oops

So for about a year now people have been complaining about the douchebaggery that is Late Night Shots, the invite only social network. Dcist has also been writting about the reality tv show they are making based on it.

This whole time i couldnt shake the feeling this sounded familiar, so I went back in my gmail and realized that thanks to Lindsay Mathers I actually have a profile up on that site. She invited me in Nov 2006, and for some reason I decided to sign up. So i guess i cant mock these people anymore because it turns out I am one of them...I guess i'm an unofficial db.

so if you want an invite let me know ;)

Ticketmaster's hidden words

You know how when you buy tickets on certain sites (like ticketmaster) they have the additional skewed word that you have to type in? Well they skew it so computers cant read it...but i'd say at least 50% of the time i cant read it either and have to have a second chance with new words. Its kinda sad.

Starbucks Failure

So yesterday evening all the starbucks closed to Re-Train all the employees. I think the only thing it did was un train the employees.

This morning I went with my new personalized starbucks card that declares that I am an "engineer extrodinaire" thanks to my dad. I've never had to repeat "ice grande skim chai" more times. Thats a pretty easy drink compared to what friends get. And then it took three tries to get my muffin. no joke.

Oh well, maybe it takes a day for the training to sink in.

Usually I wouldnt really care about how bad it is there, i just think its funny that its only hours after they got trained.

Stupid Pigeons

You might recall my pigeon problem last year? well they are back. I have one pigeon on each balcony perching on the light.

Peter insisted we get one of those scary owls to scare me and the pigeons.

So we set off for home depot. We walked in and announced to the lady working there "we have a pigeon problem".

"so do we" she replied. then laughed.

Awesome.

She led us to the scary owl section which was amidst a bunch of birds and even some pigeons and was covered in pigeon poop. clearly they dont work.

Onwards to marshall's garden section! We ended up buying two small bunny statues. These will be good for two reasons. First, we can put on one each light taking away the pigeon spot, and second both statues show bunnies stealing eggs so maybe it will scare the pigeons into not laying their eggs on my balcony again for fear of the bunny stealing them!

so far its working, we'll see if it lasts.

Rum, Rainforests, Casino, and Beaches...The makings of an awesome vacation

Well, I'm back from San Juan. And trying really hard to Wish myself back there.

The first day we got in and walked for about two hours down the beach to a nice restaurant, and then went to bed early since we had woken up at 5am. The only problem was that our room was only 2 floors directly above the live "san juan music", and it felt like our room was smack dab in the middle of the 9:30 club. The next morning we requested a room change. To our surprise we got moved to the club level suite with a ocean view and a sleep number bed and two luxurious rooms. I like sleep number 35 while Peter likes 45 but generally didn't seem to care anyway.

The next major thing we Did was go on a tour of the Bacardi factory. It was pretty cool, and came with two free drinks each, so i got to try the Bacardi flavors I had been wanting to try :) The factory is on this beautiful estate thing that you have to take a boat to get to so its really beautiful.

We then Rented a car and drove to the El Yunque rain forest. I figured we'd drive around and stop and get out and walk for like 15 minutes and then drive on...peter had another idea, and since Bacardi factory was what i chose, i felt like i should do what he wanted to do on this day...so we drove to one of the first stops. Got out, and Hiked up a 2 mile hill for 2 hours (very steep and rocky) and then hiked back down another 2 hours. My legs are still tired today. I must say, It was beautiful for most of the hike. Until the clouds rolled in and it rained. When we reached the summit it was so cloudy we could only see 10 ft in front of us. Thats ok b/c it was kinda cool to get rained on in the rain forest.

We spent the remainder of our trip split between the beach, shopping in old san juan, exploring the forts in old san juan, The Casinos, and sipping on pina coladas :)

It was an amazing vacation, and I'm sad to be back...and very burnt i might add.

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Leave a comment and let me know what you are doing for the day.

I get to try a new restaurant sette bello tonight (http://www.settebellorestaurant.com/) A couple weeks ago I checked out the menu and figured out what I want, so I wont have a disaster like the previously mentioned Thai restaurant.

Lets hope nothing comes up at work today and I get to leave a little early :)

Two days till San Juan on sat!

Thai Food is Dumb

I hate Thai food. I always have, and I always will. Lately I've been trying really hard to give it a chance. I found that I can usually find something on the menu that isnt very thai and that I can deal with. Like fried rice, or just a plate of veggies (although the sauce on the veggies is gross).

