This post is totally unrelated to the last one, I swear.
I really want to see the movie Rachel Getting Married. Not just cuse it has a cool name, it also looks really good, and like my type of movie.
Here's the catch. Noone will see it with me. (although laura just said she might when we get back from new years, but chances are it might not even be in theaters by then)
Peter, my movie buddy, has already seen it. That F*^%er! He saw it back in wisconsin and claims some of his female friends picked it and he had no choice. Dont you think thats the type of movie you'd be like "oh i think i'll wait to see it with Rachel". I havent met these friends of his, but you are on warning!
If there was a movie called "Peter wins the world series" clearly i'd wait for him, and turn down any other offers to see it!

stolen internet part II
So last night the option was 1981 trivial pursuit, or Star Wars trivial pursuit.
We opted for 1981 trivial pursuit. WRONG CHOICE. not only were the categories all difererent but they were all dated, and unless you were around then you cant answer almost any of these 27 year old questions.
So after attempting that we moved over to star wars trivia...now i knew peter knew a lot of star wars stff, but this was ridiculous! he could quote any scene the questions were taken from. wtf. Next time i'm bringing a book

On Stolen Internet
Well, i've almost made it through christmass. All I can say is that its world longest holiday. First you have christmass eve dinner, then you just sit around chatting all night. And then you have the morning stockings and presents and brunch etc. Then you have a little downtime during the day awkwardly waiting for another meal.
I'm used to one meal and then maybe hanging out a little after and thats it. The presents do help though :)
Currently everyone is reading to themselves in the living room while i was sitting there eatting cheese, so i decided to come back upstairs and play on my computer a bit for lack of anything else to do. Next year, I"ll bring a book. Lesson learned.

Almost the holidays
This weekend was pretty fun. some of which I cant blog about. some of which I can.
We went to Lindsay and Chris's holiday party "cookies and cocktails" which was delish all around, and enjoyed playing guitar hero.
I mad a LOT of latkes. my entire apt smells like them. it was nice at first, now it sucks.
Also I got to see the Mann/Farmer/Criss/Gwinn contingency. Had lots of balls. LOTS. and got lots of wonderful presents, most of which I cant blog about either.
The next few days might be a little sparse on blogs. Tomorrow i fly to new hampshire, and unless i can figure out how to get my computer on peter's parents' wifi i probably wont be able to blog, then I return to dc for the weekend and Dan and Beth's wedding at the rod and reel (hehehe, thats for you jessica, since its no longer called the rod and reel) Then BACK to new england but Boston this time. so its going to be a busy few days.
Thats all i have for now....

Girls Night
Last night i went out with the girls, and paul who was a stand in for a last minute cancellation.
after some "holiday festivities" our night ended at coco sala which was AWESOME.
The mac and cheese "main course" rocked. it was a perfect little mac and cheese tartlet. Oh and i got a pear martini thing which was out of this world.
A ms mathers and i split our dessert because it sounded overwhelming. we were right. we got coco grownup. you can see one of the courses on my tumblr rsoxrach.tumblr.com
The first course of the dessert was a gellatenous coffee thing and a boston creme donut.
The second course was some malted chocolate drink, a peanutbutter icecream thing covered in chocolate, a chocolate cupcake, and bananas foster
The dessert of the desserts was a cheesecake lolly pop covered in pop rocks, and a chocolate cone filled with mint chip stuff. DELISH. Thanks lindsay for being such a great date.
I got home to a very tired peter awaiting a cuddle, to his dismay I was "pre hungover from all the chocolate". lol. I'm still feeling it today.

West Wing Season 2
Costco was selling west wing seasons for 15 bucks each, so we bought season one as i mentioned earlier, but waited on the next few seasons because i figured it would be there when we needed the next few seasons.
I was wrong
So we ordered season 2 on ebay (since normal stores sell it for 50 bucks). It arrived last night with NO protective packaging. The DVDs were ok, but the box was ruined. We were annoyed to start off with.
Now comes time to watch them since season 1 ended with a cliff hanger (which i'd seen before since i watched the series when it first aired on tv).
SEASON 2 DISC 1 WAS MISSING! wtf. They gave us TWO disc 2's :(
So i've emailed the guy to see what he can do about it. I'm NOT happy.

Holiday Party
Every year there is a holiday party in my building, and every year I skip it in all its awkwardness.
Not this year!
This year i had a partner in crime so we swooped in, got lots of food, and left. It was worth it. We only chatted with one person, and he was pretty nice, so all in all it worked out pretty well :)

Weekend
For starters the Dark Knight on Blu Ray is beyond awesome. We had some drinks, and some chips and dip and all that fun stuff and mike, tristan, katie, and treon ended up coming over. The Imax scenes were so crisp and clear it was ridiculous. Then we watched one of the bonus features on the gadgets in the movie. The car is pretty cool.
Sat we spent the day over the bridge with the Mann/Criss/Farmers. It was Jonas's birthday which as predicted was a lot of fun :) so many cute little kids running around.

Boston Bruins
Last night we went to the bruins caps game (Thanks Jordan!). Sorry Leslie, Tim Thomas was not in goal :( they probably would have been better off with him though :( .
Peter gets lots of points though b/c we were sitting next to two redskins cheerleaders...or maybe dance team i cant remember what they said. Anyway he didn't even look at them other than to tell them that we were not infact watching the team they were cheering for...the buffalo bills.
At one point they even got up and did some little dance routine and practically shook their asses in peter's face and he still didn't flinch.
I was trying to decide if their noses and boobs were real, we decided they werent.
Too bad the bruins lost though :(

Road Rage
Some parts of my drive people are big jerks, and generally i like to give them the finger. who does that? me.
1. Like if there is a long line to turn, i understand people need to jump in at some point , but if you wait till the last minute I'm not going to let you in. Everyone else waited in line and its just not fair. You are going to get the finger.
2. This one happened twice in the last week. If there is just a little space between me and the car infront of me, and almost noone behind me for like 4 car lenghts or more WHY go infront of me? there isnt enough space, its dangerous, and you are a jerk. Just go behind me like a normal person. This one gets a honk and the finger.
3. I HATE it when people tail me with a suv or high beams when i'm going above the speed limit. esp if noone else is on the road. jsut change lanes and go around me. Also you KNOW you are blinding, so f'you. i hate you so much. this one just gets me to not go faster and possibly go slower.
i'm sure there are more. i hate other drivers on the road.

Weekend Fun
The weekend was fun and productive.
First off i'm moving again, signed everything this weekend :) Cant wait. Jan move so maybe a party or something shortly after. After inauguration of course b/c things get crazy then.
Sat night we went out with the mann/criss/farmers to georgia browns and the movie Milk. I had never been to that restaurant before and it was awesome! I highly recommend it. And Milk was so good. Very sad as expected, but so great, how could you not love Harvey Milk. I'll probably go see it again and then buy it.

Benders Game
Thats right, last night we watched the newest in a series of futurama movies.
This one was called Benders Game.
It was really funny. If you like Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of The Rings, and Star Wars you will love this movie. It combines/pokes fun at all three.
Then i watched the commentary after and realized that the writers were never meant to be seen in hd. oh well.

Awesome
So we did buy the blu ray player. and we did buy wall*e and set it up and watched last night.
1. wall*e is just as good and cute and sweet as i remember. and burn*e (although i think it should be burn*a to go with the axiom or earth theme) was cute too.
2. blu ray players ROCK. everything looked awesome. i cant wait to watch everything in blu ray!

Blu Ray Tuesday!
Last night peter and i went to best buy and target to see if we could get a blu ray dvd player even though black Friday was over. It turns out we had two options.
1. 300 bucks for the sony lower model which we read reviews of and knew was good
2. 160 insigna that we had never heard of
The best buy guy told us the insigna wasn't that good and to get the sony, and then falsely told us there was a sale. when we got to the register with the sony we found out there was in fact no sale.
We left the store with no blu ray, and went home to research the insigna, which i like because my smaller tv is that brand anyway. Turns out insigna is best buy's own brand. who knew!
Also it turns out that this player is perfectly good for my purposes since i have no crazy sound system and dont care to upgrade downloads and stuff. So tonight we are going back to get the insigna and Wall-e and Iron Man!

Monday blog on sunday night
my flight is delayed indefinately, i think i'll get to bwi by like 12:30 if i'm lucky, so I figured i'd blog tonight since i'll be tired tomorrow.
Thanksgiving was.....well....at least its over. This was probably my worst trip home and i'm really not looking forward to going back.
Anyway I did get to see a bunch of friends which was fun. I went to see slumdog millionare with joey. Great movie. i recomend it. I also got to see Coogan and paul...I almost beat them at guitar hero (me on easy, them on expert, and they still had like 1000 pts more than me). I saw a bunch of winsor girls too which was fun, and i did a lot of shopping with my sister. So that part was fun.
I'm glad to be waiting in the airport to go back to the dc area again though.

Minty Goodness
I've decided to do a second post today.
As most of you know i'm generally bitter about the holiday season. Even this year when i have so many holiday parties to go to and a very nice family thats letting me celebrate with them (and last two years the mann/criss/farmer family let me celebrate with them too!). For some reason I just dont like that season.
There is however, one aspect to the season that I LOVE. every candy is offered in MINT! its awesome. mint m&m's, mint hershey kisses, mint hershey bliss things. Its awesome! I have a whole drawer full of mint candy right now and i'm so happy about it.

