Two Quick Stories

1. I went to CPK with laura and katie last night and they decided to get red wine so after asking to taste two to help decide they were informed that he didnt even bring out what they asked for, but instead a more expensive one (of course). He corrected it, and they decided on one. They asked for "one glass each". "One?" he said. 5 minutes later he showed up with ONE glass of wine for them to share. Laura quickly said "can we have another glass of wine? we each wanted one". He came back a few minutes later with an EMPTY glass so that they could split the first glass. I kid you not. eventually he figured it out and they each got a full glass of wine.

2. I got home to find peter cooking himself dinner and watching tv so i went into the living room to sit down and watch seeing that sports was on but not really realizing what sports. Peter quickly goes "look what I found on tv? isnt that cool" uh oh...so i looked again and sure enough it was Ultimate Frisbee. "Thats really not that cool" I said. Then he confessed "actually its just my dvd". So yes, we sat down and watched pre recorded 1999 ultimate frisbee championship game of sorts. wtf. who does that ;) Go boston? (they won by the way)

Fingerprints and such

I finally got a full badge for Goddard today (well the sorta full one until my real full one arrives in a week or two). They took THREE pictures of me and finger printed me. Thats where i'm going with this.

Five years ago (maybe 6, i cant remember) when I worked at the DOT I had to be finger printed on my first day of work. They had this "high tech" invisible ink that they used and then baked the paper i put the finger prints on and it showed up, but my fingers stayed clean! Miraculous! The problem was that somehow I have the weakest almost non existent finger prints. I had to let them bake like 3 or 4 sets of my finger prints and nothing showed up on certain fingers. By this time there was too much invisible ink (or so they said, i couldnt see it) to make any proper finger prints and i'd have to come back the next day to continue. I came back the next day and after some work finally got a decent set.

Well today at the badging appointment they attempted to fingerprint me again. I warned them about my wimpy finger prints and they just thought i was ridiculous. They took out their finger printing machine with a green glowing light, the days of invisible ink are over. I got each finger by at least the second try, and while the lady admitted my finger prints were light, they were working. Then came time for the four fingers at a time. This one took 5 or 6 tries. And then the second machine verification of the pointer fingers she actually had to reset the machine because my finger prints werent picking up.

So the moral of the story is that I hope we as a society dont switch over to exclusively finger print security (like that gym in dupont) because I'd fail at life.

One cool thing that i've known since 3rd grade....I have a ying yang in one of my finger prints :) awesome.

The Oscars

Every year my friend Chris and I have a competition to see who can predict more Oscar winners. This was the sixth year in a row we have done this, and the sixth year he's won :( This year we had a lot of spectators too because Peter, Annie, and Rob came as well.

I was really glad that slumdog won as many as it did. such a good movie. I think i'll probably go buy the soundtrack at some point.

Although i like kate winslet, i really wanted Anne Hathaway to win for best actress. I dont know, I just did. Best supporting actor was a no brainer, and best actor I was very happy with.

I loved the girl from slum dog's dress as well as Anne Hathaway and Natalie portman. There were other pretty ones too, but without going through the pictures again thats what comes to mind.

WTF is with philip seymour hoffman's cap? Also sofia loren scares me.

Step Brothers

Last night, out of a lack of other options on demand Peter and I watched Step Brothers. (he wanted to watch a movie since he was sick).

To my surprise it was actually really funny. I found myself laughing during a good portion of the movie.

The plot itself was nothing special and rather dumb, but the movie knew that and didnt even focus on it. I recommend watching it if you are bored.

Best.Present.Ever

Peter knows what love is...and it is guitar hero III legends of rock. He got it for me and i've been rocking out pretty hard ever since.

If you are reading this blog and have no intentions of playing with me i'm pretty awesome. There is no one greater.

If, on the other hand, you'll probably see my skillz for yourself....well just keep in mind i've only had it two days and will most likely get better at some point.

If you live near me or happen to pass by or have a car and want to drive come on over and play with me!

I need new Pants part II

you may recall my blog last week talking about my attempt to salvage my pants by having two patches sewn into it. Well today I went to put on my jeans and i noticed a brand new giant hole in my upper left thigh. awesome. I think i may just retire these and go shopping this weekend for new pants.

Valentines Weekend

Peter and I took advantage of the long weekend and drove up to Cooperstown NY. It was a 6.5 hour drive, but totally worth it. Right from when we first drove in it was such a cute little town.

Sat we started off the day by going to the baseball hall of fame (the main attraction for the weekend). it was very interesting and very exciting to see the red sox memorabilia. My favorite was schilling's bloody sock. Don't worry, i took a picture.

Sat night we went to The Otesaga resort for dinner. Its closed for the weekend and opened just its ballroom for a special valentines day dinner. It was very cute. The food was AWESOME and they had live music which was very nice. The one odd thing was the singer...she kept talking about her unresolved father issues and eventually sang a song that summed up their relationship...The wind beneath my wings...it was awkward.

