just for the record...

annie hall is not original. Since my last movie post multiple people have contacted me in various ways.

Try watching a little movie called "the way we were" its the 1973 version of annie hall(1977)

Stickyrice

Last night Jen and I met up on H street after work to try a new restaurant recommended to us by Sarah. I guess this is a chain she use to go to at VCU. The menu looked interesting so we thought we'd give it a try.

First off, the neighborhood in full daylight? sketchy!

The restaurant itself was really good! The food on the menu ranged from sushi to tots, so a little something for everyone. I fully enjoyed my meal which was interesting to say the least. I had peanut flavored noodles, and sushi with cream cheese and cucumbers wrapped in crushed wasaabi peas. delish. Anyway I recommend the restaurant. And all the wait staff was really nice.

I'm suddenly hungry again.

what do you do when you dont like what everyone else likes?

If you've been reading my blog then you know by now that I rarely follow main stream movie appreciations. Infact i'm so far the other way that i get made fun of a lot. I think the most obvious example from previous blogs was when I didnt like casino royale.

Well This weekend Peter and I realized that FYE (remember that store) has super sales on used movies. We are talking like 2 bucks for decent movies. On top of that its buy two get one free. So we combined forces and got a few. Well peter got 3 and I got 1. He got Annie Hall, MI3, and War of The Worlds. I got Music and Lyrics. (annie hall wasnt part of the deal for those of you doing the math)

I've seen MI3 before, and refused to see war of the worlds, so we sat down to watch Annie Hall. I was pretty excited to see this because i've heard such good things about it. Well, I hated it. Normally I hate woody allan movies so I dont know why i thought this would be different, but both Woody and Diane's characters grated on my nerves. And it wasnt romantic at all! i was told it was one of the greatest romantic comedies every. WTF, can someone tell me how its romantic??? It kind of reminded me of other movies i've seen and hated, like when harry met sally, and the way we were.

Peter felt kinda bad for making me watch a movie i disliked, so he agreed to sit through music and lyrics with me. It was so cute!!! I mean i can see how it was a terrible movie and super cheezey and bad etc. But you get to the end and i'm sitting there with a huge smile going "awwwwwwwww" as Hugh is singing to Drew. Now THATS a romantic comedy. Take a hike woody allen!

Iphone

Yeah, I'm late to work. so what? I'll be late tomorrow too! I went to TWO apple stores this morning. First i walked to the apple store in Clarendon just to get there at 8:10 and have all the phones sold out and a long line. Of course, with such a yuppie neighborhood it would be sold out. I went to starbucks on the way home to complete the yuppie image.

I then switched course and went to the apple store in the montgomry mall in bethesda. They had PLENTY. of course they needed me to switch around my plan and take 24 hours to process it. So i'll be stopping at that mall again on my way to work tomorrow. So dont expect a blog till about noon tomorrow either!

Weekend Footsteps

This was a pretty good weekend, but since i'm sure you are bored of hearing that i went to this bar, and got hit on by that guy etc I will focus on the most unusual part of the weekend. I walked TEN miles this weekend. I know, you are all shocked that I got out of my car and walked farther than to the metro stop. Of course it was broken up into three trips.

1. Saturday we went to Roosevelt island for a picknick lunch and a two or so mile walk. (this party i dont know exactly) It would have been 1.6 miles, but anytime we saw a sort of path that kinda looked walkable minus the log we had to climb over, peter thought it was a good idea to take that path. There was sooooooo much poison ivy that at one point we looked up and realized we were totally shaded by giant poison ivy leaves. Thank goodness I have no itches today. (pictures on my flickr site, but you have to ask for them)

2. After another fun night at the bars we decided it was a really nice night out and we'd attempt walking home and at some point we'd get in a cab and finnish the ride. Eventually, to my surprise, we made it all the way home! This one was 5 miles. I'll probably do that walk again sometimes, its a good way to get near the end of an evening.

3. Sunday morning we wanted to meet chris and annie for brunch, but annie was still sick so it was just us and chris. We walked to meet him at whitlows, but it wasnt over then, we continued on to the ballston mall to see stepbrothers without checking to make sure it was playing at that mall (it wasnt). that was 3 miles, we did NOT walk home.

