I GOT A Wii

Yes, I bought a Wii. And its Awesome.

As you might know, its near impossible to buy one of these in a store. A new shipment came in yesterday, and its already sold out. Lucky for me I decided to talk about it in my apt elevator the other day, and one of my neighbors offered to sell me his. I jumped at this offer, and now I own a Wii.

Last night we played Wii sports. I am super good at Wii bowling and already bowled a 150. Golf and Tennis i'm not so good at, but its fun. And Baseball I just find boring.

Tonight I'm going to give Wii Play a shot, ping pong and skeetball look fun.

So now I have a Super Nintendo and a Wii, so if any of you want to play any games give me a call :)

Jim sent me this article which I liked about SNES.

Too much Superbowl

So I'm super excited to watch the patriots...but i'm less than excited to deal with any giants fan. I've been dealing with them for a week now and its getting old.

Also I've learned that Green bay fans are poor sports. After spending an entire season rooting for green bay and trying to be a good friend all my efforts have been rejected hard.

Whatever, f'that. next year i'm going to continue to be a boston fan and i'll be that mass-hole they all want me to be. Everyone says "i hate boston fans" because we've turned into the yankees etc. well I'm the one contact you have to redsox nation and patriots fanbase so I take that a lot more personal than I guess it should be. You build up in your head how terrible we are...but all i've been is nice. Guess what? Its on.

There will be bordom

So I saw there will be blood this weekend. I had high hopes. Actors looked good, story looked good, and the trailers rocked.

Well I was wrong. Very wrong.

First off I'll say what was good. The actors were good, and they definitely made the type of movie they were going for. Me being bored was no accident.

What I didnt like was that nothing happened. They kept getting close to good story lines and conflict, and then letting them fade away. So many cool stories could have come out of this.

My least favorite part about it was the music. That was just plain annoying.

Anyway, it wasnt a terrible movie, it was just a blah movie.

Two reviews from rottentomato.com that basically sum up my experience:

"It's as if you can feel the oil flowing under the ground, bubbling, seeking a weak patch of earth from which to spew. But, the climactic emotional equivalent never occurs"

"If you want to be a movie snob this year, this is the one to say you've enjoyed. If you want to be entertained, this is the movie to avoid."

ugh

sometimes working with 10 year old boys really gets to me.

So now i'm working 2 days a week at dulles. I hate it there. People arent friendly and the work is boring.

Well i'm looking forward now to coming to my greenbelt office, but seconds after I arrive here I'm reminded of how annoying this office can be too. How hard is it to just not touch my f'ing stuff. Its work people, not a dorm room.

I cant wait for the weekend.

Somehow I break EVERYTHING

So every night If I have the TV on before bed I like to hit sleep timer so I dont accidentally wake up hours later to something scary. An old fear from staying at my grandparents house when I was younger since they let me have a TV in my room, whereas my parents wouldn't have.

Anyway, the sleep timer usually works flawlessly, I set it for 30 min, an hour, whatever, and at exactly the right moment the tv turns off. its great.

Frequently the TV gets shut off anyway before the timmer goes off, so i dont know how recently this problem started, but two nights ago we were watching yet another episode of the office (season 2 now) and were super tired. So good ole sleep timer gets set, and the episode gets started.

Well at 7:02 am abba starts singing (my alarm clock) and I find that little DVD logo floating around my tv screen! WTF! the sleep timer failed me!!

I gave it another go last night, but stayed awake to see what would happen. Same thing, it didnt turn the TV off!

Does anyone know how to go about fixing a sleep timer?????

Sarah Connor Chronicles

So I am getting forced to watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Its alright, but nothing special.

Also I never really watched the terminator movies. Once Joey made me watch Terminator 2 I think, but I dont really remember it.

Anyway the show seems pretty dumb to me b/c I dont really buy the androids building themselves, and the whole time travel thing is dumb. Basically I guess i dont like AI type story lines I guess. I just dont buy it. I'd rather watch Celebrity apprentice any day of the week.

NYC, Flat Tires, and the coldest weather ever

Tristan Mike and I road triped to NYC this weekend to stay with Leslie and I also saw highschool friends, other friends from home, and my grandmother. So it was a productive weekend.

Unfortunately 15 minutes after arriving in the city and unpacking the car at leslie's mike's car got a flat tire. To Leslie and Tristan's suprise mike and i calmly got out of the car, got the full spare and began to change the tire. Unfortunately certain tools were lost and we couldnt fully change the tire and required a tow...3 hours later we made it to the best mac and cheese restaurant ever!

Somehow we picked the coldest weekend in existance to go visit so one of our first stops was to buy hats, scarves, and really hot and sexy ear warmers. I'm still thawing out from the cold!