Sunday we went to the omegang and Cooperstown breweries. The omegang had really good beer. REALLY good. And the tour was cool b/c they were actually making stuff. We bought a lot there. The Cooperstown brewery was alright. The beer was only so so, then AFTER the tasting they took us on the tour where they casually mentioned that to clarify the beer they put in swim bladder EEEEEEEEEEW also making not vegetarian. wtf. I've been on MANY brewery tours and done my own fair amt of research, and i knew this existed but i was pretty sure legit breweries didn't do that anymore. On the plus side their bottling machine was really cool.

Monday we drove around the lake which was totally frozen and had ice fishers all along it. It was really pretty but time to leave town, so we continued out and went to Scranton for lunch with kelly. That was fun and we got to get a feel for the town where the office takes place :)

Fun weekend all around

He's Just Not That Into You

No, i'm not talking about my own situation :) I am talking about the movie.

Last night Tristan Becky and I went to go see it with mixed expectations. Katie and Laura sorta shrugged and said "well, its cute, but just ok" and sarah through leslie said it wasnt very good. But I had read the book, seen the sex in the city episode, and was excited for the movie anyway

Turns out It was pretty darn good. I mean...to the guys that read this blog, dont see it, you will hate it, but to the girls that read this go see it. Its cute, and kinda insightful. I like how they changed some things from the book to talk about how some girls are the exception to the rule but generally you are the rule.

I think its the type of movie i'll buy and watch on snow days and sick days or just days when i need a girly movie like love actually.

tailors

A few weeks ago i was complaining to leslie that my nice jeans have two holes forming in them, one on the knee and one in the crotch. She had the same pair with the same holes, except she got them patched and they are fine now. Awesome, i'll just get mine patched too.

Disaster

The knee got a 7 inch patch so the fabric no longer bends when i walk, so if you look at my knee it looks like there is some sort of knee pad inside my pants. awesome. also the place where the hole was they didnt even match the thread color when they sewed back and forth over it.

The crotch patch is sewn on 3 of the 4 sides which means that one side is already peeling off, and there is some sort of itchy material sticking out of all the sides that scratches every time i take a step.

The icing on the cake was an added bonus. On my drive to work this morning i noticed a bump on my thigh that felt kinda sticky. when i got to work i went into the bathroom to see what it was. mint gum.

Thanks Georgetown valet in Clarendon. you managed to ruin a 200 dollar pair of jeans. word to the wise...DONT GO THERE.

Weekend a Day Late

So this weekend Leslie came to town because Will (the jerk that he is) is moving back to wisconsin.

The weekend was awesome, as it usually is when leslie and will are both around. but two things in particular were eventful.

1. Friday night we went to Duffy's and when that bar closed we decided it was time to go to Ben's Chili bowl (always a good idea). We walked down to U street and saw a zillion police cars and fire trucks and even an ambulance pulling away. We figured it was probably a U street gun violence incident. We kept walking to Ben's. We got closer and noticed that Solly's was f'ed up...was it a fire or something? no, there was no charring. We got even closer and...what is that? could it be? yes, it was a taxi cab lodged in the side of the building! I'd say i've never seen anything like it, except a few years ago i saw a taxi cab go into Mcfaddens. Makes you not want to get into Taxis huh?

2. After our sat evening with Mike, and tristan we decided to watch some casual TV. mike picked the "dog agility invatational" . We watched a little and then Nipper the dog came running out, and the announcer goes "here is nipper with his two time gold medalist handler" and I totally missed it b/c i thought they meant two time gold medalist in dog agility, but peter and leslie go "um...is that THE greg louganis?"

It was.

WTF. olympic diver turned Dog handler? I guess michael phelps should consider this as an option.

The Watchmen

Peter bought me the watchmen this weekend to read before the movie comes out.

I was already excited for the movie for two reasons
1. it looks awesome
2. the trailer kicked ass with the smashing pumpkins song matching up perfectly to everything. it rocked

I wasn't sure how it would go since i haven't read any comic books or graphic novels since middle school...high school at best.

I am one "chapter" into it and its AWESOME. I highly recommend everyone go out and read it.

No, i'm not a nerd for reading this and liking it, its legitimately good.

NYC Weekend

We packed a lot of fun into one little weekend.

The highlight of the weekend was sat night. Peter Leslie Sarah and I went to a latin restaurant and had many mojitos and chaiparinas before going to the Thermals show. The show was supposed to be a late show with doors opening at 11, so we got there a little late so we could just walk right in...turns out that was wishful thinking. The show before ours had run late and we got in line with everyone else. At least the place was nice and handed out hot chocolate and cookies, and we finally made it inside by about midnight.

The opening band was only so so, but then the thermals came out and the rocked it. Just as good as i remember :) high energy band with a fun show. I know leslie and i enjoyed it, and I think sarah and peter did as much as you can without knowing a band.

The superbowl last night was also surprisingly fun to watch! I figured i'd root for the cardinals but theyd get shut out and noone would care anyway. Turned into an exciting game with almost a suprise win! I just wish my boys were playing.