Weekend
Sat night we had a pre thanksgiving dinner with a couple friends. That was a lot of fun and very yummy!! My personal favorite part was when annie and will had thier impression off. Will did star wars/lotr/snl impressions while annie did ET which was dead on.
Sat we looked at some new apartments and have some decisions to make now. Bigger/more expensive/better location vs even bigger/cheap/decent location. argh.

Gmail Goodies
Gmail offers a lot of goodies, and the newest is a themes option which offers limited color schemes and pictures you can pick from. For some reason some of my friends have different options than i do and i'm jealous.
I had up my away message asking which theme to pick, and i was amused by this exchange from me and leslie, even at a distance we are on the same page
(in response to my away message)
Leslie: Phantasea
obvi
me: thats what i have on
:)
obvi
Leslie: the only thing better would be "Fanta" Sea
me: thats true
grape fanta sea

Black Cat Black Cat
First off, black cat's new sound system hurts my ears. Today i'm still hearing ringing in my ears and i'm not happy about this.
Joe and I saw local H and Electric Six.
Local H we'd already seen and last time it was a much better show. They were really into the new presidency. fine, thats exciting stuff, but for the most part the rally stuff is over till the inaguration, and DC people get it so much that we are kinda over it, but they felt the need to get us to chant Fuck George Bush. I dont really feel anger towards george anymore, he's gone, i dont want to worry myself with him.
Electric six was awesome. The singer started off in an awesome red cape, then for the second song switched to a purple cape. So now i'm thinking "wow is this guy going to have a different cape for every song??" fingers crossed!!! unfortunately that was the last of the capes :( But he was entertaining anyway. They also jumped on the political talk. They have a song about bush so he goes "what are we going to do?" thier solution....For the next 58 days he is still president so they can continue singing it. Then after that???? TIME TRAVEL. awesome.
I'm sure i have much more to say, but i'm tired and my ears are ringing.

Early morning
This morning i had to BE AT WORK by 8:30. Not just my office, some random branch in beltsville in some sketchy back lot where i nearly got lost. It was the worst. And if you think i didnt try and protest this in advance you are wrong. Unfortunately i couldnt get out of it.
But the good news is that i'm now re certified in electrostatic discharge.

West Wing
I use to love the west wing. Like every season until Sam Left, and then mostly liked every season after that until they got into that stupid election junk. Seriously, the worst.
Anyway, during sunday's trip to costco we found out that each season is being sold for 15 dollars! how could you pass that up? So we've started with season 1 and its as good as I remember :) Although i dont remember it visually being so dark, and all the characters hating eachother. I think at some point that all changes. Like the way that in the simpsons smithers' color changes after the first few episodes.

Weekend
I had a great weekend so i'll only include a few parts on this blog.
Sat we met up with the Criss family to go to the air and space museum. As expected it was awesome. It was fun to see the kids get excited and ask questions about just about everything in the museum. It was also nice to get to see Charlotte and Levi even though they werent as cised about space as the kids :)
Sat night peter and I had a romantic candle lit dinner. I know, you are all jealous. We made spinach and gorgenzola filo rolls, and a pear and raspberry tart along with one of the bottles of wine from the vineyards i visited and plenty of candles.
Sunday we went to lucky bar for the wisconsin football game even though i hate wisconsin. Who knew lucky bar had good bloody marys and falafel! I'll go there again for football. Although I did get sat on by a stranger. An older gentleman came over and asked if the seat on the couch next to me was free, and then moved over and tried to sit ON me little kid on santa clause style. Luckily he changed his mind and sat on the empty seat, and then after trying to start conversation with us and practically getting ignored he left and found another tv.

Friday at last!
Its been a long week since the break on tuesday just made wed feel like monday again. But its friday!
Yesterday I didnt blog b/c i was running around all day from thing to thing. The two highlights were Getting to see the apollo 8 astronauts celebrating thier 40th anniversary of flying around the moon at the newseum (thanks mom and dad for the membership)
and then i rushed back to work for a meeting with the programmers of femap who toured us around the un released version 10. They had some really cool new features that I cant wait to use if i can find it again. Ok sorry for that nerdy bit there :) I couldnt resist.

leatherheads
last night we watched leatherheads because both of our dvd players have broken (we each bought a 30 dollar dvd player from best buy, and now both dont work, guess we got what we paid for). So we were forced to use on demand and that was the movie we could both agree on. I dont think either of us wanted to see it really badly, but it didnt look that bad either.
We were wrong.
The movie tried sooooooo hard, but you dont end up liking any of the characters and nothing was funny, and I was just bored from the start.
I do not recommend this movie.

Great weekend!
My parents were in town this weekend so we went to a lot of museums. Also peter came home!
The best museum we went to was the portraits of power exhibit at the corcran. it was really cool, and even though its not a free museum I recommend going before they take away the exhibit.
It was a pretty relaxing weekend which was very welcome :)

Music
So I knew I liked vampire weekend, but recently Joe gave me a full copy of the cd so I could hear the rest of their songs since I only had a few. I think i'm obsessed with one in particular its called walcott i think. Anyway its about cape cod so i think its funny and they mention all these things that i agree with or know about :) actually most of thier songs are about boston related things which is cool.

is it friday yet?
I dont want to say i'm jealous of barack obama's girls because their father is going to be a little busy for the next four to eight years, but they are getting a puppy! I was already jealous of their puppy, but then last night I was watching the daily show and John Oliver dangled some super cute puppies infront of me which just made me want a puppy more.
I texted peter (who comes home soon) to make sure he was watching. he was, but he was also getting to play with two super cute puppies at the house he's staying at!

Great Night
Its been no secret on my blog who i've been pulling for, so understandably I was extremely happy last night.
A few of us went to Bare and Tbone's house on capitol hill to watch the numbers come in. Once the night was called we popped some bubbly and began to celebrate. After Barack's great speach we took to the streets. We walked from capitol hill to the white house and on the way picked up celebrators, by the time we were almost at the white house we were walking with a group of around 50 people.
The entire walk every car that passed was honking and cheering and we were cheering back and it was awesome.
At the white house everyone was high fiving, dancing around, playing music, chanting yes we did. At one point a "na na na na hey hey hey goodbye" chant went out to the boys currently in the whitehouse ;) It was such a great feeling to be there in the middle of it all and to be a part of it.
We decided to make the full circle and walk around the back of the white house where the ellipse is, and ALL the lights were out. It was kinda funny.
The whole night Katie and others kept saying "we're going streaking", but once we got to the ellipse and the sprinklers were on and getting us wet some people actually DID go streaking to our encouraging "take it off" cheers.

Election Tuesday
I just voted in a swing state. Its interesting having your vote actually count.
It was also funny when the sample ballot guys came up to me and I took the blue one, and then declined the red one, then the blue guy said to the red guy "yours is a hard sell in this neighborhood isnt it?" and red guy said "yeah". I dont think I could live in a red neighborhood.

Another Blog on this lovely monday
My car sucks. Like not just a little trouble. A LOT of trouble. So screw you vw. Like last thursday my tire had like zero pressure, fixed that, then friday the engine oil pressure light went on. I went to check my oil and the dip stick handle broke right off. I got some pliers and pried it off and sure enough oil was on the low side, but not dangerously low.
I took it to Mr. Tire (they do more than just tires) and explained the problem, and requested an oil change while they were at it. A few hours later they called to say it was fixed.
This morning on my way to work the same light went on so i had to pull over and call a tow truck since the vw manual specifically says DO NOT drive with this problem. AWESOME. So i called geico and they sent a tow truck.
The tow truck wasnt able to lift my car b/c the front was too low. It was at this point that i realized mr tire rotated my tires so the tire with the slow leak was now on the front. AWESOME. so they had to send back the tow truck and send a flat bed instead.
So we'll see what happens.

Fun and Random Weekend
Friday night I went out with some friends as "m&m's" It was fun, and we ended up at two parties but dont ask me where, I just followed the candy.
I havent done my worst attempt feature in a while, this week's came at the very end of the night when i was getting in a taxi. One man walked over to the taxi and goes "mmm girl I like what i'm seeing, mmm nice legs.." and then just as he's about to add what i'm sure is another sleezy or creepy line katie comes over to get in the cab and goes "oh no, Get the F out of the cab" shoves him out of the way, slams the door and we are off.
Sat night was good too because Jenn was in town! We went to some party up in tennley town, and played card games all night till the keg was done and we walked to the dancing crab! I was so excited because I've always wanted to go there because i liked the name. Turns out noone goes there and I dont have a desire to return. oh well we had fun anyway. Also the party was NOT dress up, but some people assumed that since it was halloween weekend they'd come dressed up, so it was hilarious when the first costumed guest arrived and was all embarrassed and was like "noone told me this wasnt dress up". It reminded me of legally blond.

Useless
So Wed night at Jordan's Birthday Dinner during a discussion about the most useless majors Julie says "How about American Studies, thats pretty bad" so I respond "Who would do that, thats not real"
To which one of the girls at the table raises her hand and says "i did that". ooops. Julie knew that too and set me up.
That got us thinking about what the most useless Majors are. Here is a list of the top ones, and yes, i'll probably respect you less
...And the winners are...
*American Studies...self explanatory, at least be a history major
*Art History, seriously? don't waste your money, go to a museum or travel.
*Sociology (sorry Chris, I still respect you because you went on to law school)
*Psychology..but only if you really intend to be a psychologist or psychiatrist, otherwise its ok, kinda...
Can you think of other nominations?