The weekend was lots of fun, but I dont think i'll be going back to nyc in the winter months any time soon.

Snowy Days making me homesick

Well today is the first day all year where snow has stuck overnight. At my dulles office we even got half a foot of snow, but returning to greenbelt today i see less than an inch.

I miss snow that you can play in and build snow men, forts, snowball fights, sledding...basically snow that isnt so thin that you can see all the dirt and grass. This snow just looks dirty and just gets annoying. Its never enough snow to get a snow day. I was talking to laurie in minisota, and they even get COLD days if its too cold to go outside. Here in the comfortably middle level range weather the only reason in my almost decade of living down here that i've gotten anything cancelled was if it had previously snowed and the dc area hadnt figured out how to plow out for one reason or another, and it was just the lingering effects of the snow that got us out of school. Lame.

Its alright though because I'm not so great with cold weather anyway...I've lost my boston warmth keeping me warm on the coldest of days...or simply not caring :)

RIP Brad Renfro

Brad Renfro died yesterday. He was a major crush of mine back in the day....say 1994 when he was in The Client. I must have watched that movie every weekend that year. and then of course Tom and Huck which co starred him with JTT...movies didnt get better than that.

Brad also had a special place in my heart because he was one day younger than me according to Tiger Beat Magazine (he was july 25th)

I guess someone had to keep Jonathan Brandis company.

restaurant week

Last night a group of us girls went to restaurant week at the oval room. We had a reservation for 8 people for 7pm. We made these reservations weeks ago, and I called to find out if they had legit vegetarian options (meaning options i'd eat). The answer was only on thier normal menu, but that was fine.

So we show up at 6:45 because we are timely girls, and they tell us it will be 5 or 10 minutes. Thats ok. So at 7:15 (30 minutes later) they tell us that the table we are supposed to be at is "just getting ready to leave" and that he knew they'd be out momentarily since they had an appointment at the whitehouse in 10 minutes.

15 minutes later he assures us they are getting ready to stand up and leave because the president is waiting for them. YEAH, we almost believe that the president is waiting for some random family eating at the oval room. so we start talking loudly about how its a lame lie and rather condescending and that we dislike gwb anyway since he has sent our friends away to war so we clearly dont think someone going to the white house to meet with him is overly important or impressive.

He over hears this and comes over and appologizes again for the wait and then offers us champagne, which clearly we take.

The meal itself wasnt anything special. Dessert sucked. And the veggie options sucked. They had lied about having additional items on their menu from the normal menu and I was stuck eatting chestnut ravioli. ew. who likes chestnuts.

Basically I do not recomend the Oval Room.

Some people are slow

So i started going to the dulles office twice a week. Yesterday was my first day. I showed up promptly at 8:30 am (after an hour drive!) and found out that i had an office which including a desk, and a guest chair. no desk chair and more importantly no computer.

Turns out they dont bring the new computers till 1 or 2, so I left and will try again. All I have to say though is that this drive is really making me appreciate maryland. VA traffic sucks, VA atmosphere sucks. Clearly this isnt including stuff just into virginia, Just about all the way to ballston is ok...anything past that sucks.

Stolen cars, sports, and bars...that about sums up my weekend

Sat Laura and I went to the georgetown uconn basketball game, bar louie to watch the packers game, back to the verizon center for the celtics game, then fado for the patriots game. It was an intense and awesome day.

The most amusing part came when we sat down to watch the packers game. This group of mid thirty's guys started standing infront of us. The one lady with them got them to move out of our line of sight of the TV, and in return we offered them our extra seats at our table. One of the guys really apprecited this. so much so that he sat down and spent the next couple hours talking to us and even bought mike a shot of some mystery drink.

The guy (and his group) were pretty drunk when they got there, but their stories were the best part. I guess in order to get to the game they drove a car that didnt have any keys nor did it have a spot for a key anymore on the drivers side...their words exactly were that they "acquired" a car. WHAT? I dont want to know this! The shoes the guy was wearing evidently came from inside the car.

also, The guy loved my green shirt so much that he had the girl come over and show me her irish tattoo...on her butt.

Also my favorite bad attempt was when laura and I were sitting at fado way later. Two guys come up to us, one of which was kinda falling all over the place. I was kinda laughing at him and his friend noticed this. He looks at me, shrugs with a "when in rome" expression, and then gives me his best "hey baby".

morning radio

Morning radio is a difficult thing. I know i've blogged about it before, but now I have a new frustration.

One channel that actually mixes music into the morning block is 94.7 the old arrow now the globe i think. Anyway the problem is 1. they alternate good songs with really crapy songs and then 2. weasel sucks. He is annoying, not funny, terrible voice, and clearly too old to be incharge of morning radio. as soon as he starts talking i change the station, i'd rather listen to Eliot in the morning's talk than weasel...actually i'd rather listen to ANYONE talk than him. This morning i stooped so low as to change to hot 99.5 when weasel started talking.

