The Car Situation
So finally enough things were wrong with my car that I decided to take it in.
1. I needed an emissions inspection
2. The defrost function smells like gasoline when in use
3. The key doesnt come out without a lot of effort
4. There is a weird churning noise under the hood.
I brought the car in on friday and they immediately found out that the shifter pin was broken which made it hard to put in park which is why the key never came out. The timing belt and water pump needed to be replaced which was the cause for the noise. and lastly they didnt know what i was talking about with the gas smell.
They were nice enough to lend me a Mazda 3 which I actually like more than my car at this point.
Supposidly i'll get my car back today though fingers crossed!

Marathon Movie Weekend
well it was only two, but thats still a lot.
Peter wanted to see all the best picture nominees or as many as possible before they went out of the theater. We had already seen Milk, and I had seen slumdog millionaire (both GREAT, and personally I think slumdog is gonna win)
Sat we went to see Frost/Nixon. It was a pretty good movie, well acted and well written. I did not however, think that it deserved a best picture nod. The funny thing, was that when the movie was over I felt bad for Nixon. I know he did a lot of bad stuff, but as a person i still felt bad for him :(
Sunday We met up with tristan, mike, laura, and matt to see Rachel Getting Married (me and tristan), and the rest went to see slumdog millionaire. Rachel Getting Married was....AWESOME. no, i dont just like it b/c of the title, thats not really what it was about anyway. Anne hathaway was so good! i've never seen her in a role like this before! And the movie itself was so emotional and all the characters and story was well built. I was crying from like the second scene on. I'd go see that movie again and maybe even buy it.

Weekend Fun
As you may have noticed I wasn't in work on Friday....more on that later.
We saw A LOT of movies this weekend....also more on that later.
The exciting part of the weekend was sat night, Tristan and Mike's Engagement Party. I think Laura, Charlotte, Will, and Katie already posted pictures on facebook if you want to see.
First we went to la loma for dinner which was fun because we had the whole upstairs reserved. I think like 40 people showed up! Good Sangria too. Then we decided to move on to a bar so we could walk around and talk with more than just the people around you. We headed to Union Pub...Closed due to building maintenance. We then tried 201 lounge...in the same building. Was anyone surprised it was closed? not really. Then we changed plans and just headed to Irish Times. I dont think I've ever seen Levi more content than to just sit in Irish Times with his Guiness.
My favorite quote in irish times was will to the Miller Girls "hey, this is my main squeeze Jessica.......(big pause)....and her husband Robbie".
then will told the miller girls that mike had just popped the question, but tristan was nowhere to be found, so the girls just looked at me happily as if i was the one engaged to mike (being the only girl next to him), and then a few seconds later that old dude thats been playing there since the 90's sang a song for mike and tristan...again tristan was MIA, so i was the stand in.
We then headed over to the dubliner for a little more space. I was going to buy mike and tristan a shot....but turns out they didnt need any more....I'd say thats the mark of a sucessful engagement party! Also, Fun was had by all!

Inauguration Part II The Ball
To quote one of my favorite TV shows (arrested development)...Those are Balls.
After making it home to our apt we took a quick nap got food, and changed into our formal attire.
Again it was super hard getting INTO the city. No taxi was available so we decided to have peter's parents drive us. All the bridges were planned to open at 5pm, and it was now 7:30. Should be easy right? wrong again. only the 395 bridge had re opened.
Luckily we still made it on time, and got in just fine to go to the Western Ball
It was strange to see the convention center all done up for a formal event since I'm use to seeing the Car show there. Miraculously we ran into most of our friends right away since cell phone service was again down.
After some dancing, drinking, eating, and photography we were directed to the far stage to see Marc Anthony. He was pretty good, but not my type of music. We decided to wander around when we heard "now, I'd like to do something impromptu" yeah right. I perk up and run back to the stage to see him introduce his wife Jennifer Lopez to sing with him. It was awesome.
We were then told that President Obama (i like saying that) would not arrive till 12:30/1...now remember, we had woken up at 5:30am and this did not sound like a good plan.
we then heard over the loudspeaker "ladies and gentlemen, please turn off your cell phones and return to the stage for the next part of the program"....it turned out to be Joe and Jill Biden which was still cool, but we still had plenty of time to wait for Mr President himself.
At that moment One of the guys in our group's Girlfriend came over who had been working at the ball for months organizing things and she came with a friend bearing gifts...VIP section tickets.
AWESOME. so we took the tickets, entered the section and found a spot in the front right near nancy pelosi. As if that werent lucky enough, Mr. President and his beautiful wife showed up at 11:45! Awesome! He came out, said a few words that seemed totally un planned and casual and comfortable, and then said "if you dont mind, i'd like to dance with the woman who has been with me and supported me, and done everything i've done, except in heels". And they danced and it was cute.
Then everyone made a mass exodus to the door and the night was over. Great day, great night, hopefully great next 4 years.