Weird Dreams
So you know how dreams tend to relate to whatever is going on during the day?
Well last night i had a weird dream. It was my first political dream. In my dream it was election day, and for some reason throughout the day they knew exactly what the "score" was, not just exit polls, like thye knew exactly where tehy were at. So I kept checking and Obama was ahead in Virginia, then Mccain took the lead, then it was neck and neck. I went home and voted, and could actually see in the figures how my vote fit in, and for like two seconds Obama was ahead again in VA.
Then when everything closed at night Virginia was tied, like to the exact number, each candidate had the exact same number of voters. weird. And that how they left it when I woke up.
I just want the election to be over so i can go back to my engineering dreams. lol

I guess I'll blog now from the millwake airport.
Before I was referring to Wisconsin as Siberia (true, it snowed here), but now it has a new name...THE POLLUTION CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. Its seriously gross. The number of smokestacks with gross SMELLY stuff coming out of them are incredible. And everywhere you look there are like water towers or abandoned or broken or disheveled buildings. I'd never recommend coming here.
That being said, I had a great time!
Peter took me to the fanciest restaurant in all of Appleton. Then we went to some bars and played darts (i got my butt kicked). During the rest of the weekend among other things I got a tour of lawrence university (talk about a small school!!!) and I played skee ball, ping pong, and went swimming at oddly the most busy pool at 11pm at night. wtf. For a small town in the middle of nowhere i had a lot of fun, but i'd say it was 99% the company.

Parallels
Did anyone else notice the parallel between the mac/pc rivalry commercials and the obama/mccain rivalry commercials?
Mac vs PC...Mac is portrayed as the "cooler" younger guy with all these benefits, and its also innovative, new, and different, while the PC is the same old that we've had around for years, and it has so many problems that people are ready for a change?
As an attempted (lame) rebuttal PC has come out with a series of commercials showing the average person from around the world saying "i'm a pc" in an attempt to relate to people/.
Obama vs Mccain... There is no denying that Obama is younger, and if you've been around the past couple of months you are aware that Obama is the change people are (hopefully) looking for, and mccain is very similar to the last 8 years.
ok, none of this is new, just stick with me
Last night I was watching TV and I saw one of mccain's new commercials in an attempt to make his point and relate to people where he shows people across the country saying "i'm joe the plumber" .
LAME attempt John. We arent stupid, You are that out dated PC noone wants either.

The weekend
Friday night I went to dinner with Joe, Will, Kate, and friends, walked in the bar, turned around and there was mike, my elementary school friend in town for the weekend! How random!
Then I played wing girl for Will which was fun b/c i have a favorite wing girl line which i stole and used "haaaaaaave you met will" (think how i met your mother's Barney)
Sat was quite the busy day too, First I went to Lila Blue's 1st birthday party! Everyone knows how much fun I have at those parties :) Then it was Diana's Wine and cheese party where we all dressed up and drank wine and ate cheese. great night!
Thats the abreviated summary of my weekend :)

Go Sox!
Wow, thats all I can say. Last night's game was AMAZING.
I was also amused that I had peter on the phone, and Coogan, Joey, Emily, Laura, Jessica, and Robbie all on IM up untill we won, bitting our nails, and hanging on for dear life. All jumping up and down and freaking out. What a stressful night

Just an idea
Do you think Wyclef Jean's song "gone till november" was a song he wrote to his girlfriend when he went to volunteer on a political campaign?

Long Weekend Fun
Sat Jen and I drove out to VA vineyards which was a lot of fun. We made it to five of them. Village, Corcran, Loudan, Hillsborough, and Breaux. I'd skip corcran in the future, but the rest were cute, and delish, and fun. I bought six bottles to take home!
Sunday I went apple picking with chirs, joe, kate, puja, and sunjeeve. We had a lot of fun, but there really werent many apples left, so we didnt pick too many which was good.
Monday...I dont even want to talk about monday baseball. It didnt happen.

Back at Work
Yesterday was Yom Kippur and I was home attoning for my sins....it took a while.
I'm back.
Ok so as you know i got a new hdtv. I think that the shows were never meant to be seen that large because all the actors, athletes, and politicians look crazy upclose and i can see every wrinkle and blemish. It just begs for me to nit pick at everyone's image. Like palin's fake hair, bidens odd teeth, mike lowell's neck stubble, blair waldorf's pimples.
Its all pretty funny though, and makes me feel good about myself

New Restaurant
Last night Annie and I decided to try the new Italian restaurant in courthouse. A couple months ago it replaced my favorite local falafel shop. Courthouse Bistro.
We decided it was cold out so we should sit inside...it smelled so bad inside that we changed our minds and ate outside.
They were so excited to have customers that like 10 people set up our table (not a good sign), then they brought out the bread and bread plates. The plates were so dirty that our napkins actually turned black wiping them off. The bread itself was extremely stale.
Then the waiter came out and was kinda sleezy. He kept pressuring us to order and was annoying saying things like "how much time do you need? 5min? 10 min? what?" GO AWAY.
The meal itself was fine, it was just something i could make at home, and frankly mine would be better.
So the restaurant gets bad reviews, but at least I had good company!

Odd Pairings
Last night I had to laugh at myself as I sat infront of the TV watching the Redsox beat the Angels while I quilted. I thought it sums up my life pretty well. Super girly activities with not typically girl activities. I break all the rules and i'm ok with that :)
Also goooooooooooo sox! Honestly i wasnt sure they'd make it this far, so i'm pretty excited. I'm also excited they won by 11:29 last night so I could go to sleep at a decent hour.

Fun Weekend
Friday night mike becky and I tried to go bowling, but after being told it was going to be a two hour wait, we decided to go to bar louie for the most random fun shots. Except the mint/apple/vanilla one...that was gross. I did have the best marshmallow martini. mmmmm
Sat was fun too b/c after sleeping all day, Emily and I went to a dc united/Chivas soccer/football game. It was a lot of fun and I got a new scarf out of it. United lost, but it was still fun.
Sunday was more sports. Julie, and I (with some of julie's friends) went to the Caps Bruins game, where the bruins won. yay!
So it was a busy and sports filled weekend. except the sox. I dont want to talk about that

Register
On a side note I realize i'm 26 and still have a giant crush on leo. its ok. Peter knows all about it. Leo is basically the only constant part of "my five". You'll probably hear about this again when he turns 34 in about a month :) I have a problem. I know.
Crazy Cars
So when I was in NC we rented a car from budget because it seemed like it would be the cheapest place.
First off let me say that my first plane got delayed, and left me 15 minutes to run through the charlotte airport to my second flight. So by the time i reached asheville i was just happy to be there. So when the budget car place told me it would be a while, i just didnt care.
After 2 minutes the budget guy changed his mind. "if you dont mind taking the car the last lady brought in without me cleaning it I can give it right to you"
What do I care, fine.
He prints up my order grabs the key and then says "i'm going to pretend you hurt your back and need me to bring the car around to you so I can go on a smoke break". Again, I could care less, but this way i dont have to find the car, whatever. he then added "its a chick car, you'll like it"
I go and stand at the car pick up, and this sporty silver little bullet comes racing by me, screeches to a halt, and then revs its engine, and quickly reverses to me. The doors fly open to blasting hot 99.5 type music with the base literally as high as it goes.
This Mitsubishi Eclipse was my car.
He packs me in the car and points out the sub woofers and v6 engine and warns me that it WILL get away from me.
Awesome. so this is north carolina.

Its only a month and 10 day
I knew this day was coming, but still i wasnt ready for it.
at 5am this morning i was woken up by the taxi calling to say it was here. Ready to take Peter to the airport so he can get to Siberia (wisconsin) for the next month and 10 days to campaign.
Its going to be hard from spending every moment of every day with someone for a year and a half, then spending a month and 10 days without them.
So if you are in the area and looking for something to do give me a call and entertain me.
I hate politics so much. I also hate wisconsin (but thats been in the works since my days in ft atkinson)

Back From North Carolina
Well I'm back from North Carolina.
First off, Happy New Years
So North Carolina was fun, Rachael's wedding was beautiful! It was in this cute barn on the biltmore estate. To no surprise Rachael looked stunning, and I had fun dressing up for a black tie wedding.
We went to the arboretum and the blue ridge parkway and i took a zillion photos.
My one regret is that I didnt get to try sonic while i was there :( i guess i'll have to try it another time

Gone to (north) carolina in my mind...i mean tomorrow
Thats right, Tomorrow I leave to further explore this great country of ours. North Carolina for Rachael's wedding! I fly out in the morning and get to spend the day with Rachael and crew, and peter joins by the evening. Should be a great weekend!
The best part is that I have a new dress that I cant wait to wear. Its a black tie optional wedding, so I went over to the fancy side and I love it. Actually I bought THREE dresses as options, so if you have any formal events you need a date for, i'm sure peter will understand.