Thats my morning vent. Get a new DJ.

A glimer of hope in a sea of re runs and reality tv

This week the first new One Tree Hill of the season aired. It was a planned mid season start, but I was worried b/c last year was so lame that I was ready to give up on it anyway.

To my surprise this season is really good! Between last season and this season 4 years have passed and the ages of the characters have almost caught up with the actors so you dont have a 25 year old chad michael murray playing a high schooler anymore.

The little kid that two of the characters had in highschool is now 4 and is super cute, but whats even cuter are how the friends "uncle luke" and "uncle skills" are treating him :) The story line is decent so far, and annoying things they use to let drag on they arent letting drag on anymore.

So if you, like me, wanted to give up after last season give them another try, its actually pretty awesome

Belga Cafe

So I thought i'd start throwing some restaurant reviews in here on occasion because I seem to go to some pretty awesome places.

Last night I got taken to Belga Cafe down on 8th street SE. I've been to that area many times and never noticed this place before.

Its a Belgium themed restaurant. At first glance the menu had a lot of meat on it. There was even a section of the menu that was entirely devoted to muscles. This I was amused by because when I went to Belgium, everyone I was with had muscles at literally every meal possible because I guess they were extraordinarily good there, but I figured it was just the town we were in and not the whole country...I guess its their thing.

Lucky for me there was a veggie section and I got an awesome pasta dish that was flavored so well! Also as an appetizer we got the cheese plate which we devoured. And for dessert was a flour less chocolate cake with a lemon thyme ice cream.

I'm getting hungry again thinking about it! It looks like they have a pretty cool brunch too so hopefully i'll go back :)

Traffic

From VA it takes me about 45 min to get to work, and I always assumed it was city traffic that held me up as well as general 295 congestion...well it turns out i'm wrong and all the traffic is getting to and then over the va/dc bridges.

Now starting off in DC it can take me 15 minutes to get to work! Thats unheard of! Its awesome.

Of course now i'm being sent part time to the dulles office to work on a project...isnt that how it always goes.

Jetta vs HHR

So my lovely little jetta is in the shop again. It shook when i started it up and the key got stuck in the ignition when i tried to leave the car so I decided it was time to bring it in.

For starters the onsite car rental place has given me the Chevy HHR...I dont know if anyone is familiar with this car but its like a cross between a SUV, a bus, a station wagon, and a large pt cruiser. It has the biggest blind spots ever, and is terrible.

Anyway the car place doesnt seem to know whats wrong with my car, they've called me with two suggestions that I discredited and four days later they are ready to have me pick up the car. I'd be surprised if anything was fixed though since the only thing they did was reboot the computer in the car and they have no idea why the key gets stuck.

SO its monday and i'm annoyed....

I dont even know

So a while ago I became addicted to this site: www.woot.com . I've never bought anything from it, but for some reason I love checking in every day to see what the new deal is. Its so exciting!

Well i have recently become aware that there are two spinoffs
http://shirt.woot.com/
http://wine.woot.com/

I think its a good thing i havent started ordering anything from this site, b/c every now and then they have expensive items like a new tv, and its just a slippery slope before i impulsively buy one on woot.

Here's the thing

I dont particularly care to argue whose football team is better than whose, actually I dont really feel the need to trash talk about football in general.

Now that the redskins are in the final run to the superbowl their fans have become increasingly more annoying. The weird thing is that I dont hate the redskins, and if the pats arent playing i'll probably opt to watch or root for the skins anwyay...so arguing with me about them is pointless.

What is particularly hard is that skins fans dont really have a great argument for why thier team should win. Here is how the conversations go

Redskins Fan (RSF): Man my team is so the best, all other teams better watch out cuse we are gonna win everything
Me: Oh yeah? Because I think my team just completed a perfect season.
RSF: Whatever, doesnt matter, my team is on FIRE, four games in a row!
Me: Didnt we kick your ass last time we faced off?
RSF:Nah-uh
Me: Hmm maybe I was watching another game then
RSF: Yeah thats right, we are gonna win it all

When trying to have a reasonable conversation things like Nah-uh dont really hold up well. Basically I just give up

What happens in vegas...

stays in vegas. Especially my money :( oh well. It was fun there though! I saw cirque de soliel's Love (The beatles one) and that was awesome, and our hotel (mandalay bay) was where the big UFC fight was so there was tons going on. I saw a bunch of fighters that i had no clue who they were and chuck lidell's coach. I think my favorite bar was rum jungle. I wish I had a rum bar like that in my apt.

I cant wait to go back and am already planning my next trip there :)

Happy 2008 everyone!
