh yeah, as time goes by, i'm on a casablanca kick since i recently saw it for the first time
Guy: Was it with your boyfriend
me: yeah
Guy: so this conversation is pretty much over isnt it?
Me: yeah

The bar closed and the Aussie guys put us in a limo and sent us home.

We got home and Leslie's roommate Laura gave us an impromptu concert at 4 am. She was soooo good. She gave me her demo cd and i'm totally obsessed with it. I cant wait for the full one to come out.

more tomorrow...

Tropic Thunder

Peter and I went to see tropic thunder last night with Jamie and Emily. We all liked the movie a lot. It was pretty funny.

The movie starts abruptly with a fake ad for booty sweat energy drink, and trailers. I didnt know what was going on till peter told me it was the movie.

I'll confess I had no idea what i was in for. I wasn't that excited and i hadn't read anything about it except how the mentally challenged people weren't pleased. I was only going because peter seemed excited. But I should have been excited because it was good.

Also there was a hilarious cameo, but i dont want to spoil it for you.

I probably wouldnt have cast Jack Black though. I mean i like him, but his character was kinda lame.

Also peter and i had pre bought our tickets at costco and saved like 3.50 per ticket! crazy!

Olympics again

Did any of you watch the Olympics last night? 1st Gymnastics is fun, but I really wanted the girls to beat china :( How old were those Chinese girls? They couldn't have been any older than 10. You could tell my the over use of sparkles and all the barrettes in their hair.

Also Michael Phelps is ridiculous! We watched it all, but the relay was just out of control. He gave the team such a start that they were like half a length ahead of anyone else the entire time. How can one athlete dominate a sport so much. Its just incredible to me.

Lastly I was looking on yahoo's olympic medal count page and it says "Official languages: (None)" Um, isnt English the official language? Well I double checked with wikipedia and it turns out they are right, we have no official language. So I guess people who criticize the non english speakers in this country dont have a whole lot to stand on on that front. who knew! Sure makes things more confusing though. I fell like they should work on making an official language.

50 inches of awesome

So yesterday Chris Emily and I rented a Zip Car (element) and got me a 50 inch plasma tv.

Basically its awesome.

Its funny because in the store we kept looking at it saying wow, who knew 50 inches was so small. So of course it didnt seem overwhelming at all and not at all too big for my little apartment. As you can imagine it looks ginormous in my place. It doesnt even fit into my entertainment unit. It doesnt look bad though. I'll get a new unit, and fios so I can get hdtv.

Anyone want to come over and watch tv with me? or play 50 inches of wii bowling ;)

I guess I'm getting into the Olympics

Leading up to the olympics I could care less about it. Its the summer olympics after all, and as far as olympic sports go I like Hockey and Figure skating, both winter sports. Oh and I guess I like gymnastics too.

Well friday night at Lindsay and Chris's awesome house warming party they had the games on in the background and the opening ceremonies were awesome!!! I didnt expect it at all. Maybe it was the sangria speaking, but I was impressed.

Then throughout the weekend any low key moment peter would turn on the olympics. I was getting fed up with how they were always showing qualifying swimming and none of the gymnastics.

Well sunday night I was all annoyed to be watching swimming, and it w as men's relay. I kinda wanted michael phelps to get another gold so i put up with it, when all of a sudden it got super interesting! That was the most exciting ending to any swimming race ever. I was pumped.

Football Season Begins Soon

A recent conversation with Leslie:

Leslie: college football season starts in 24 days!!!
share in my joy!!!
go colonials!
me: haha undefeated for life baby!

Well now its 22 days away. And the NFL preseason (for me) started last night. Now, we lost, and the whole game lacked a lot of energy, but it was still fun to order pizza and watch football. I look forward to a season of pizza, nachos, and 7 layer dip.

Check me out getting all excited for football. Disclaimer: I will only get excited for patriots games and occasionally redskins games and dont particularly want to watch just whoever is playing.

Pineapple Express

We went to see it last night, and I know most of you wont have seen it yet, so I wont include any spoilers. All I can say about this movie is that its hilarious! Also its very very violent, but not in a scary or gross way really for the most part. I think the best character was James Franco's Saul. He did a great job once I got past not seeing him as the Green Gobblin Jr. Did anyone else see it?

The Godfather

Last night Peter "made" me watch the Godfather since I have never seen it. There wasnt much forcing to do since i've always intended on seeing this movie, just never had a chance.

In my defense my tv in my living room is abnormally dark making it harder to watch movies, but here's how the movie went:

about 1.5 hours into the movie.....
Peter: How are you liking the movie so far?
Me: Pretty good, but i'm having a hard time following because all the guys look the same and I cant tell them apart.
Peter: You at least know who Al Pacino is though.
Me: What?! Al Pacino is in this movie?!?

To clarify I was able to follow the michael character without mixing him up, but it wasnt untill this point that i knew he was Al. besides ocean's 13 i've never seen a movie with him in it so its not totally strange i didnt recognize him.

Also I think James Caan was better in Elf. Fewer bullet holes.

Overall I liked it. We went to bed before finishing it and have like the last hour to watch tonight.

historic toilets and such

Saturday Peter and i went with Shields and Annie to fredricksburg VA. Once we hit the blue and grey highway we knew we were there. As you may recall we enjoy touring old battlefields so this cute little town was right up our alley.

We walked around town a little and then wandered over to the Chatham Mannor to see where the civil war hospital was. Clara Barton had played a big part at this hospital, which i enjoyed because i've always liked clara since i read a book about her in second grade.

In this house peter pointed out to me what I had thought was an ordinary leather chair. This chair had a mirror under it revealing its true identity (and the sign said so as well). It was a toilet. Then the sign then went on to said that George Washington, James Madison, Robert E Lee etc all "used this chair". hehehe i'm sooo mature

Garage Band

So with the new phone comes new ring tones. You may recall that once upon a time I had zeppelin's kashmir. Then I had the office theme song for most people, and europe's final count down, or pink floyd's wish you were here for a select few.

Well att doesnt seem to let you buy any of their ringtones for the iphone. It turns out that using Garage Band I can record my own song, either by my own musical talent or by importing a pre-existing song. Meaning any non encrypted real song.

So what did I do first? Clearly the most romantic song for one particular contact....Queen's Crazy little thing called love. I chose the 40 seconds

"it shakes all over like a jellyfish, i kinda like it, a crazy litle thing called love"

If you have any suggestions about what YOUR ringtone should be when you call me let me know.