Anyway I am going to try and walk more places now, its good for me, its good for the environment, and its fun. So we'll see what happens with that.

Happy Monday!

Finally

I fixed the link to the right (at last) for my tumblr.

Birthday Recap

I had the best birthday yesterday. It started off relaxing at the pool, then my new camera and I went to the national cathedral gardens. Then peter took me out to dinner and accompanied me to mama mia (which he was not thrilled about).

Mama mia was......terrible. absolutely awful. But I loved it anyway. The movie was still fun, but if you havent seen the stage performance, chances are you wont like the movie.

as peter says, whoever made this movie HATES movies. The actual editing blew, and they were a little over eager with the slow mo function. Oh look she's happy lets show it in slow motion! Oh, now she's sad...slow motion again.

They had some other super cheezy effects.

The crowd was rolling with laughter every time pierce brosnan attempted to sing, and on top of that they ADDED an extra song just for pierce! wtf. Did the director honestly thing he was that good that he should get one more?

Anyway I had a good time, but it was clear that not a single guy in the theater liked it, while all the girls were dancing along with the songs.

Jim Henson's Fantastic World

Leslie and I went to go see Jim Henson's Fantastic world at the Smithsonian's African Art Museum. Well technically its not in that museum, but they are all connected and we ended up exiting through that museum which I thought was funny.

The exhibit showed Jim's work as it progressed starting with his theater posters at the university of maryland, through his tv commercials, his lesser known movies, and on to his various muppet creations. They had his scratch work that you can tell he never intended to be put in museums because half of them had like coffee stains and stuff or doodles on the side.

one of the best images they had was the original concept sketch of mhana-mhana

I think my favorite creation from Jim Henson is the song The Rainbow connection. Its so simple and sweet.

Anway, go visit the exhibit, you wont regret it.

Its Simple, Kill The Batman

before i attempt this blog, i admit that i can in no way do this movie justice. It was AMAZING. Stop reading if you havent seen it yet because this will contain spoilers

Likes:
1. Christian Bale, as always, is a very suave batman. Leslie and i had a fight over who has liked him longer she argued that she has liked him since little women, but I won in saying I liked him since Newsies (two years earlier)

2.Heath Ledger was amazing. Hands down the best villain ever portrayed. And no, i promise his death has nothing to do with how i feel about this. He really got into the role whole heartedly and was perfect for the part. so dark and twisted. He got every mannerisms fantastically in character. and most of my favorite lines and scenes were his.

3. I loved the idea about the two sides to everything, and whether or not people are inherently evil or good, and whether or not you can make someone turn bad. I love that batman is such a strongly good person, and at the same time harvy dent was morally weak and corruptible. Kinda like Luke Skywalker vs Annakin Skywalker

4. Gary Oldman was the perfect Lt Gordon. Pretty different character than the one we are use to seeing him in

5. Everything. (except what i'm about to write below)

Dislikes:
1. Batman's voice. that has to be enhanced in the sound room yet batman wears no voice changer. I didnt like this in batman begins either.

2. Rachel Dawson, while she has a kick ass first name, she is a very weak character. Neither Katie nor Maggie did a good job which leads me to believe it was just the part not the actress.

3. Scarecrow. He was bad enough to devote an entire movie to capturing so why did they take care of him in less than 5 minutes without even trying hard or putting up much of a fight? I mean I don't want them to dedicate too much more time to him, but at least make it hard. Also when the inmates are all on the boat together it would have been cool if he were on board trying to cause some trouble.

What a great weekend!

My friends are awesome! so thanks to everyone that made this such a fun weekend! A lot of DC friends came out, and even some NYC friends (leslie, and sarah) and also some far maryland people (chris, jessica, robbie, charlotte, levi, and todd) So i know you guys traveled really far so Thank you again!

