Things I dont understand

I dont get why When you hire people to clean your apt, you end up cleaning intensely BEFORE they come. My cleaning people cannot do the dishes!

First, In their write up they are supposed to do the dishes by hand (which they dont do) and i've figured out why...they cannot for the life of them figure out how to use a dish washer. They stuff EVERYTHING in at once and dont rinse anything off so when i get home i have to unload half, and put them through again. This leaves me doing dishes before they get here.

Also they use the wrong chemicals on all the furniture, so things i care about (like my new table) i have to fully cover and put signs on to stay away.

I have a few other complaints here and there, but I guess i should be happy b/c they do the things i dont do like wash my floors, vaccuum the carpets, and wash the toilet.

Thats my rant. Its my love hate relationship with my cleaning ladies, and all cleaning ladies of the past and the future.

Busy Weekend

I had quite a busy weekend including 4 birthday celebrations and 1 going away thing.

I particularly enjoyed finally getting to try Russia house....and will probably never go back again. Don't get me wrong, it was tons of fun, its just that the evening quickly deteriorated after we left, and i think Russia house's drinks were to blame. My favorite was when mike and peter went to go get themselves another round of drinks, and they both come back with blueberry vodka. Well it amused me. Also, I tried sparkling red wine, i didn't even know that existed! it was pretty good though even though i don't drink red wine usually. I also enjoyed my sputnik martini :) Of course I'd order that.

Also, Diana and I saw house bunny on demand (clearly peter went out while we did this). The movie wasn't quite what I expected. I guess it never occurred to me that because Adam Sandler produced the movie it wouldn't be a chick flick. It was kinda an amusing movie, but I would have much preferred a girly comedy more than this. During most of the movie Diana and i were looking at each other like wtf is going on. oh well.

Basketball in DC

Last night, thanks to Lem, Peter and I had a wonderful night at the wizards/bobcats game. We had great seats and it surprisingly turned out to be an exciting game.

The first half didnt look so good. The bobcats were up by 20 pts. The most amazing part was that the cheerleaders who were standing in front of us made more noise with their pom poms than the entire rest of the crowd! you should never have been able to hear the little tinsle over a nba team's crowd. Also we were sitting right in front of one of the cheer leader's dad and she freakishly kept staring up our way.

At one point they had one of the players pre recorded on the jumbotron trying to help advertise season tickets. The player basically thanked the fans for helping them through hard games and being there even when things got really bad etc etc etc acknowledging that they are a terrible team this year. it was kinda sad. Also the season isnt over, maybe they should wait like 7 more games to say it was a bad season even if nothing is going to change.

Printers

at my new office they dont really have a communal printer, instead people just have their own in their office. Which means i havent been able to print since I got here. And since they are going to move everyone on the project to a new space soon once the mission before us goes up, they havent bothered to get us any printer.

Weird? yes

So today someone found a really old printer that they are lending to us till the move. I just installed it, and i was very amused to find out its the same model I got as a bat mitzvah gift when I was 13 years old. man this thing is old.

Weekend full of basketball

Sat night we had a few people over to watch the games. Lots of fun and sports food is the best as i've said many times before :)

Sunday we continued to watch more basketball and while one A-10 team got their ass kicked, another fought for it and stayed in. Goooooooo musketeers. Shhh let me have this one, its rare A-10 teams get this far. I spent so many hours of my life at the smith center that its fun seeing these teams go at least a little far. It would be a million times better if it were GW, but still.

We also saw I love you man...which if you didn't go see this weekend I highly recommend it. Its hilarious. I will go see any movie paul rudd or jason segal are in really, but both together? awesome. And Jason played a totally different character than he normally does and it was hilarious. Yet another movie i'm probably going to buy when it comes out on dvd. I dont want to ruin it or raise people's hopes too much so I wont say any more. But feel free to email me if you want to chat about it.

Happy Spring!

Hopefully this weekend it will start to feel like spring too :) I cannot wait till we get to eat dinner on our balcony overlooking people swimming, and maybe going for a dip myself. only a couple more months.

Leslie once blogged in her heyday (although she's gearing up again) about how her work was similar and equally amusing to the show the office if looked at right. Some days i feel the same way. Today is certainly one of them.

Safety week is coming up in early april, and they've posted GIANT posters with the week long schedule of events. I didnt think much of this till kevin, while waiting in the hall for some girl to walk by, actually took the time to read the sign. There it was.

April 7th....FORKLIFT RODEO. Clearly we are going to this. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sideways

We watched sideways last night. Costco was selling it for 4 bucks, so why not? I had heard good things, plus peter liked it.

We watched it.

It wasn't a total waste of time, and had one amusing part (on the golf course), but other than that i was bored and found it overly predictable. It fit the story formula they taught me in 2nd grade when we had to write short stories.

I don't know, I've never heard anything bad about it so maybe i'm special

Old Movies

Most of the time when you watch an old movie it never stands up to the hype you've heard for a while. Its usually dated and no longer viewed as good as it once was.