Inauguration Part I The swearing in
We woke up at 5:45 and were ready to hop on the metro to foggy bottom or farther if possible, and walk the remaining way, be in line, get in, have a great day, end of story. Easy enough right?
WRONG.
We got down to the metro and watched two fully packed metros pass by before hearing "attention orange line customers, we are experiencing delays at virginia square". Great. So we decided our best bet was to WALK all the way. Luckily i spotted an empty taxi right away and got a ride over the bridge, and only had to walk from the lincoln memorial onwards.
We made it to the "blue section" line, but were nearly the last in line, when we heard "bluuuuuuuuuuuue people?!?!" Yes? you have our attention. "Please go this way" points around building to practically the front of the line. We ran. An hour and a half later we were through security and waiting for history. We were so close, it was great.
Smooth sailing from here, except for the fact that we lost peter's dad.
Getting home was Just as awesome, but we had more time to do it. We stopped in peter's office for a while and chatted with the congressman till we thought the crowds had died down, and walked to the metro. Passed Capitol South, and Eastern Market due to huge crowds around both and settled on potomac. We finally made it home at 4pm
Next post will be about the official inaugural ball!

Randomness
Well last night was interesting.
I had all sorts of hopes and dreams to cook a first meal in the new place, so we went to whole foods and got the ingredients, chopped, and then i went to turn on the stove.....nothing
I called the front desk and they had forgotten to turn on my gas and they'd fix it by morning, but until then they gave me a 25 dollar gift card so that I could get some food. Not too bad.
Then while waiting for food I decided to take some change out of my purse since peter and I are collecting all our coins to save up for a fancy dinner at citronelle. I turned my purse upside down and out came $37.60 in change including a dollar fifty in pennies!!! My purse is amazingly light today so I'm glad I did that, plus that and peter's already collected change puts us about half way to our meal!

Disconcerting Morning
This morning I got to work and was forced to wait for the new firefox to install. I've been using it for maybe 5 minutes and already I hate it so much.
I hate how when you type your address into the address bar it starts guessing at random things that it could be instead of common things you've typed in the past.
One example
I typed "e" for evite. usually that comes up right away as one of my first two options, instead this morning i had to type in the whole word evite before it was even an option. Surprisingly dcist came up first b/c its taged as "events" in the page discription, and firefox thought i might have been discribing what page I wanted to go to. WTF. People dont say "oh, i'd like a page thats mostly blue in color, talks about puppies, and uses pop ups". If i wanted to do that i'd use google!
Go away new firefox!

Another great weekend
The move went pretty smoothly for anyone that is interested. I love all the new space.
Then Emily came to town which was a lot of fun. When emily was here we stumbled upon a "as seen on tv" store. Clearly we had to go in and check out two products.
1. the snuggie (a blanket with sleves) this one was very disappointingly when we oppened the box to touch it and see the quality. We left this one in the store.
2. a Shamwow because Emily is obsessed with the commercial and she wanted to see if it made her say wow every time. It did NOT. I poured some water on the floor and it got a little of it up, then started just spreading the water and even leaving some of the soaked up water back on the floor! then we tried squeezing the contents of the shamwow back into the container like they do in the infomercial and all the water now smelled like pee and was tinted orange from the dye in the cloth! wtf. So a warning to all, stay away from the shamwow's, you are better off with bounty.

Sports Center Rocks
I love the new celtics sports center commmercial with the boston 3 party, and that prompted me to try and find the old wally commercial where he's typing on the teleprompter. I couldnt find it, but this one made me laugh outloud too. I just love the look on wally's face when he sees big papi in a yankee's hat and just drops all his stuff! its great
Mario Kart
Previously I did not like mario kart. I had played it with a few different nintendo versions and could not steer the car correctly, and could not stay on the road. That is until I tried it on the Wii. Its so much fun now!
So far I've only played the easiest level, but finished every cup in first place and un locked a bunch of extra cups. So thats pretty awesome. I have one more cup to win before I move on to the next level.
The wii mario kart connects to other machines, so if you have mario kart let me know and we can play eachother!

Crafts store?
Last night I wanted to go to the crafts store, and peter decided to tag along. Half way there he said "you know, most people don't think of crafts stores being the ultimate girly store, but it is, there is literally nothing in the store that I will remotely find interesting"
He was wrong
1. he found styrofoam balls etc that when positioned together looked dirty which amused him
2. there is a model airplane section we briefly stopped in (but actually wasnt that interesting).
lesson learned, crafts stores can amuse anyone, but maybe its easier to go alone.

Back at work
Boston was a lot of fun. We saw a ton of high school friends and other friends from the area.
New Years eve was great, first we met up with some winsors for a delish dinner at EVOO over by harvard square, then we hopped on the T (like real locals) and went to 6B lounge up on beacon hill. It was the coldest day imaginable, and after snowing over a foot was just windy and cold by night. Wearing a dress was not ideal, but i toughed it out for a great new years eve.
The next highlight of the trip was meeting up with Ashley and Tim to go to the sam adams brewery. I dont know why i'd never been before. its lots of fun. We got to taste the different flavors of barley and then there was actually beer in all the vats unlike most of the tours you go on. Then we got to taste 3 different types of beer. Normal Lager, Winter brew, and then a special not sold in stores experimental flavor. They all tasted a zillion and three times more delish than the already delish bottled taste.