Well last night I got peer pressured into trying the green curry.

I hate spicy food.

We asked for it to be not spicy, and another veggie dish was ordered in case i didn't like mine. The only problem is that the other dish was Pad Thai...I hate Pad Thai. The noodles are gross and nasty.

Well not to my surprise at all the green curry was too spicy, and the pad thai was rubbery and nasty.

Next time I'm going with the rice.

Voting is lame

So Yesterday I nearly forgot to vote...that is until facebook reminded me before I left for work. So I walked across the street and got in line to vote. The line didnt look too bad, and it was only 8am so I should be in and out and on time to work, right? WRONG! The line moved about as slow as molasses in the winter in negative 12 degree weather.

I finally got near the front and saw the set up. There were 3 voting booths. Two registration tables, each with one person at it. And one guy just making sure everything was going smoothly. Well the one guy yelled in a loud booming voice to everyone as they came in "are you a democrat or a republican?". This slowed down the line because everyone had to stop and respond. Alternately they could have taped up a sign on each table so people could figure it out themselves.

There were no republicans, so everyone in line was waiting for one table, with one person registering. That meant only one person could vote at a time. What a disaster! I finally cast my vote and left over an hour after I had gotten there.

So much for getting to work on time.

White Boards

My boss has been giving me and my officemates a hard time about not having any white boards up so he cant draw diagrams to explain problems to us, so we finally got two posted in our office, but nothing on them yet.

One day I asked jim "will you draw me a stegosaurus?"...just randomly out of the blue (inspired by le petit prince's "dessine-moi un mouton s'il vous plait")...who knew that this was the exact right thing to ask him to draw. I have never seen a better stegosaurus! Clearly Jim has that problem that 8% of children have where they just cant stop drawing dinosaurs.

we decided to randomly ask other people to draw specific thing for us and its turned out awesome. We ended up with an additional Ewok, cape and all, with a shirt that said "ho's before bros", a pepsi machine, some birds, and some greenery so the dino and ewok could eat to survive.

Sometimes you gotta have fun with what you are given at work.

Success!

The Feb party was a lot of fun. We totally filled up grand central. Weather people were coming to see me, or for the 3 dollar drinks...I don't know, But thanks to anyone that came and made it as much fun as it was :) I'll try and post some pictures tonight or something so look out for it.

Also I attempted to test the limits of how many people could stay in my apt with NYC and Baltimore friends, but I think next time I can fit more :)

Mario Galaxy

We've beaten 12 levels in Mario Galaxy for Wii. That doesn't sound like a lot of levels, but it really is. Each level is super long, and when you feel like you've gotten to the end there is another section you have to pass.

The other part that makes it hard is that its such a new game that you cant just Google how to pass a level, you actually just have to figure it out on your own. Like SNES's mario world for example, you get stuck on a level? just Google it and there are 20 different explanations on how to pass.

Oh well, guess we will just have to beat it on our own.

I got Lost in Lost

Ok so due to peer pressure I am now a Lost watcher. I dont know how much I actually like it though. I havent watched any of the previous seasons, only the catch up episode.

I think i pretty much get whats going on so thats not an issue. what is an issue is how everything is spiritual or supernatural or something totally dis believable. Also there are all these random coincidences that dont really seem likely. Like one guy has spinal cancer and miraculously a spinal surgeon landed on the island. Sorry, I just dont buy any of this show. It is amusing though.

Do you guys watch it? Should I continue?

Well its better than Terminator...which i'm still watching...

Sad Puppy

Sometimes people say dumb things. Really dumb things that you just cant argue. So instead of trying I have decided to print out the following picture and use it in place of my argument.

Monday Randomness

I dont want to talk about the game last night.

Sat night we celebrated Marie's 30th birthday, mardi gras style. It was a lot of fun, but there were some really weird people at the bar. First i saw a girl actually jump up on a guy and hump him (total stranger) while dancing, then get on her knees and still while dancing mimic giving him a blow job.

Next some guy practically sat on me on a bench, so i scootched over last minute and he missed me. He left and then came back to try the same move again. This time Will noticed and alerted Jen to the situation. Jen came over and started dancing with me and said "excuse me" and the guy just goes "oh, i dont mind" and jen replies "but i do" and made him move over....seriously guy? if you are trying to get a girl dont try and sit on her.

Oh and even though I said i wouldnt talk about last night's game...here is one thing. Tom Petty rocks :) I cant wait till he comes back to town.