They Do Exist!
Yesterday it happened, I met my first Sarah Palin Fan. He even works with me and is incredibly smart (in all other respects). (ok so i didnt "meet him" i just found out he was one)
I'm not going to dis on him because he is my friend, I just think its interesting that she has been in the spotlight for a while now and untill yesterday i had not met a single person who sees her as anything other than a joke. I email with friends, co workers, and family members on a daily basis that funny and ridiculous new fact about sarah.
It says something about the circle I run in, and i cant say i'm upset about this.

End of the season
Its been an up and down season, and with 6 more home games left and 2.5 games behind in the division and 1st for the wild card I've already begun getting excited for the post season.
I'm not as excited as in previous years. Not because I'm jaded and the world series no longer phases me. Because if we got that far I'd be exstatic! But more because Part of me feels like we might not get very far in the post season.
So Get out all your redsox gear, cheer as loud as you can, and get excited for another post season!

Proof
Last night Peter myself and my mom went to Proof for dinner. I had never been there before and only seen the menu online. It was awesome.
My meal was great, but my favorite part was the cheese sampler plate. We got one goat, one sheep, and one cow, and all three were spectacular. I cant wait to go back and try some of thier other cheeses. Its such a great idea to get a small little cheese sampler plate and share with the table. Anyone want to go with me?

I dont even know
today I was driving down 295 kinda stuck in traffic when I hear a honk. I look up, and sure enough its the pickup truck directly to the right of me with an older gentleman driving. Then I notice he is holding a hand written sign that reads "Pretty Lady". I smiled, changed lanes, and drove off.

The Force Unleashed
Peter gets excited for all sorts of lame fighting wii games, not to mention he'd rather I have an xbox. So I always tell him if he wants to play those games he can buy them himself. A game finally came out worthy of him buying.
The Force Unleashed. Thats right, the new star wars game that takes advantage of the wii controller so you can slash people like you are using a light saber!! Its kinda awesome.
We played for a couple of hours last night first doing a duel (peter won 4 out of 6 deuls). And then we played game mode. The story is pretty good, and I was decent for my first try. Unfortunately on 50 inches you really feel like you are in the game, and after two hours I became motion sick and had to stop playing for the night.
Its kinda like those bond games everyone use to be obsessed with and also kinda like wolfenstein, that super old computer game that use to be awesome (but also made me motion sick). Its also cool because when you start the game you are Darth Vader, and we all know i have a crush on him. Then you become his apprentice. Its dark and awesome.
I'll give it another try though, dont worry :)

How did it get so hot?
Seriously! It was a fun weekend though. Friday night we went out to bricskeller with chris and his brother. I always forget how terrible that place is, its hot and they NEVER have the beers I want, or even my first 3 choices. This time they didnt even have similar beers. wtf. This is your schtick. Maybe you should stock up for weekends.
Sat was the Orbital company picnic so we went out to sandy point. The food sucked, but it was fun to meet everyone's family. Then we continued over the bridge to see the Criss crew. I got a full tour of the boys room, and I must say, i'm jealous. Their toys are way cooler than mine. Then we went to dinner and a movie with Charlotte and Levi. We saw burn after reading. This was my first Cohen brothers movie in full (part of the big lebowski on the bus to Atlantic city doesn't count). It was hilarious! Brad and George reached outside of their usual roles and were awesome. I sat between peter and charlotte and the two of them were the loudest laughers, and there were points when they were the only ones laughing, so that made it even more enjoyable for me, I was amused.
Did anyone else see it?

I have too much stuff
If you've been lucky enough to see my apt past or present you know that even with my new storage unit I have too much stuff and just enough space in this apt for me...well last night's task was to change that and empty some space, maybe some drawers and some hanging space. Yeah.....i took one look and decided to watch tv instead. Just kidding, sorta. I watched tv and napped on the couch and then finally worked up just a little bit of energy to start in the bedroom. I need help in the form of a giant trash can to throw everything away (i dont mean that).

Dreams are weird
I had such a strange dream last night, I was at work late and suddenly the whole office is still there so we all go out for a 11pm dinner, and then i go home to bed but my bed is in an airplane, and while in the airplane there is a giant earthquake which we can feel in the air, and i look out the window and all the buildings are shaking and crumbling. So we make an emergency landing on some random street in some random neighborhood, and I go outside and its snowing. Then i wake up 3 minutes before my alarm clock goes off.
This is a pretty normal night for me. I have weird dreams.

Packers in 50 inches
Last night Peter invited Tbone and big baby bare over to watch the packers game on my new tv. This was the first time visitors got to see the TV. They were impressed.
I made us 5 layer dip, spinach pie, and brownie pizza which I think everyone enjoyed.
My main attention (as was everyone else's) was on the New GreenBay Starting QB Aaron Rogers. He didnt dissapoint. It got a little hairy at the end, but the packers pulled through.
Anyway here is what I've decided about Aaron, and maybe later i'll illustrate it with pictures He looks like a cross of Jake Gyllenhall (mainly the eyes), and BJ Novak. It was really weird when i noticed this.

Weekend
Overall it was a pretty good weekend. Lots of parties. Lots of Football.
Well What i'm sure you are all expecting me to blog about is how Tom Brady is now out. That sucks. But i have nothing to say about it. We still won the game so lets hope the rest of the season goes well too and he gets better.
My Fantasy team also seems to suck this year. I still have tonight's game but i'm pretty sure I lost. I had stupid carson palmer getting me like .2 points or something terrible for a QB and then his counter part Chad Ocho Cinco. But i just picked up chris simms in hopes that he'll take tom brady's spot and win me lots.
I also finally saw dr strangelove. Wow was that a weird movie. I've now seen 3 kubrick movies and he's a weird dude. overall the movie was pretty good though.

Everyone leaves :(
This seems to be the season for people moving away. The other weekend we went to a going away party for one of Peter's teammates who is moving to mexico. Last night I went to Dan's going away hh before he moves to Colorado. Tomorrow I have Nate and Jenny's going away party before they move to California, and Kate's going away party before she moves to Mexico also.
This is sad :( hopefully at some point people will move back.

Tv Troubles again
So I have a TV in my bedroom, and really all i want in there is comedy central and the disney channel. neither of which i can get on that tv now that i have verizon.
The problem is that TV only goes up to channel 99. but with Verizon almost all chanels even not HD ones are up past 100. All i get is abc, nbc, fox etc. Channels 10-99 are all "local" stations. wtf. anyone know how i can get around that without having to get a cable box on that tv?

just not worth it
I discovered by accident last week that being aneorexic is just not an option i'd pick. I spent all of last week not eatting a single meal. litterally. I lost minimal weight, and just felt tired and sluggish the entire time. Sunday was my last meal and by wed i had lost 3 lbs. Do you realize how long i'd have to not eat to make a difference? Also you'd have to just keep not eatting to keep it off. this just isnt for me.

Back at work
after moping around for a week i'm back at work. I saw a lot of movies and tv this week including Paris Je T'aime which was weird. I also saw iron giant by accident but turns out that movie is really good! Then I saw Enchanted which was super cute, and lastly i saw 21 again.
I'm mostly better today but my mouth still kills, so maybe i'll try and find a dentist to go to today.

Do you miss me?
I just got fios. its AWESOME. i have like 800 channels. No hdtv disney channel yet, but i think i'll live. My internet is faster too, and the video conferencing works better. but the best part about fios? its NOT with comcast! goodbye jerks! Verizon people are so much nicer! Oh and they actually show up.
I was holding on to the new tv's box untill i saw my tv with hd tv and was sure i wanted to keep it, good news, this sucker is staying!

Flags of Our Fathers
Last night we watched flags of our fathers. A while ago i had seen letters from iwo jima and I had wanted to see the other half.
It was pretty good. The war scenes were hard to watch, and it was really depressing because you didnt have any strong war hero glorifying war. Instead you have these likeable men who dont want to be there, and dont want to be heros and are just forced to see the atrocity that is war. And the ones that die are the lucky ones because they dont have to live thier whole lives with this memory, and guilt.
I got really emotional watching this movie because i felt terrible for past and present soldiers having these horrible experiences. War sucks :(

The Wrong Night For The Red Sox
Peter and I went to Last night's redsox game at camden yards. Coincidentally chris sat a few sections away so that was cool. Other than that the game blew.
When I walked in orioles fans started yelling at me to go home. I ignored them. When we got to our seats there were more of the same. They were loud and obnoxious. Worse than that, the worst and stupidist redsox fans were sitting directly behind us. The old lady had never seen sunblock in her life, and the man wished he were a sports commentator so he tried to report the entire game, but didnt know what he was talking about. THEN two innings into the game they decided that although they were redsox fans they wanted the sox to either loose or the game to get rained out so they could go home. They sucked.
We lost, but coco made a nice over the wall play (didnt catch it though)
Oh well. Guess i'll have to wait for the sox to come back again

Wordle
So i'm obsessed with this new website. www.wordle.net You can input any text and modify it and make it kinda a cool picture. on my tumblr i posted ones i did with mr. roboto lyrics and one with the feed of this blog (http://rsoxrach.tumblr.com/) Ones I didnt post were the entire script of romeo and juliet, my resume, and Jessica's evite.
The way this works is it gets rid of common words like "the", then it counts how many times each word is used. The more frequently it is used the bigger it gets. I wasn't too surprised to see that my blog uses the word "like" very frequently. Oh well. Some habits you just cant kick. At least i'm not as bad as I was in middle school.