Friday night was fun because we went to dinner at utopia which was pretty good, then to Joe's bday party then on to DC9. Its not often that I go out without peter, but we had a girls night which meant of course that lots of random people came up to chat/flirt/be awkward to us and it was hilarious. The best pick up line (and there were quite a few in the running) went to someone who hit on leslie.
Guy: Hey, see my friend over there (points to guy in white pants with white formal vest), well we are in a wedding coming up and we want to know if we should wear that outfit.
Leslie: No! stick with the traditional tux

Then sat....saturday was something awesome.
Kicked off with The Dark Knight (which deserves its own blog i'll write later this week). Then off to Rocket bar which is newly renovated and three times the size it use to be. New with skee ball and many other fun games.

towards the end of the night we started playing skee ball after they tried to call last call (which we took extra shots and promptly ignored). This random guy came up to watch us play. He was trying to hype some music act he was in (i dont know, but i have the flyer or ten of them). He stood there feeding quarters into the machine for leslie and peter to play as i watched and laughed. I then noticed he was wearing from his hip a 2 foot sword. WTF. Thats when i began to get worried. He came over to do the fist pound thing and laughed at me for doing it wimpy, i told him i didnt want to hurt him to which he responded by taking off his shirt and showing me all his gunshot wounds.....Time to leave the bar!

Then sunday was the muppets exhibit which i will also blog separately.

Do you think i got any sleep at all this weekend? no. but it was worth it.

Congressional Baseball Game

Last night I went with Peter and his office to the 47th congressional baseball game at nationals park. It was pretty amusing. After a close game, unfortunately the republicans won 11-10 :(

One weird thing i noticed was when this dude chip (i forget his last name)was on deck and practicing a few swings with his aluminum (or whatever metal) bat when it happened...he let go. The bat flew behind him and up two or three rows and knocked some republican in the crowd on the head. He went down. And stayed down. The medics came out, wrapped some bandages around his head and escorted him out. He walked out so I think he'll be fine, and I assume he was going to the hospital.

NASA and Iphones

Last night peter took me to a reception for the returning astronauts of sts-124. It was really cool and they even showed a breif video of thier trip which was super cool. It showed some angles that you dont usually see on the news including a segment called "stupid astronaut tricks" where they do things like eat floating m&m's or have the little guy pretend to hold the entire big guy above his head. I wish i were an astronaut.

Then i checked on line, like i do every night, to see which stores would have the iphone the next day. VA only had the white one in stock at ONE store. I decided to search the rest of the country and was shocked to find out how many stores wouldnt be carrying it almost a week after its release. it looks like i'm going to have to wait longer than i had thought :(

And I'm back!

Well i've returned from Cape Cod. It was a great and relaxing vacation, but way too short. I have lots of pictures if you ask for them.

Our return flight was delayed and I didnt get home till 3am sunday night, hence my sleeping way late last night and no post yesterday. I'm still tired!

On another note I have been trying really hard to find an iphone. The apple stores claim they get a shipment every day. This cant be true b/c at 9pm you can see the inventory for all the stores and they are all sold out for days to come. my other option is to pay now and get on the preorder waiting list through att who at one store alone has taken 200 pre orders. wtf. why is this so difficult. I hate waiting.

i'm very frustrated :(

Also tonight I leave for cape cod till sunday, so i wont be posting here for the rest of the week! instead i'll be on the beach doing nothing!

JARED TRICKED US

I dont usually post twice in one day, but this was so important I had to post it immediately.

SUBWAY IS DECIEVING

check out the FAQ specifically #4 and #6
http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/AboutSubway/subwayFaqs.aspx

did you ever notice how every one of thier signs says "doctor's associates" at the bottom. its simply the copyright for subway, but to anyone that doesnt know any better they might think its actually associated with doctors and must be healthy.

its not

Crossed over into being old

In a conversation getting excited for the new batman movie

Me: I remember when the first movie came out
Co Worker: oh yeah? that was the year I was born.

Later that day recounting that story to another co worker he says
"you remember that? i was only two, i didnt realize you were that old"

Yep, i'm an old lady, and getting older by the minute. Only about two weeks before its official (yes we all know how much i love my birthday)

4th of July Weekend

For the 4th a few of us went to Chris's house in baltimore where he has a great view from his rooftop.

I'd say the higlight of the night was when Peter all of a sudden alerts the entire rooftop party that someone has just pushed a girl down and then flashed us. At this point everyone stopped watching the fireworks and watched them. They stopped fighting with eachother and started heckling us. We have no idea what they were saying, but they sure were pissed. They even stopped and just glared at us for a while. Funny thing is that our door was open and really they could have just walked in.

Anyway the first person flashed us a few more times. We still arent clear what gender that person may be, and realized its most likely a tranny.