This weekend however, i saw rainman. It was just as good as i expected it to be! Super cute and sweet movie. I was expecting it to be a little sadder than it was.

I still dont really get why people think tom cruise is hot. I've never really seen it. he's just this weird looking little man.

Disco Sucks!

So i never blogged about Julie and Ashley's birthday last weekend.

We went out to the NEW national harbor in maryland...oxen hill i believe. They have the new gaylord hotel which looks huge and beautiful, and around it little bars and restaurants are popping up.

The only problem is getting to or from. I dont know how hotel guests do it. It cost us 30 dollars to get there from Ashley's house in VA by the landmark mall area, and 25 bucks to get home to courthouse.

We went to bobby mckey's the piano bar...get it...get the name...see they took janis joplin's song and changed it...yeah i didnt think it was funny either.

Anyway, We had lots of fun. Luckily we brought our own crowd though b/c it wasnt the type of bar where you interact with the others because they were all so old.

The music was fun, although the pianists talked too much.

I'd go back but designate a driver to avoid the taxis :)

World baseball classic....

is lame. very lame.

First, didn't we just do this in the Olympics? Second, why do i even care. Third, its only been around for a few years so its still in the lame new stages for now.

That being said I've watched a few of the games, namely any game involving the US, and last night's Dominican Republic vs the Netherlands.

I was a little disappointed that all my DR faves weren't even playing. Also who would have ever guessed that the Netherlands would win in extra innings, kinda an exciting game after all. Glad to see no mascots got beaten though, gotta watch out for those Netherlands folks ;)

I watched the watchmen

and it was AWESOME.

Forget those negative reviews, clearly the reviewers hadn't read the novel and just didn't get what was going on. Also they said the acting was poor, but i thought everyone did a good job.

From the first scene you could tell that the sound track was going to be AWESOME, and it was. I've already bought it although i already had most of the songs anyway.

A couple of the scenes were adjusted or cut as any adaption does, and most of the time it wasn't even a big deal and the story still flowed well. Also i cant say I'm upset they skipped the pirate story, I didn't much care for that.

Also (and i wont spoil anything), as advertised the ending was changed majorly from the novel, but in my opinion it was for the better. I thought it was less ridiculous, and actually kinda smart.

Lastly, if you think i dont want to dress up like this silk spectre next halloween, you clearly dont know me that well.

Did any of you watch it? what did you think?

Two more chapters

So i'm a slow reader. Its nothing new, books take me months to read no matter how short. So it should be no surprise to you that I still have two chapters left of the watchmen before we can actually see the movie.

Today is opening day, but luckily peter thought it might be nicer to just wait till sat am and go to the uptown! This buys me one more night to finish the book which i think i can do! yay! Also i have it with me at work in case i have any free moments during the day.

sharing food

I think my least favorite "style" of food, is anything served "family style". This might be the source of my across the board tapas dislike. I also dread going to indian restaurants (although i LOVE the food).

At first I thought it was because I'm a vegetarian so I always end up getting the short end of the stick and not enough of the food i actually like and feel awkward about the bill etc.

That is not the case because I have super nice friends who always offer to get enough veggie dishes.

I dont know what the deal is, I just dont like to share, unless its pizza. Pizza is sharable.

I have no idea what the problem is, but i try and avoid these situations like the plague.

If i say "i'm just going to order this for myself", just let me do that. I"m weird and i'm awkward, i know this. Its not you, its me. I just want my own food. And what never helps, is AFTER i've picked out what i'm going to order you say "well i'm going to order something vegetarian so you can have some". Dont do this. You would prefer meat, and I am NOT going to have any of yours. end of story.

Sometimes its amazing how quirky and weird and not adaptable I am. So to all my friends, sorry!

Weekend

Friday night we went with the ladies to CoCo Sala. We had a 9pm reservation, and we even got there a little early, but they took at least 30 minutes to seat us. Diana worked her magic and got us a complimentary bottle of champagne while we were waiting, and then when we were finally seated a second bottle arrived at our table :) good times.

Sat peter and i found and bought a dining room table we actually like! that will be delivered in two weeks, cant wait.

Sunday we flew really early to boston to surprise my mom for her 60th birthday. We had a nice day and a great dinner at l'espalier in the new mandarin oriental hotel. There was nothing vegetarian on the menu as usual, but as any good restaurant does, they told me that I could have anything I wanted and the chef would make it. This was way too much freedom for me so I said "i dont like mushrooms, asparagus, and risoto, create anything he wants". The meal came back with Israeli couscous some veggies, and falafel! for those of you that dont know, falafel is my favorite.

Sunday morning we woke up at 6am to attempt to fly back to dc. All the flights were canceled EXCEPT ours. The only problem was there was no way to get to the airport! We called usair and was on hold for THREE hours and watched our plane take off. We decided to just go to the airport, and they put us on a noon flight (which got delayed) and eventually we made it back to virginia! long long long day