NYC Weekend Part 2
Saturday We woke up around noon and headed straight to brooklyn brewery. Some friends from home met us there (jlau and geller). They actually had skateboarded 12 miles that day, from 72nd street to the brooklyn bridge TWICE. Anyway, we took the brewery tour and then sat down in thier bar ordered pizza, and participated in the 6 beers for 20 dollars program. We tried almost all of thier varieties. My favorite was Pennant Ale (for the mets not the yankees).
After a brief nap and dinner we again met up with Jlau and Shields and Won at the bleeker street bar. it was ridiculously hot in there, so after michael phelps won his 8th gold medal i encouraged everyone to finnish thier last beer, close thier tabs, and move on to another bar.
We moved on to The Arrow where we met up with a displaced DCer (Ted and friends). What the hell is the deal with big buck hunter in every bar these days? We then moved on to some other bar whose name i didnt catch down by avenue A (clearly i sang the rent song in my head and also quietly to leslie).
At this point we decided it was time for mario kart so we stopped to pick up some beer and head to Won's apt. Did you know nyc sells beer at any hour? it was like 2am or something and we were able to purchase beer and gummy bears. awesome. Anyway we headed to Won's apt which was the most amazing apt i've seen. seriously. Full view of the NYC waterfront. beautiful at night.
After both leslie and i got our asses kicked at mario kart we decided it was time to call it a night.
I think i missed a lot of details from the night in this blog, but trust me, it was a fun night.

NYC Weekend part 1
So this weekend peter and I went different ways, he played a tournament in Siberia (wisconsin) and I headed to the Big Apple.
I'll split the post into 2 posts way too much happened over the weekend to write about everything.
First off I'd like to say that I am the greatest wing girl in the history of wing girls. I successfully helped TWO of my friends simultaneously on two separate floors of the bar!
Friday night we went to chelsea to meet up with some of my highschool friends. (emily, melissa, andreea and andreea's bf scott) Jlau and Geller came out too. It amused me greatly that we were in the meat packing district. Anyway at 1 am Leslie and I went to the rooftop to call tristan to wish her a happy birthday (since she was currently in central time so midnight to her). I dialed and it began ringing....before her voicemail came on two charming australian guys swooped in. I think my voicemail to tristan went something like "happy birthday, this is rachel, leslie would have said happy birthday too, but she's busy talking to a hot guy". Since they sounded like new zelanders I dubbed them Brett and Jermaine.
Anyway while i was wing girling and giving leslie space I pretended to text someone on my iphone when this guy came up to me with the bad attempt of the week
Guy: can I ask you a favor? can you show me your iphone artists a thru c?
Me: sure, but i havent fully uploaded all my songs yet since the phone is new
Guy: ok well A-C is lame what else do you have (scrolls through) Oooh Frank Sinatra?
Me: oh yeah, as time goes by, i'm on a casablanca kick since i recently saw it for the first time
Guy: Was it with your boyfriend
me: yeah
Guy: so this conversation is pretty much over isnt it?
Me: yeah
The bar closed and the Aussie guys put us in a limo and sent us home.
We got home and Leslie's roommate Laura gave us an impromptu concert at 4 am. She was soooo good. She gave me her demo cd and i'm totally obsessed with it. I cant wait for the full one to come out.
more tomorrow...

Tropic Thunder
Peter and I went to see tropic thunder last night with Jamie and Emily. We all liked the movie a lot. It was pretty funny.
The movie starts abruptly with a fake ad for booty sweat energy drink, and trailers. I didnt know what was going on till peter told me it was the movie.
I'll confess I had no idea what i was in for. I wasn't that excited and i hadn't read anything about it except how the mentally challenged people weren't pleased. I was only going because peter seemed excited. But I should have been excited because it was good.
Also there was a hilarious cameo, but i dont want to spoil it for you.
I probably wouldnt have cast Jack Black though. I mean i like him, but his character was kinda lame.
Also peter and i had pre bought our tickets at costco and saved like 3.50 per ticket! crazy!

Olympics again
Did any of you watch the Olympics last night? 1st Gymnastics is fun, but I really wanted the girls to beat china :( How old were those Chinese girls? They couldn't have been any older than 10. You could tell my the over use of sparkles and all the barrettes in their hair.
Also Michael Phelps is ridiculous! We watched it all, but the relay was just out of control. He gave the team such a start that they were like half a length ahead of anyone else the entire time. How can one athlete dominate a sport so much. Its just incredible to me.
Lastly I was looking on yahoo's olympic medal count page and it says "Official languages: (None)" Um, isnt English the official language? Well I double checked with wikipedia and it turns out they are right, we have no official language. So I guess people who criticize the non english speakers in this country dont have a whole lot to stand on on that front. who knew! Sure makes things more confusing though. I fell like they should work on making an official language.

50 inches of awesome
So yesterday Chris Emily and I rented a Zip Car (element) and got me a 50 inch plasma tv.
Basically its awesome.
Its funny because in the store we kept looking at it saying wow, who knew 50 inches was so small. So of course it didnt seem overwhelming at all and not at all too big for my little apartment. As you can imagine it looks ginormous in my place. It doesnt even fit into my entertainment unit. It doesnt look bad though. I'll get a new unit, and fios so I can get hdtv.
Anyone want to come over and watch tv with me? or play 50 inches of wii bowling ;)

I guess I'm getting into the Olympics
Leading up to the olympics I could care less about it. Its the summer olympics after all, and as far as olympic sports go I like Hockey and Figure skating, both winter sports. Oh and I guess I like gymnastics too.
Well friday night at Lindsay and Chris's awesome house warming party they had the games on in the background and the opening ceremonies were awesome!!! I didnt expect it at all. Maybe it was the sangria speaking, but I was impressed.
Then throughout the weekend any low key moment peter would turn on the olympics. I was getting fed up with how they were always showing qualifying swimming and none of the gymnastics.
Well sunday night I was all annoyed to be watching swimming, and it w as men's relay. I kinda wanted michael phelps to get another gold so i put up with it, when all of a sudden it got super interesting! That was the most exciting ending to any swimming race ever. I was pumped.

Football Season Begins Soon
A recent conversation with Leslie:
Leslie: college football season starts in 24 days!!!
share in my joy!!!
go colonials!
me: haha undefeated for life baby!
Well now its 22 days away. And the NFL preseason (for me) started last night. Now, we lost, and the whole game lacked a lot of energy, but it was still fun to order pizza and watch football. I look forward to a season of pizza, nachos, and 7 layer dip.
Check me out getting all excited for football. Disclaimer: I will only get excited for patriots games and occasionally redskins games and dont particularly want to watch just whoever is playing.

Check me out getting all excited for football. Disclaimer: I will only get excited for patriots games and occasionally redskins games and dont particularly want to watch just whoever is playing.

Pineapple Express
We went to see it last night, and I know most of you wont have seen it yet, so I wont include any spoilers. All I can say about this movie is that its hilarious! Also its very very violent, but not in a scary or gross way really for the most part. I think the best character was James Franco's Saul. He did a great job once I got past not seeing him as the Green Gobblin Jr. Did anyone else see it?

The Godfather
Last night Peter "made" me watch the Godfather since I have never seen it. There wasnt much forcing to do since i've always intended on seeing this movie, just never had a chance.
In my defense my tv in my living room is abnormally dark making it harder to watch movies, but here's how the movie went:
about 1.5 hours into the movie.....
Peter: How are you liking the movie so far?
Me: Pretty good, but i'm having a hard time following because all the guys look the same and I cant tell them apart.
Peter: You at least know who Al Pacino is though.
Me: What?! Al Pacino is in this movie?!?
To clarify I was able to follow the michael character without mixing him up, but it wasnt untill this point that i knew he was Al. besides ocean's 13 i've never seen a movie with him in it so its not totally strange i didnt recognize him.
Also I think James Caan was better in Elf. Fewer bullet holes.
Overall I liked it. We went to bed before finishing it and have like the last hour to watch tonight.

historic toilets and such
Saturday Peter and i went with Shields and Annie to fredricksburg VA. Once we hit the blue and grey highway we knew we were there. As you may recall we enjoy touring old battlefields so this cute little town was right up our alley.
We walked around town a little and then wandered over to the Chatham Mannor to see where the civil war hospital was. Clara Barton had played a big part at this hospital, which i enjoyed because i've always liked clara since i read a book about her in second grade.
In this house peter pointed out to me what I had thought was an ordinary leather chair. This chair had a mirror under it revealing its true identity (and the sign said so as well). It was a toilet. Then the sign then went on to said that George Washington, James Madison, Robert E Lee etc all "used this chair". hehehe i'm sooo mature

Garage Band
So with the new phone comes new ring tones. You may recall that once upon a time I had zeppelin's kashmir. Then I had the office theme song for most people, and europe's final count down, or pink floyd's wish you were here for a select few.
Well att doesnt seem to let you buy any of their ringtones for the iphone. It turns out that using Garage Band I can record my own song, either by my own musical talent or by importing a pre-existing song. Meaning any non encrypted real song.
So what did I do first? Clearly the most romantic song for one particular contact....Queen's Crazy little thing called love. I chose the 40 seconds
"it shakes all over like a jellyfish, i kinda like it, a crazy litle thing called love"
If you have any suggestions about what YOUR ringtone should be when you call me let me know.

just for the record...
annie hall is not original. Since my last movie post multiple people have contacted me in various ways.
Try watching a little movie called "the way we were" its the 1973 version of annie hall(1977)

Last night Jen and I met up on H street after work to try a new restaurant recommended to us by Sarah. I guess this is a chain she use to go to at VCU. The menu looked interesting so we thought we'd give it a try.
First off, the neighborhood in full daylight? sketchy!
The restaurant itself was really good! The food on the menu ranged from sushi to tots, so a little something for everyone. I fully enjoyed my meal which was interesting to say the least. I had peanut flavored noodles, and sushi with cream cheese and cucumbers wrapped in crushed wasaabi peas. delish. Anyway I recommend the restaurant. And all the wait staff was really nice.
I'm suddenly hungry again.

what do you do when you dont like what everyone else likes?
If you've been reading my blog then you know by now that I rarely follow main stream movie appreciations. Infact i'm so far the other way that i get made fun of a lot. I think the most obvious example from previous blogs was when I didnt like casino royale.
Well This weekend Peter and I realized that FYE (remember that store) has super sales on used movies. We are talking like 2 bucks for decent movies. On top of that its buy two get one free. So we combined forces and got a few. Well peter got 3 and I got 1. He got Annie Hall, MI3, and War of The Worlds. I got Music and Lyrics. (annie hall wasnt part of the deal for those of you doing the math)
I've seen MI3 before, and refused to see war of the worlds, so we sat down to watch Annie Hall. I was pretty excited to see this because i've heard such good things about it. Well, I hated it. Normally I hate woody allan movies so I dont know why i thought this would be different, but both Woody and Diane's characters grated on my nerves. And it wasnt romantic at all! i was told it was one of the greatest romantic comedies every. WTF, can someone tell me how its romantic??? It kind of reminded me of other movies i've seen and hated, like when harry met sally, and the way we were.
Peter felt kinda bad for making me watch a movie i disliked, so he agreed to sit through music and lyrics with me. It was so cute!!! I mean i can see how it was a terrible movie and super cheezey and bad etc. But you get to the end and i'm sitting there with a huge smile going "awwwwwwwww" as Hugh is singing to Drew. Now THATS a romantic comedy. Take a hike woody allen!

Iphone
Yeah, I'm late to work. so what? I'll be late tomorrow too! I went to TWO apple stores this morning. First i walked to the apple store in Clarendon just to get there at 8:10 and have all the phones sold out and a long line. Of course, with such a yuppie neighborhood it would be sold out. I went to starbucks on the way home to complete the yuppie image.
I then switched course and went to the apple store in the montgomry mall in bethesda. They had PLENTY. of course they needed me to switch around my plan and take 24 hours to process it. So i'll be stopping at that mall again on my way to work tomorrow. So dont expect a blog till about noon tomorrow either!

Weekend Footsteps
This was a pretty good weekend, but since i'm sure you are bored of hearing that i went to this bar, and got hit on by that guy etc I will focus on the most unusual part of the weekend. I walked TEN miles this weekend. I know, you are all shocked that I got out of my car and walked farther than to the metro stop. Of course it was broken up into three trips.
1. Saturday we went to Roosevelt island for a picknick lunch and a two or so mile walk. (this party i dont know exactly) It would have been 1.6 miles, but anytime we saw a sort of path that kinda looked walkable minus the log we had to climb over, peter thought it was a good idea to take that path. There was sooooooo much poison ivy that at one point we looked up and realized we were totally shaded by giant poison ivy leaves. Thank goodness I have no itches today. (pictures on my flickr site, but you have to ask for them)
2. After another fun night at the bars we decided it was a really nice night out and we'd attempt walking home and at some point we'd get in a cab and finnish the ride. Eventually, to my surprise, we made it all the way home! This one was 5 miles. I'll probably do that walk again sometimes, its a good way to get near the end of an evening.
3. Sunday morning we wanted to meet chris and annie for brunch, but annie was still sick so it was just us and chris. We walked to meet him at whitlows, but it wasnt over then, we continued on to the ballston mall to see stepbrothers without checking to make sure it was playing at that mall (it wasnt). that was 3 miles, we did NOT walk home.
Anyway I am going to try and walk more places now, its good for me, its good for the environment, and its fun. So we'll see what happens with that.
Happy Monday!

Birthday Recap
I had the best birthday yesterday. It started off relaxing at the pool, then my new camera and I went to the national cathedral gardens. Then peter took me out to dinner and accompanied me to mama mia (which he was not thrilled about).
Mama mia was......terrible. absolutely awful. But I loved it anyway. The movie was still fun, but if you havent seen the stage performance, chances are you wont like the movie.
as peter says, whoever made this movie HATES movies. The actual editing blew, and they were a little over eager with the slow mo function. Oh look she's happy lets show it in slow motion! Oh, now she's sad...slow motion again.
They had some other super cheezy effects.
The crowd was rolling with laughter every time pierce brosnan attempted to sing, and on top of that they ADDED an extra song just for pierce! wtf. Did the director honestly thing he was that good that he should get one more?
Anyway I had a good time, but it was clear that not a single guy in the theater liked it, while all the girls were dancing along with the songs.

Jim Henson's Fantastic World
Leslie and I went to go see Jim Henson's Fantastic world at the Smithsonian's African Art Museum. Well technically its not in that museum, but they are all connected and we ended up exiting through that museum which I thought was funny.
The exhibit showed Jim's work as it progressed starting with his theater posters at the university of maryland, through his tv commercials, his lesser known movies, and on to his various muppet creations. They had his scratch work that you can tell he never intended to be put in museums because half of them had like coffee stains and stuff or doodles on the side.
one of the best images they had was the original concept sketch of mhana-mhana

I think my favorite creation from Jim Henson is the song The Rainbow connection. Its so simple and sweet.
Anway, go visit the exhibit, you wont regret it.

Its Simple, Kill The Batman
before i attempt this blog, i admit that i can in no way do this movie justice. It was AMAZING. Stop reading if you havent seen it yet because this will contain spoilers
Likes:
1. Christian Bale, as always, is a very suave batman. Leslie and i had a fight over who has liked him longer she argued that she has liked him since little women, but I won in saying I liked him since Newsies (two years earlier)
2.Heath Ledger was amazing. Hands down the best villain ever portrayed. And no, i promise his death has nothing to do with how i feel about this. He really got into the role whole heartedly and was perfect for the part. so dark and twisted. He got every mannerisms fantastically in character. and most of my favorite lines and scenes were his.
3. I loved the idea about the two sides to everything, and whether or not people are inherently evil or good, and whether or not you can make someone turn bad. I love that batman is such a strongly good person, and at the same time harvy dent was morally weak and corruptible. Kinda like Luke Skywalker vs Annakin Skywalker
4. Gary Oldman was the perfect Lt Gordon. Pretty different character than the one we are use to seeing him in
5. Everything. (except what i'm about to write below)
Dislikes:
1. Batman's voice. that has to be enhanced in the sound room yet batman wears no voice changer. I didnt like this in batman begins either.
2. Rachel Dawson, while she has a kick ass first name, she is a very weak character. Neither Katie nor Maggie did a good job which leads me to believe it was just the part not the actress.
3. Scarecrow. He was bad enough to devote an entire movie to capturing so why did they take care of him in less than 5 minutes without even trying hard or putting up much of a fight? I mean I don't want them to dedicate too much more time to him, but at least make it hard. Also when the inmates are all on the boat together it would have been cool if he were on board trying to cause some trouble.

What a great weekend!
My friends are awesome! so thanks to everyone that made this such a fun weekend! A lot of DC friends came out, and even some NYC friends (leslie, and sarah) and also some far maryland people (chris, jessica, robbie, charlotte, levi, and todd) So i know you guys traveled really far so Thank you again!
Friday night was fun because we went to dinner at utopia which was pretty good, then to Joe's bday party then on to DC9. Its not often that I go out without peter, but we had a girls night which meant of course that lots of random people came up to chat/flirt/be awkward to us and it was hilarious. The best pick up line (and there were quite a few in the running) went to someone who hit on leslie.
Guy: Hey, see my friend over there (points to guy in white pants with white formal vest), well we are in a wedding coming up and we want to know if we should wear that outfit.
Leslie: No! stick with the traditional tux
Then sat....saturday was something awesome.
Kicked off with The Dark Knight (which deserves its own blog i'll write later this week). Then off to Rocket bar which is newly renovated and three times the size it use to be. New with skee ball and many other fun games.
towards the end of the night we started playing skee ball after they tried to call last call (which we took extra shots and promptly ignored). This random guy came up to watch us play. He was trying to hype some music act he was in (i dont know, but i have the flyer or ten of them). He stood there feeding quarters into the machine for leslie and peter to play as i watched and laughed. I then noticed he was wearing from his hip a 2 foot sword. WTF. Thats when i began to get worried. He came over to do the fist pound thing and laughed at me for doing it wimpy, i told him i didnt want to hurt him to which he responded by taking off his shirt and showing me all his gunshot wounds.....Time to leave the bar!
Then sunday was the muppets exhibit which i will also blog separately.
Do you think i got any sleep at all this weekend? no. but it was worth it.

Congressional Baseball Game
Last night I went with Peter and his office to the 47th congressional baseball game at nationals park. It was pretty amusing. After a close game, unfortunately the republicans won 11-10 :(
One weird thing i noticed was when this dude chip (i forget his last name)was on deck and practicing a few swings with his aluminum (or whatever metal) bat when it happened...he let go. The bat flew behind him and up two or three rows and knocked some republican in the crowd on the head. He went down. And stayed down. The medics came out, wrapped some bandages around his head and escorted him out. He walked out so I think he'll be fine, and I assume he was going to the hospital.

NASA and Iphones
Last night peter took me to a reception for the returning astronauts of sts-124. It was really cool and they even showed a breif video of thier trip which was super cool. It showed some angles that you dont usually see on the news including a segment called "stupid astronaut tricks" where they do things like eat floating m&m's or have the little guy pretend to hold the entire big guy above his head. I wish i were an astronaut.
Then i checked on line, like i do every night, to see which stores would have the iphone the next day. VA only had the white one in stock at ONE store. I decided to search the rest of the country and was shocked to find out how many stores wouldnt be carrying it almost a week after its release. it looks like i'm going to have to wait longer than i had thought :(

And I'm back!
Well i've returned from Cape Cod. It was a great and relaxing vacation, but way too short. I have lots of pictures if you ask for them.
Our return flight was delayed and I didnt get home till 3am sunday night, hence my sleeping way late last night and no post yesterday. I'm still tired!
On another note I have been trying really hard to find an iphone. The apple stores claim they get a shipment every day. This cant be true b/c at 9pm you can see the inventory for all the stores and they are all sold out for days to come. my other option is to pay now and get on the preorder waiting list through att who at one store alone has taken 200 pre orders. wtf. why is this so difficult. I hate waiting.
i'm very frustrated :(

did you ever notice how every one of thier signs says "doctor's associates" at the bottom. its simply the copyright for subway, but to anyone that doesnt know any better they might think its actually associated with doctors and must be healthy.

Crossed over into being old
In a conversation getting excited for the new batman movie
Me: I remember when the first movie came out
Co Worker: oh yeah? that was the year I was born.
Later that day recounting that story to another co worker he says
"you remember that? i was only two, i didnt realize you were that old"
Yep, i'm an old lady, and getting older by the minute. Only about two weeks before its official (yes we all know how much i love my birthday)
Me: I remember when the first movie came out
Co Worker: oh yeah? that was the year I was born.

4th of July Weekend
For the 4th a few of us went to Chris's house in baltimore where he has a great view from his rooftop.
I'd say the higlight of the night was when Peter all of a sudden alerts the entire rooftop party that someone has just pushed a girl down and then flashed us. At this point everyone stopped watching the fireworks and watched them. They stopped fighting with eachother and started heckling us. We have no idea what they were saying, but they sure were pissed. They even stopped and just glared at us for a while. Funny thing is that our door was open and really they could have just walked in.
Anyway the first person flashed us a few more times. We still arent clear what gender that person may be, and realized its most likely a tranny.

i'll tell you what i want, what i really really want
the spice girls circa 1999.
I went to the victoria's secret semi annual sale like I always do in search of new bras, undies, nighties, etc. I love victoria's secret.
What i found, i certainly was not expecting. The spice girls Greatest Hits. I saw it from across the room, and I told myself if it was under 5 bucks i'd buy it. I walked over....4.99! sweet! So clearly i had to buy it. I never bought any of thier cd's after spice world so i figured this might have a bunch of other songs that i didnt have. I was wrong. Its mainly spice world with maybe 2 additional songs. its alright though, i dont regret my purchase

Fun weekend
the highlights of my weekend might lead one to believe i was 5 or had a child, but neither are true.
Friday I kicked off the weekend Celebrating birthdays with the Criss Crew at Pump it up, a moon bounce haven where even adults could bounce. The obstacle course was harder than i thought it would be considering the spaces to crawl between were made for someone half my size.
Sat I went to the national mall to see the exhibit on NASA. it was alright, but clearly directed at younger kids :(
Sat night I saw Wall*e. It was AWESOME. You should all go see it. There wasnt a single little kid in the theater when I went and I'm pretty sure everyone in there loved it. Good story, cute romance, great message, good animation, awesome space, etc etc etc. go watch it :)

Michel Gondry
The other day I was listening to Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer over the sound system in the goddard gift store. it was stuck in my head for two days straight, and then when it finally got out I read the following pictorial article which, got the song back in my head.
http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20208853,00.html
Michel Gondry is kinda awesome. Not only did he create some pretty kick ass movies and videos, but it turns out he's pretty funny too. I like his commentary on the above videos. Its quite a collection of videos too.
Alas, i'm not alone in thinking he's awesome :( http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/02/17/68-michel-gondry/

why target is an awesome store
Last night I bought a nerf football, and boggle.
The nerf football is b/c i'm getting a little tired of playing frisbee and getting hurt when i catch it, or even worse i'm getting embarassed about how i can never throw it in the direction i intend. The nerf football changes all of that. It doesnt hurt, and i'm pretty good at throwing it straight.
Boggle was fun yet disappointing at the same time. The grid was 4x4 instead of 5x5. Are kids getting dumber? do they need this game to be made easier? Also the game itself is more cheap now. The indentations dont really hold the blocks making it harder for them to fall into place. Oh well, still fun :)

The Red Album
Since Eric thinks i'm basically the coolest person ever he gave me a copy of the new self titled Weezer album....the red one.
Basically its really awesome. I love the way they are just like yeah, we are good, whats up? Also they fully admit lyrically that they are old as anything.
Pork and Beans is on my summer 08 mix so far. Of course its pretty lonely on that play list with The new Coldplay song and an old foo fighters cover i just found (baker street). So if you have any suggestions what I should add to this mix i'm all ears. I was thinking of one metro station song b/c who doesnt like a little Billy Ray Cyrus offspring in their music selection.
In summary. Buy the new weezer cd. Also Eric is pretty rad, so thanks.

Show Time Dissapoints
Last year when weeds returned they premiered Californication right after it. I loved it. Partially b/c for the first time in my life i have a crush on david duchovny (i know, kinda a decade late for the trends).
So this year I decided to give the "secret diary of a call girl" a chance. It sounds like it has some potential. Instead it sucks and is boring.

Denver: Where beer flows like wine
well I'm back from three days in mile high city. Made it to two microbreweries, gave one presentation, and went to one baseball game. I'd say it was an action packed 3 days.
I got back just in time to go to Chris's brewing birthday on sat at shanendoah breweries where we got to brew our own honey heffenwizen. Lots of fun.
(pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59587601@N00/sets/72157605753269410/)
In a few weeks we can go pick up our beer. hopefully we didnt f'it up and it tastes yummy! The pre fermented stuff tastes terrible.

Weeds is back!
and its starting tonight! Peter is out tonight so i'm just doing what I do best, TV and cooking :) The pie (red fruit tart to be excact) is in the oven and now i'm eagerly anticipating a wonderful new season of weeds!!!
You have no idea how excited I am.
Mary Louise Parker is way cute, and I basically love everyone on this show, even whichever olsson twin is on it.
If you know whats good for you netflix the first three seasons and watch this season. Especially if you want to join in conversation with me for the next few months.

The Incredible Hulk
We saw the hulk this weekend. It was alright. I think if it hadn't come out the same summer as Iron man it would have been good for a super hero movie, but it doesn't even hold a candle to Iron man. Liv Tyler was good, but Gwennyth was better, Edward Norton was alright but Robert Downy Jr was A zillion times better.
I'm excited for the future in marvel super heroes. Evidently Leonardo Dicaprio is an option for Captain America, and that makes me very excited! Maybe captain America can Join Iron Man in the ranks of greatest super hero movies ever (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/marvel-wants-a-titanic-star-for-captain-america-4837)

Plays for free Doogie Howser episodes
You are welcome
Oh yeah it has other shows too (basically its awesome)
last night i started with 1989's greatest. season 1 episode 1. when i watched these back in 1989 doogie seemed so old and i couldnt quite grasp how absurd it was for him to be a dr....16 is pretty old after all to an 7 year old...actually its unclear why my parents let me watch anyway. He is so young! how did this ever seem like a good show? but it is! its totaly ridiculous and there are some awesome ultra cheesy scenes that had me laughing pretty hard, but i dont think those were the intended comedic parts.

Who knew tomatoes were such a major part of my diet!
It seems that all of Greenbelt md has ban tomatoes due to the recent salmonella outbreak. So first I tried subway, Bread, lettuce, cheese, olives, pickles and mustard.....kinda boring without the tomato it turns out.
Next was wendy's. There i have to order the salads without the meat, so I got the tortilla salad without chili. They actually handed me without saying that it was this plain, a bowl of lettuce with like 10 shreds of cheese on top. To make it up to myself i bought one of those new chocolate hand swirled frosties. it was yummy.
Lets hope this tomato scare ends soon otherwise i'm gonna starve!

Team B.O.O.B. Races again
Team B.O.O.B. completed its second annual race for the cure to raise money for breast cancer research and treatment. We raised between 600 and 700 dollars. Thanks to everyone that came out and supported our team. Cant wait till next year!

Another one bites the dust
first it was the chesapeak bagel place, then it was the restructuring of safeway sandwiches which did away with all veggie options, and now its the greenway center liquor store's sandwich shop.
Lunch options are dwindling and it sucks :(

Jim my coworker is AWESOME
He found two wii fits and bought one for me and one for him! Tomorrow I'll get the fit and be able to try it out asap. All i know is that tomorrow is going to be a long day at work knowing all day that i have my fit waiting for me :)
The search for the Wii Fit
I really want the Wii fit, but I just cant find it anywhere.
Before it even went on sale i went to the store and they were already sold out! Everywhere online they are sold out, and when i go to the store to ask if by chance they have any people just laugh at me :( its kinda sad.
I finally located some at walmart waaaaaaaay in the boonies, so now i have to find a time hopefully soon to drive out there and hunt it down.
if you see any wii fits in the store do not hesitate to text me and give me the location so i can go get one

502 almost hit me!!
yes, thats right. manny ramirez's 502nd home run flew directly at me and was caught a few rows in front of me.
Unfortunately jacoby stole no bases, and Terry francona left okajima in one batter too long and we lost :(
My personal favorite moment of the game is when i got to my seats in center field, and realized there was no scoreboard to be seen, no jumbotron to show me who the players are, and no info screen to tell me who is at bat since it was all directly above me. I looked out and the sox were up at bat. I could barely make out the figure, but I knew, it was manny, I knew the baggy clothes, the dreads, the strong swing. The sox took the field, and again, without being close enough to see faces or read the jersey i knew who almost every player on the field was by recognition of their body type/image/position. I was very proud of myself :)

Red Sox
Tonight I am going to the Red sox orioles game at Camden yards. I am a little disappointed that I missed Manny's 500, but its alright.
If you are an avid reader of my blog you know that I really like Jacoby Ellsbury. Worlds fastest human. Seriously. He could probably give a jaguar a good race. Anyway, he has stolen i think 27 bases so far this season, and 37 in his career. Its ridiculous. Lately he's been upping the game with about 3 stolen bases a game, which if he continues at that rate he will get about 80 stolen bases this season! Clearly i know that he probably will end up with more like 50, but its possible that he'll break all sorts of records on this. Keep an eye on that guy! Redsox's record was set in 1973 by tommy harper with 54 bases in a season...unfortunately Ricky Henderson has set the record in 1982 with 130 stolen bases in a season, and 1,406 in his career. Its jacoby's rookie year though, so he has time to break that record too.
Also Chris saabye saw many of the players in baltimore this weekend. Maybe I'll post one of his pictures later of mike lowell. The funny thing is that evidently Chris's mom asked Papelbon to take his picture with her and he said no!!! wtf. oh well.

The Holiday
I saw the Holiday last night. I had been meaning to see it for a while, but never got around to it.
I loved it. I mean it was incredibly cheezy and some scenes had me rolling my eyes, but overall it was great!
I probably would have recast cameron diaz though. she was the weakest part of the movie. The other thing is that some scenes had me thinking Jack Black was great, but others when they tried to play him more sensitive didnt quite work as well.
The movie wasnt as much a romantic comedy as I expected, and more just about the women with the men as supporting actors which was a nice twist. I highly recommend this movie. Although just for girls really. Peter watched with me cuse he's nice like that and I dont think he really saw past the cheezy parts and was rolling his eyes the whole movie. Oh well.

I'm Gellin
As most of you know my shoe of choice right now is the oh so trendy Tory Burch ballet flat. I totally wore out my last pair, and in doing so managed to hurt my heal to the point where any flats without lots of cushioning hurt my feet a lot. Infact lately i've been wearing a lot of my sneakers which looks so hot.
Well I just got new tory burch shoes and solved the problem with some handy dandy dr shols heal inserts! it does the trick, and my heals thank me! I think i might go back to cvs and invest in lots more of these and just line every shoe i own with this stuff.

Ocean City is something else
This long weekend I went to Ocean City to enjoy some fun in the sun. I had never been there before so I didnt know what i was in for....
The beach was great. We basically spent all of the days on the beach. Unfortunately one of those days I fell asleep, and am now kinda burnt.
The first night we went to the boardwalk...that was interesting, lets just say people watching was fun. i wouldnt recomend going back to that boardwalk. if you need a boardwalk go to wildwood, atlantic city, asbery park...anywhere else basically. And if you want rides and games specifically go to a county fair instead.
The next night redeemed itself with secrets. I had heard about this place for a while in all its awesomeness and couldnt wait to see for myself. We got there while the sun was still up and it was kinda cute, sand everywhere, ocean front view, outside dining. Great place to be on a warm summer night. After sunset were the fireworks which were awesome. it was run by mahcine and not human so there was like this cool rapid fire part that i'd never seen before. I like fireworks. Then it came time for the dance club stuff. That was pretty fun untill about midnight when it started to smell.
We left and went to finnigans where the boys played pool and the girls were mezmerized by one pop and lock type dancer guy. incredible. how does he move like that??? i cant do it.
During any down time back at the condo the G4 channel had a marathon of "unbeatable banzuke" which was the weirdest gameshow ever (http://dethroner.com/2008/02/04/unbeatable-banzuke-g4s-latest-weird-japanese-game-show/)
On the way home peter and i even got to stop and have a nice dinner on the water with Charlotte and Levi.
All in all it was a great weekend!

Inner City Pressure (white water rafting)
White water rafting part 3-Video came with lame music, and other people we dont know…Thanks to Nate for fixing this. Its long so I suggest just watching the last minute or so. Leslie, you’ll appreciate the song. Somehow out of the 20 people on the trip I get credited as “the snuggler”. Great special Guest too at the very very end
I think there's more to this hobbit than meets the eye
Two days ago I got an IM from Charlotte with a link saying "you and peter NEED to go to this". The link sent me to the wolf trap page for a screening of Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring with a live symphony orchestra.
She was right. We had to go. and we did.
It was awesome! We brought a picnic and a blanket and watched lotr under the stars. The music was great. It was just a little bit embellished version of the real sound track. The conductor i think was the same guy that conducted the actual soundtrack and won an academy award for it, Howard Shore. They even had a choir.
It was a great evening. Thanks for telling us about it Charlotte!
Of course it was FREEZING. I had to buy an extra blanket and some warm socks. but it was worth it :)

Zoo Days
Peter and I went to the Zoo this weekend. It was so incredibly crowded that it was slightly ridiculous.
my favorite part was the tigers. they are SO cute. The runner up was the panda. Both of with i wanted to jump the fence and cuddle.
Unlike last year peter didnt make me go into the reptile house. I think he learned his lesson when i freaked out and ran away.
I'm so mature that I took a picture of two rat like animals doing it...it amused me :) The photo can be seen on my tumblr (http://rsoxrach.tumblr.com/)

Unlike last year peter didnt make me go into the reptile house. I think he learned his lesson when i freaked out and ran away.

Randomness to start off the week
Last night Joe and I went out to see Eric's new musical act "Banjolina Jolie". They were pretty good, and definitely a lot better than I expected. My favorite being a cover of William Shatner's Common people which you may recall is from the CD that my officemate and I are obsessed with. My second favorite was harvey danger's flagpole sitta b/c I love that song and was just torturing peter with that song on sunday...not by playing it, just by singing it. I think he now hates that song. oh well.
Later in the night P and i went home to watch last week's lost. Do any of you watch that show? Joey I know you do. I feel like they are ramping up for the end a little too soon. They have two more years right? Dont get me wrong, i thought it was a really good episode. Its just funny that as soon as I get hooked they start wrapping up stuff.

Goody's
Saturday night Tristan had two friends in town so her and mike and peter and i went out with them to open city then brass monkey. Mike had a headache, but unfortunately none of us had brought advil with us, so tristan's friend katie took it upon herself to ask around the bar hoping someone else had brought advil. She came back a few minutes later with a packet of orange flavored powder. We checked out the packaging for him and it was ibprofen, acetomynafin, and caffine, and it was made in the US (tn) so it couldnt be that bad right? Mike gave it a try.
Evidently it worked wonders in a matter of minutes, so now i'm going to try and seek it out and use it myself.

Fun times in my apt
Last night I started my evening by buying Wii Super Smash Brothers and a bottle of vodka. How could my night turn out bad?
Overall I liked smash brothers but my main complaint is that it really doesnt make use of the wii controllers and sometimes you get stuck in the game because you cant figure out how to back out to the menu. I cant wait till next wed to buy the Wii fit, wish me luck finding one!
also if you have a wii and a recomendation as to what games i should buy next let me know

Indiana Jones and the last Cruisade
Ok so I finally watched the last movie.
I think i liked this one the best. I think its mainly because I always like a little grail story. I could have done without most of the action/fight/chase scenes. I really just like a lot of plot in my movies and not really that much violence.
Also, Indy is kinda a wimp. He is shown not being afraid of snakes at all in one scene, then he falls into a basket of them and comes out totally unharmed...if anything dont you think that would make him less afraid of snakes? (in my defense i started off afraid of snakes, so falling in a pit of snakes....well lets not think about that). And the scar on his chin? he gave it to himself? lame.
I'd like to modify my earlier statement where I claim I always like a little grail story, this ALWAYS exlcudes monty python and the holy grail. I didnt like that movie.
All in all I liked this movie, but I dont think i'd be too eager to watch it again.
I will however watch the newest one, but thats partially because i dont think I have any say in that matter.
OH also watching the credits there was someone named Alison Doody, and someone else named Dick Dova (get it? if you say it it sounds like dicked over).
